2011 NBA Thread

Knicks basically gutted their team for one player.

An up tempo team with no depth = bad.

They'll get bounced early.

So Melo @ 3 and Amare @ 4..just who in the hell plays the 5 spot?

This definitely isn't enough to put them over the top. I imagine they are looking at this as a two year plan, where they hope to add another player next season, or after next season.

I love Billups, but he isn't getting any younger. So they will have a need at both guard and at center. And that's just the starters. Behind that, they are incredibly thin.

Edit: Actually Diesel, the more I think about it, the crazier this trade sounds. Who starts at the 5 spot, and who comes off the bench to give him rest?

They gave up a ton.

Thank God Amare's knees are in such good shape that he can stand playing the 46 minutes a game that he is going to have to now.

He'll be fine. Right? RIGHT?

I thought D'Antoni was petitioning to have defense removed from the game? Did he lose that already?

You guys want to see something funny?

Apparently, Dolan undermined his GM,Walsh(who I thought was doing a bangup job cleaning up a big mess) and Isiah Thomas was a big player in this deal.

The Knicks acquired Carmelo Anthony in a blockbuster trade on Monday, but the price was steeper than Donnie Walsh was hoping to pay.

New York's front office has been suffering from a power struggle, with Isiah Thomas consulting James Dolan and the franchise also recently hired Mark Warkentien who is a CAA client.

"This is all Dolan. All Isiah. All (Worldwide) Wes and Leon Rose," said an ally of Walsh.

If true, I think you can safely say the Knicks are going nowhere as Isiah is one of the worst executives in sports history.

Yeah. I actually miss Isaiah being around a little. When people used to mock me for being a fan of a Snyder-owned team, i could laugh it off and say, "hey,, at least we're not the Knicks with Isaiah!".

Deron Williams to the Nets? Huh.

Sources: Nets to get Deron Williams
By Marc Stein and Chad Ford
ESPN.com

Trying to rebound from the disappointment of their failed pursuit of Carmelo Anthony, the New Jersey Nets have agreed to a blockbuster trade with the Utah Jazz for Deron Williams, sources said on Wednesday.

The Nets will send Derrick Favors and Devin Harris to Utah for the All-Star point guard.
The deal, scheduled for completion later Wednesday after a trade call with the league office, would also involve the Golden State Warriors and bring multiple draft picks to Utah.

Just Tuesday night, the Dallas Mavericks were talking to the Nets about re-acquiring Harris, according to sources. The Mavericks had shown interest in the point guard in January and told the Nets the sides should talk again if New Jersey didn't ship him out in a Carmelo Anthony trade.

Sources said Dallas turned down a New Jersey proposal of Harris for Caron Butler, Mavs rookie Dominique Jones and a first-round pick.

Williams took some heat this month for the retirement of Jazz coach Jerry Sloan. The two had disagreed during halftime of a home loss to the Bulls on Feb. 9. Sloan retired the next day.

"Maybe arguing was the last straw, so there I am, guilty of that," Williams said at the time. "But I think anybody who believes I could force coach Sloan to resign is crazy. He's stronger than that and personally if I said that to him, he'd probably go tell me to go do something."

More critical to Williams situation is the fact that he can become a free agent after next season and hadn't made headway with the Jazz on a new deal. Utah could have faced the same kind of circus atmosphere that the Nuggets encountered with Anthony this season.

Williams was an All-Star the past two seasons. In his sixth year in the league, the 26-year-old is averaging a career-high 21.3 points and 9.7 assists per game.

That sends Murphy, another big, to Orlando.

I am kind of surprised that Deron would want to play in New Jersey. Good grab by the Nets though.

Williams cannot sign an extension like Anthony did. I wonder what NJ will do to keep him after next season. Go get Howard before the Lakers do?

Dwight despises cold weather. He's not going anywhere up north.

It's Orlando or LA--and that probably rides a lot on what happens in the playoffs this season.

Reports now are that Williams is very unhappy and very surprised with the trade:

Deron Unhappy With Trade To Nets
Feb 23, 2011 12:39 PM EST

Deron Williams was traded to the Nets on Wednesday, in a package that sent Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and two first round picks to Utah.

Williams is reportedly unhappy with the trade, according to reporting from the Salt Lake Tribune.

The trade came together very quickly and Williams was completely shocked to hear about it.

Wow. Watch him walk after just one season. That would be incredible. What a huge gamble on NJ's part.

aww, unhappy Derron? Pity. Next time don't get your HOF coach to quit, asswipe.

No kidding. I do NOT understand this move. I think Green can be a player, but they had such a size advantage in the East that is now negated. Not crazy about this...

If he can stay out of foul trouble, Perk can play good D against Gasoline, making Kobe's life difficult. OKC made a nice move today to help them in the playoffs.

And in other news......Doc "Ben Wallace will get more minutes when he proves himself" Rivers has just been named the MVP of the Orlando Magic.

We'll still beat you in a seven game series, if you make it that far. :)

Ainge isn't done yet and OKC has to wait to see if Perkins can get healthy...he just sprained the mcl in the other knee.
