2023 Washington Roster Moves

Fans crack me up. They scream bloody murder for a decade that the front office ownership doesn't know what it's doing. And the first time they approach teambuilding differently than all of the previous idiots, you're going to scream bloody murder about that too :rotflmao:

This was needed, mediocrity eventually has to be disregarded for a rebuild, something the team has refused to do believing "we're close" only to resemble the same inconsistent lackluster 7 win potential team again and again. Now show Ron the door and this really is a Happy Halloween!!
 
Sometimes talent isn't enough. Jeff George, Ryan Leaf, and Todd Marinovich had all the talent of any of the greatest to ever play the game. All were found to be flawed and wanting.

Chase Young has all the physical tools necessary to be the one guy on the field that opposing QBs and OCs have to account for on every play. He has never shown the ability to use that talent to make that happen.

If it was anything worth considering I would think Brissett would be gone.

It seems clear that Josh Harris and Co. were calling the shots today.

Certainly wasn't the Greatest Generation. Maybe the Slacker Generation?
 
The implication of the Standig quote to me is that Chase Young was not well liked by the staff and was viewed as a player solely interested in his own stats and pub and didn't really give a rat's **** about playing the scheme or working with his teammates.

I don't know that for a fact, but when you hear the 'addition by subtraction' quote on players it's usually a work ethic/attitude issue rather than a physical issue at the heart of the matter.
 
I’ve thought most of you were too hard on Young this year. Singling him out doing what others did too. But any fan saying he is a generational talent hasn’t watched a single down of football the last 3 seasons. Young hasn’t been that guy. It sucks he wasn’t, but he’s not and that’s the reality. I was hoping he would play great and they trade him for a haul. Instead he played just well enough to get a late 3rd rounder. And I’m happy they got that much for him.
 
You can't tell me that even a beaten down and out of his league Jack Del Rio didn't notice Young jogging through half the plays out there. On top of that, the no shows for player non-mandatories, his general diva vibe, etc... and just wanted to be done with it.

In terms of Brissett, why would a team offer more than a 6th or 7th for him? He's a backup - on the Commanders - for a reason. Decent player, but decent backup QBs are a dime a dozen. Look what the Vikings gave for Josh Dobbs - the Cardinals practically gave him away.

The fact that the most the team could get for the former consensus 'best football player in the draft' was a mid-rounder screams loudly what his NFL reputation is. I hope that stings like hell for him. I sort of wish it was Sweat going to the 49ers and Young to Chicago though. Sweat deserves a chance to be on a great team. Young, not so much.

I've definitely been brutally hard on Young - I readily acknowledge. Probably my USMC response because not giving 1000% effort and being more about yourself than the team are unforgiveable sins in that world. Maybe he'll be a huge success in SF. I just saw no scenario where it was going to happen here for him.

The 49ers are in all likelihood renting Young. Their cap situation isn't great for next year in terms of adding a $24-25M player and my guess is John Lynch has questions about Chase Young as a player, just as other teams did during the trade deadline.

For them it's a reasonable gamble for a late #3 pick to try and get a boost for 2023.

I think for Washington and Harris part of the hesitation with Young all along was not his motivation to play well in 2023 and put up numbers to get his contract, it's what he was going to do AFTER that.

Is he going to remain motivated? Is he going to improve his game or continue to depend upon his physical skill alone? Is he going to stay healthy?

When you don't know the answers to these questions or have a good idea going into a negotiation then the smart thing is to part ways.

As it turns out Young wasn't the best player in the draft.

Burrow and Justin Herbert are better players. So are Justin Jefferson and CeeDee Lamb.

What blows me away about that game - he knows there are major trade rumors swirling. You’d expect him to come out and show he’s a core player and indispensable.
