2024 - Way too early draft thread

Steelers just forced a huge turnover, and the Chiefs with an explosive play down into the Redzone. Chargers with a painful fumble at the start of the 4th quarter
 
Denver is STUFFED on 3rd and goal!


Jarret Stidham in at QB btw... intersting....
 
Steelers win, Chiefs up by 5 in the 4th, Chargers falling apart
 
Steelers and Chiefs win, that strengthens the SOS for the Pats without effecting us at all
 
With all games for the week final except for Minnesota & Green Bay, SOS is now Washington .515, NE .518
 
We are on a 7 game losing streak. Jesus.
 
And the NFC East title on the line in our last game.
 
Whether we pick a quarterback at the top of the draft or not (at #2 I am more inclined to do so than at #5 or #6 where we were a few weeks ago), the offensive line needs a redo. Here are the PFF scores for our heroes this season:

Sam Cosmi - 81.5
Charles Leno Jr. - 72.5
Andrew Wylie - 69.2
Nick Gates - 63.6
Saahdiq Charles - 55.8
Chris Paul - 38.8


So, based on these reviews we have ONE solid starter grading out at RG in Cosmi, ONE borderline starter/top backup in LT Charles Leno Jr. and a group of other players that grade out to be clear NFL backups or in the cases of Charles and Paul, practice squad candidates.
 
Yeah, I've probably flipped on my draft wants assuming we get number 2. I'm still all in for fixing the o-line, but if we get number 2 and there are two elite-potential QB prospects in the draft then you have to take one. I do think Howell has shown enough in his "rookie" season to show he can become a good NFL QB, but we know the other side of the story, too. Not knowing much, my preference is probably Maye. Williams gives off that diva vibe and I don't want another RGIII or Chase Young who think they've made it before their very first snap.

If we do go QB with number one, I'd really love it if we could grab two highly rated o linemen in the second round. We have the skill position players on offense covered (minus tight end), but skill players are useless if no one's opening a hole for them or the QB is running for his life/on his back.
 
I agree, I have Williams third on my list of quarterbacks in the top 10 for exactly the diva and 'family' involvement/business/brand issues we had with Dwayne Haskins. Also, Williams by several scouts evaluations has operated in a scheme LEAST like that of a pro offense of the top prospects. THAT is always a cautionary note.

3. Caleb Williams
 
I agree that if we hold onto the 2nd pick, that's a game changer. Assuming Caleb Williams doesn't drop and is the first QB picked, Maye could be a star. There's really not a glaring weakness.
 
Tepper is likely to take Williams because of all the hype. The wildcard would be if a new regime thinks they can get Young looking like the guy they thought they were drafting. Someone will give up a ton of draft capital to move up to the first pick and I think that would put a lot more doubt into who is going to be drafted first.
 
Cleveland and Washington have blown more high picks on quarterbacks over the past 20 plus years than just about any other teams. Perhaps the Jets are as bad.

That's one of the biggest reasons this team has been such a mess.

I hate it when some WFAN or other media type talks about Caleb Williams being from the DC area.

Who in the hell cares?

Tom Brady was from California. Didn't seem to hurt him in New England.
 
Yeah, Boone but with the #2 pick in hand IF Washington wanted to move up to take Maye #1 we would have the best package to offer since we are talking about one slot.
