I think that’s just based on the results, like us losing drops NE strength because the winning percentage of opponents goes down

But would’t the reverse also be true though? Losing to better teams raising a teams SOS?

opponents winning effects it regardless of the quality of opponent.

It's a compilation of the total winning % of all the opponents on the schedule. The totality of the 289 games that are part of the schedule (17 teams playing 17 games each).

not sure why mine is apparently off by .002 but here's the table

If we lose out, and New England loses out, we both effect each other's SOS the same, because we played each other.

We need ALL of New England's 'not-like' opponents to win to raise their SOS from Opponents we didnt play, and we need all of our opponents that DIDN'T play NE to LOSE, to drop our SOS while not dropping theirs as well.

Updated SOS with the NYJ loss last night. Washington adjusted down from .520 to .516, NE from .522 to .518

I think it’s going to come down to if the Pats beat the Jests. On paper, it seems like playing the Niners and cowboys will up the SOS more than the Bills and Jests. So we need to root for a Zappe miracle in Week 18.

If the Jets beat the Patriots, it works in our favor, it only effects our SOS for the equivalent of 1 game... it effects theirs by 2.

The effect of playing them is already accounted for, as it's the entirety of the season.

We already played both the Bills and the Jets, so their 'wins' over the Pats will lift our SOS with an effect of 1 game each, NE on the other hand, it will count double since they play them twice on the schedule.

In addition, NE has Dallas on their Schedule, so while them beating us lifts their SOS by 1 game, it lifts ours by 2.

The best scenario is that Washington loses the final 2 games and that Belichick finds a way to beat the NYJ in his (probably) final game as the NE head coach. Win win.

It’s a tall order, but I am still hoping for the Cards beating the Seahawks in week 18. Assuming RR doesn’t screw up the tank….

The Cards SOS is much better - so if both the Pats and Cards win week 18 - the Commanders will own the 2nd pick and that will maximize their options.

Since we are 4-11 and going nowhere I think it is at the point where we need to get the highest pick.

Brissett has played better than Howell in his spots in recent weeks, but winning one of the last two games with him at quarterback - assuming that .001% chance comes true - is bad for this team's long-run future prospects.

With the offensive line injuries and the one to Brian Robinson as well as the DB debacle of injuries and poor performances, it's hard to believe this team is going to be within 14 points of either SF or Dallas in those contests.

Yep. What’s the difference between Washington and say Cleveland?

Cleveland drafted Myles Garrett and he helped galvanize the team in what was becoming a lost season for them with all the injuries.

We drafted Chase Young and he ended up being an immature, selfish player who was only out to pad his stats and get paid.

Since 1999 under Snyder we seem to lead the league in drafting and signing these type of front running ball players who think they are stars before they play a down.

It used to be Dallas.

Now they draft pro bowlers like Parsons and Lamb.
