2024 - Way too early draft thread

We’re so far out it’s impossible to predict what might happen.
 
Well, one thing's for sure with the trendline of this team from 2-0 to where we are now, we ARE the second worst team in the league.

The Bears own Carolina’s pick at #1. The real question is- Has Justin Fields shown the Chicago brass enough in his run down the stretch to keep him and trade the pick, select MHJ or one of the top 2 tackles? That will be significant to watch.

Question - is the SOS tie-breaker the SOS of the team currently owning the pick (in this case, the Bears) or the SOS of the original pick owner?

I know it doesn't matter this time around as it won't get to the tie-breaker. It appears it's the SOS of the original pick owner which seems weird to me, but...

So, with New England playing the Bills, and the Cardinals playing the Eagles, and Washington finishing with Dallas, what happens if the Pats, Cards, and Commanders all lose next weekend? Is that even predictable?
 
Arizona plays Seattle but they have a significantly higher SOS at this point, .562 to .515, so any result is probably moot for their position.

Washington & New England‘s SOS can still be pesky.

I can't lie - I'm having a really hard time getting excited about the draft pick.
 
Don't you think that's just residual cynicism though? The #2 draft pick in the hands of a competent GM could be a game changer.
 
No argument - I'm totally cynical when it comes to picking in the Top 3 of the draft.

And you said the magic words - competent GM. Maybe I'll be excited when the new front office takes shape and we can get an idea of what kind of people are being entrusted with rebuilding our proud franchise.

Until then though...? Not feeling it.

Yeah...I've been hurt and we all know who did it.

It's all about getting it right. I don't think it's really any more complicated than that.

Plenty of opportunities to get it right.
 
You have to be excited for getting the #2 or #3 pick after all of this losing.

Dan Snyder ruined this franchise largely by meddling with the team's #1 picks in just this type of situation. From the rush to draft LaVar Arrington in 2000 and all the politics about convincing Cleveland not to take him from Arrington's camp, to the drafting of Griffin at #2 after giving up a generation of draft choices for a guy that was calling plays off his sweatband for 3 years, and finally Dwayne Haskins whose own color-coded offensive system with one audible at Ohio State, had other teams asking if he had the makeup to be an NFL starter. Of course Dan got off his yacht and ordered the pick and then returned self-satisfied that he had found the next John Elway :flush:

Without his influence to poison the well I think a strong GM can make use of those 5 picks in the first 100 to lay the foundation for a much better team in 2024 and beyond.
 
What is interesting is it feels like none of the monster trade ups for a QB have worked out. RGIII was obviously a disaster. Carson Wentz didn't work out. Trey Lance might have been the worst of all.

Maybe the moral is... don't sell the farm for a QB draft pick.
