2024 Roster Updates

Finally we are getting some capable veteran depth at linebacker.

Last year you had guys like David Mayo and Cody Barton who were known more for their special teams play than play on the regular defense.

Watching them on defense was painful.
 
Another of Ron's guys bites the dust. Of course he was only brought in because the previous guy, Cameron Cheeseman, was a bust.

Typical Rivera waltz - one step forward, and two steps back :rolleyes:
 
Addington was fine at the end of the season.

I think this release is more due to Izzo bringing in a guy at LS that he has worked with for a number of years.
 
Yeah, I get that. The new guy is 32.

The image I have in my mind is of a Washington team 3 years from now when the only Ron holdover is Sam Cosmi :LOL:

I don't think it will be quite that scorched earth but I don't think you are far wrong either.

I figure in 3 years we will still have Cosmi and Payne.

I think McLaurin and Allen are possible but both will be 30 at that point and unless they have proven indispensable this front office may not want to pay what the players want to stay here.

Dotson and Robinson are also possible if Dotson rediscovers his form and Robinson isn't looking to personally reset the RB market when his rookie deal runs out.

Davis is an outside contender if Quinn/Whitt can find the right role for his athleticism and get his head screwed on straight. But I think it's a long shot.

So what is that - 7 guys who MIGHT be left from the Rivera years?
 
In 3 years the team will (hopefully) be on the doorstep (but not quite knocking yet) of paying real money to a franchise QB, either through the use of the 5th year option or negotiating an extension. Something they haven’t had to contend with for quite some time and that will change the calculus for other player’s contracts.

The sad thing...

McClaurin / Allen / Payne / Way aren't really Rivera guys, they pre-dated him.
 
Why is it that losing team always seem to have the best punters?

I remember Dave Jennings leading the league for years when the Giants were 3-13 or 2-14.

It sucks a little bit, because I liked Toney, but the suspension opened up a whole lotta room to fill the gaps.
 
Sports is crazy. Leonsis puts a sports book in the CapOne arena and the teams wear a Caesar’s Sportsbook patch on their uniforms but as human nature goes players are supposed to stay away from gambling 🤣🤣
 
How is it any different than a beer sponsor on a race car? Are they tempted to drink while driving on the race track? No, they understand there is a time and a place, and limitations on what / when they can do with it.

There are alcohol sponsors all over every professional sport, but the ones who do drink and drive face penalties...
 
Just amused at human nature. Politicians ostensibly looking to find dollars for programs they have promised working class people are leaning on 'sin' tools like the lottery and sports gambling for tax revenue that overwhelmingly takes money from the same people.
 
That could be or Jamin Davis finally balls out and shows that he was worth the #19 overall pick and the Commanders pay him.

No one, from Davis to his agent could realistically expect Washington to make that kind of commitment based upon what the player has done on the field to date.

Last year he was just starting to show the recognition skills you expect a top prospect/player to have at the position.

And the off the field stuff doesn't help his cause either.

Ron evidently didn't do much research into the intangibles with draft picks because he took Chase Young and Jamin Davis high almost exclusively on measurables and athletic talent but wasn't able to determine that both players lacked maturity and over time that can be as detrimental to development as injuries.

He went undrafted in the 2023 draft and didnt play on a roster at all last year.
