2021 Roster Updates

Buffalo has a number of former Washington players on its roster but what I noticed in the playoff games last year was that most were backups or specialists.

After signing with the Bills Ty Nsekhe this past year was the swing tackle. A very similar role to what he did here but for a lot less money.

Trent Murphy in their scheme is more of a specialist like Chris Long was in New England. Again, Buffalo gave him a lot of money at the time to sign him.

So, I think while Buffalo has done an excellent job in building a contending roster largely through the draft and smart trades for players like Stefon Diggs, you can't really say they got rich off of Washington's castoffs.

The Bills went 13-3 and to the AFC Championship game.

I think they did just fine.

That's my point. They have a quality organization.

But my other point is for where Washington was at the time giving Nsekhe or Murphy a contract for bigger dollars didn't really make that much sense.

Ty was 32 years old and Murphy had a 9 sack season and then got hurt. Paying a guy a big price jump just when he is coming off IR is questionable - depending upon the player.

So, this rumor is spreading like wild fire. I am not a fan of it at all. I dont want to mortgage the future for an older vet who may or may not be back for his 18th year!

Packers get: 2022 first-round pick, 2022 second-round pick, 2023 first-round pick, 2023 second-round pick, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and DT Matt Ioannidis.

From the linked piece on Cowboy "FanNation" ...

*We're also not sure why Green Bay wants to take on Fitzpatrick when part of the reason for this issue is the Packers presence of young QB Bryce Love.

Based on everything we think we know about this latest Washington reboot, and everything we have seen to date, this is all clickbait in its purest form.

I agree, but I've seen no less than 3 articles on it so far. Four high picks, a good QB, and a good pas rusher is not ideal for anyone. That's borderline Ricky Williams deal or RG3.

First of all, if we know anything it’s that having Aaron Rodgers under center does not guarantee SB appearances or wins. And even if getting him meant those things, is that really how we want to get there, by buying our way in? I want this team to be good - for a long time. This is a recipe for a brief run and disaster later. Not only would we give up a ton to get him but his salary would make it very tough to pay our young core stars and keep this roster together.

I understand Rodgers talent. But honestly, I’ve never liked the guy. He’s an arrogant guy who thinks his coaches and the FO need to listen to him, not the reverse. It’s all about him and I don’t see that playing out well with an old school Ron Rivera.

And what makes anyone think Rodgers would have any real interest in coming to DC in the first place - because he ‘wants to win’? Personally, I have never gotten the sense that was his top priority.

I think most fans are calling a deal for Rodgers a ‘no brainer’ based on push back I am getting on Twitter because I don’t think it’s a great idea. I hate that term... ‘no brainer’ because there are always pros and cons to any potential decision.

Rodgers is a fantastic QB. He’s a sure fire hall of famer. He’s also a prick, a diva, and a head case. Would he improve the QB position here? Absolutely. Is the price tag being floated worth it? Not at all. You don’t even know if he’s play this year. Plus how much longer after that. And he may try to force his way out again after this year even if he played. Then you are stuck without all those picks and you are back to the drama era.

If the cost was cheap, I’d say go for it. But anything more than 1 first is too much for his situation. His talent does command more than that, but his attitude and his age and contract don’t. So I’d pass unless they were basically giving him away.

Well, I don't think you can say that Rodgers isn't going to take a team to the Super Bowl.

I think Green Bay had a decent shot to be there last year if the coach hadn't chickened out and let things ride in the red zone against Tampa.

And who takes a quarterback in Round 1 when you just come off a 13-3 season in 2019 and lose in the NFC title game because you don't have enough at the other skill positions? Another brain fart.

If you are going to anger the ever egotistical Aaron Rodgers and grease his way out of town you REALLY need to do better than Jordan Love :p

Who in the hell thinks Love is some great quarterback in the making? He's certainly no blue chipper.

All that said, Washington is being brought up in these rumors because we are perhaps the only team that went to the playoffs in 2020 and got better in the offseason who does NOT either have an established in-his-prime starting quarterback or just drafted a highly rated QB in 2020 or 2021.

Well - this is interesting....

Cut by the Bears after they drafted Teven Jenkins. 6’3” 305 lbs. Salary cap cut saving them $9 million. 93 consecutive starts. Played almost every OL spot in college. Former 7th round draft choice. This would be a solid depth signing.

Another player visit for Monday

I don’t get how Leno rated #32 overall at LT and #23 in pass blocking would be an upgrade on Lucas who was rated #23 and #14 in pass blocking in 2020.

If it’s a net add for depth that’s another story but he doesn’t appear to be a guy that you would put out there as the immediate starter.

SB Nation’s comment was Lucas was a journeyman but he played well here, which is really what I care about.

He’d be a depth signing, almost guarantee it.

They must have a lot of faith in Reyes and Bates.
