Jared Dubin of CBS released his rankings of the top-10 NFL defenses and the Browns came in at No. 3 just behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who were second and Washington Football Team who was the No. 1 defense.

They just can't keep the cowbums out of their mouths.

I hate em too but they got a possible stud in Parsons. I don't think he's in the running for DPOY because i don't think there is enough around him to let him flourish yet though. They drafted a bunch of players but they're all rookies...

Davis however is walking into about as good of a situation as a young player can hope for... He's not the savior, he's the potential missing piece.

It is going to be very hard for Davis to get the attention necessary with the group he is joining. Not so for Parsons.

Chase Young was the consensus best player in the entire draft. Lots of analysts had Davis only the 3rd best LB (or worse) in the draft. I think they are wrong, but pedigree (where a guy was selected) always plays a part in these kinds of things. In fact, I saw a study that showed where guys are drafted impacts their pay levels for the duration of their career, even if they far out-perform their draft status.

I think Washington fans have, for years, felt our players were disrespected when it comes to awards and recognition, but we are seeing now that when you win and have better talent, you get plenty of recognition.

He was only ROTY because of who he was surrounded by.

What?

I guess my point is, Micah Parsons is a helluva player and we’d have been excited if he were drafted by Washington. If he ends up DROY it’ll be because he’s who draft experts said he was. I’m sure the ‘Dallas bias’ is a real thing, but I don’t think it’s going to elevate someone to ROY honors unless they had an unbelievable first season. I think you could make equally good cases for standing out on a weak team without stars and benefiting from a great supporting cast. Which one of either is more likely I have no idea.

An already talented defensive line benefited by the addition of Chase Young. He became a player that coordinators had to plan for. Montez Sweat probably benefited the most.

Or Young benefited from Sweat.

Either way, you put Young on a terrible D and he's not even in the conversation. Like kerrigan for years

I actually disagree. You could see plain as day last year how much this team missed talent at the LB so we could see him flash early and often.

You could see it, I could see it, we (fans) could see it.

National writers, many of whom already view the defense as top 3, will see it?

Doubtful, but I hope you’re right.

Chase Young joining the best DL in the league?

I suppose back in 1993 Reggie White was simply a guy joining one of the best defenses in the NFL in Green Bay?

Chase Young made EVERYONE look better and the team would not have made the playoffs without him.

Yes, there are guys who can rush the passer and hopefully can now stop the run inside, but what Chase Young did was create opportunities for turnovers at critical points of a number of games. That is a sign of a core, NFL prime-time player.

Guys like Brian Orakpo could post 4 sacks against the Raiders but he didn't do anything in key games against better teams.

Young showed up and made plays down the stretch including against SF when the team basically had no offense once Alex Smith went down.

No, Reggie White was already an established player in Philly.

How could he win rookie of the year if he had been in the league for several years by then?

Nice try.

What I am saying is in retrospect you can't say Chase Young was coming to a defense in 2020 that was already among the tops in the NFL.

It was only this past season that the defense as a whole started to live up to its potential with a top 5-7 rating.

And AFTER the 2021 season it would be foolish to maintain that its the teammates that made Chase Young win DROY and made his reputation in the NFL.

What we saw in Young was a player that could turn around the outcome of a game by himself with key plays at key times.

In the past we have had defenses in Washington under Gregg Williams and Greg Blache that statistically looked good but didn't produce the game-changing plays that we needed.

The latter type of defense helps keep a DC employed but the former helps a team win a championship.

You can't change the entire discussion and then decide you're right because you did that.

Doesn't work like that.

I dare you to post this on Twitter :)
I don't have Twitter or else I would. ;)

Sweat had arguably a better year than him but isn't a rookie.

Don't get me wrong, Young is badass. I wouldn't get rid of him at all. But, he got to shine brighter because of all the 1st round talent we have up there.
