2024 Roster Updates

Yep, that’s why he should have been a later pick.

We took him too early and now you look around and we are bringing in cuts and waiver guys to make the difference for us.

After 13 games these guys aren’t really rookies anymore.

Easy to say, but if they had him rated there based on his talent, other teams may have as well. Bottom line, judging draft picks by year one performance is a risky business.

Do we know where he ranked on the consensus boards? They tend to be fairly accurate giving a middle point as to where teams rank players. Conn, you mentioned that before, right? Or I I thinking of somebody else.

Regardless, I don’t think we picked McCaffery outside of the zone he was expected to go.

Not familiar with 'consensus' boards...

Luke according to advanced stats is open a lot but since he is the 3rd or 4th option he rarely gets passes to him

So much for Quinn and Kingsbury turning to McCaffrey to help make up for the loss of Brown.

I just don’t like what we are seeing out of Luke and how the team uses him in mop up time against the Titans when we are already ahead by 18 points.

We never see this guy impact the games when they are competitive.

Don’t really agree with this, his opportunities have been limited but he’s made multiple clutch 3rd and 4th down receptions when we needed them, and he’s gone down at the 1 yard line with a near-TD at least once, maybe twice—all during our original winning streak, so it’s easy to forget now. But he’s not only getting chances in garbage time, that’s just what it’s been recently.

The tough reality is that veteran JAG’s who have played a ton of snaps in this league just know where they need to be and when and coaches and QB’s like that when installing and iterating upon a new offense in year 1. McCaffrey’s time will come imo.

Luke did great on EA's sports play of the Commander's/Saints game-that is dispositive- he will be an all pro

not me, but I talked fairly often about how every FO under Snyder could have built a better roster by simply drafting from a consensus draft board :doh1:

I think they would have done better by throwing a dart at the draft board

Or by watching our Blind Pig draft pods. We have nailed a number of guys currently thriving in the NFL who were available. But Ron...

I think part of the McCaffrey pick was that Adams felt he had more insider info on him. He knows him through his brother obviously, but the younger brother also came by San Francisco a number of times so he got to see his work ethic and character up close. I think this biased him towards the pick, but I would imagine ultimately that will work in our favor.

At least I hope so.

One thing I would like to see is McCaffrey use his arm on a trick play to catch the Saints napping on defense.

You know McVay or Shanahan would use it.

If only it was the Jonathan Allen of 2018 or 2019 that was returning.

We will be saving $11 million in 2025 either with Jon traded (hopefully) or him being released.

I think if they have plans to keep him for another 1-2 years, the last thing you do is trot him out there at the end of this season. Pec injuries are prone to reoccur if not given sufficient time to heal, and sometimes even then, they can reoccur. Brian Orakpo tore his pectoral muscle 3 times in a 4 year period with Washington during the 2011 to 2014 stretch.

Coach Quinn has been very consistent with both his words and his actions in not letting players back on the field until they're ready no matter how badly they want to play and I'd be surprised if Allen was ready at any point this year.

Couple that with the fact his play was inconsistent before the injury and 2 1/2 months off isn't going to help that in anyway meaning he could end up being subtraction by addition.

And lastly, I don't know how Allen's contract is worded but there may be a chance that we owe him something if he can't pass a physical and since it's almost certain we are either lowering his salary or releasing him this offseason I doubt the front office would want to risk that possibility if it is one.

I'd be surprised myself if we saw Allen in a Washington uniform again but I'd like nothing more than to see it happen and have him contribute to a playoff run.

Didn’t we try that once already this year and it was completely blown up? I know we tried one, the throw was supposed to go back to Daniel’s and it got snuffed out. I thought it was Luke throwing it but maybe it was somebody else.

Regarding Allen, if he’s able to come back that’s great. Even if he’s not as dominant as he was several years ago he’s still very good and could be a nice addition to the rotation.

I doubt we extend him. In order to extend him we would have to give him more guaranteed money and I doubt that happens.

I don’t know how likely a trade is because of his contract situation.

My guess is he’s released and just finds a new team. Unless he REALLY wants to be here, in which case it would be some type of a team friendly, short extension converting some money to guarantees but not adding a huge amount of new money. But I see that as unlikely.

Regardless, he carries a $21m cap hit for next year with a large cap benefit to trading or reading him, so something will happen, either a trade, release or restructure.
