Watching RGIII right now and he is being matched by Keith Price every step of the way!
 
Wower the wow. Washington and Baylor bringing the fireworks tonight. 60-56 Baylor with more than half of the 4th quarter remaining. Catch a breath if you can!!! Whew!
 
67-56. Crazy. Just crazy. Wow.

And to think that RG3 had a "bad" game at 24-33 for 295 yds. Heck, I'll take RG3's "bad" days over Rex's bad days anytime and on Sundays.
 
RGIII is very exciting, but once again he didn't impress me much last night BB. I am not sure he is going to be able to play like that against NFL DE's and LB's who are much faster. He was solid and he is very exciting, but he is going to take a beating in the NFL playing like he did last night.

Keith Price looked far better last night playing in the pocket and running for the extra yardage after he went through his progressions. RGIII just seemed to eager to take off. And while I have only watched RGIII in about 3 or 4 games this year, this is what I continually see from him. People say he is a lot like Vick, well if that is the case I sure don't want him. Michael Vick is no Champion.

Got a question for ya El.

In your opinion from watching RGIII does he seem to be more toward the "Vick/Young" end of the "mobile QB" scale or more toward the "Tebow/Newton" end or somewhere in the middle?
 
I have a question for you, serv - how are Tebow & Newton on the same end of the spectrum? One can throw, one cannot. One really, really, really cannot. :)
 
Lanky, I put Tebow and Newton at one end of the scale based on my personal impression of how much they have actually contributed to their team's ability to play competitive football using their available skills. I would maintain that Tebow has helped the Broncos far more than Vick has helped the Eagles-in a novel and unique way of course. Newton is simply freakishly good-I'll be very interested in what the Panthers do to bolter the team with FA and the draft. Depending on how smart they are Carolina could be a playoff team within trwo seasons.

My impression of RG3 is that he's potentially better than Vick, maybe not athletically but way ahead in football smarts-he's never going to match Newton in athletics on the field, Vick at his best couldn't do that, but his (RG3's) decision making might be better than Newtons-Cam is just so athletically gifted nobody's able to stop him yet.

Tebow is just unique enough in hs skills and playing style to be a loose-cannon, monkeywrench-thrown-in-the-works kind of player. The rest of the Denver Broncos haven't had a chance to get used to him yet. If the team can "synch-up" with the out-of-the-ordinary way he plays the QB position the Broncos could be a tough out just based on not playing like a "normal" team.
 
The football smarts was there last night. Early on, the Huskies used two spies on RG3 - both rotated and would cheat up to the line a bit. After a while, RG3 caught on to the fact that they were not going to alter that defense, so he called several audibles for Ganaway up the middle.

Watch a LB cheat forward on the left or right - it didn't matter after a while. A double team on the NT and spread the offense (three and four WR sets), then unleash Ganaway up the middle. Brilliant move by RG3 to rely on what was given to him by the UW defense and to diagnose it to perfection.

Did RG3 force anything last night? How many interceptions did he accumulate? The stats say "zero". 24-33 for 295 yds. I'll take that production with no interceptions every single time. I will gladly take the kind of leadership that shows poise, no panic, and take what the defense gives him. That's leadership. That's what the Redskins need.

But BB, I did not see the leadership you're talking about. I did not see the poise. The biggest problem I saw from him was his inability to stand in the pocket against a terrible Huskies defense and make accurate throws to his receivers. They were making diving catches or jumping to make the catches that left them little chance for YAC. The only yards after catch seemed to be from the screens he threw. He would leave the pocket early and run at the first hint of pressure and fling the ball off his back foot relying too much on his athletic ability. Oh and the adjustments, you sure that was his adjustment? You sure it wasn't the coaches. I just don't see championship caliber QB you guys seem to see. But I am not talent scout, so... I think this kid is extremely talented, but I would not choose him in the first round if I were the Redskins. He is a very admirable human being, but I think he is just another flashy QB.

While the NFL game is changing drastically, I still think you need a quality pocket QB to win Championships. If you want to fill seats and have excitement like you do with Vick (I hope that answers your question serv), then draft him. If you want Championships, chalk this year's 1st round QB pick as a loss unless you want to trade down and choose someone like Tannehill late in the first and finish building the offensive line or trade up for Luck.

Would you classify Vick, Young, Tebow, and Newton as "flashy" as opposed to a traditional pocket passer-a la Peyton, Brady, or perhaps including more mobile QBs like Rodgers and Brees? I'm thinking you might and that is your problem with RG3, that is his style is more similar to the Vick, Young, Tebow, Newton style. Am I inferring your perspective correctly? If not let me know where I might have missed something.

I don't know what to think about Tim Tebow. The kid is just a gamer and it's hard to say what he'll do. If I had to, I would say flashy player with a winner's instinct. If the Broncos were to surround the kid with a great RB and a couple of very good Wr's while they allow that defense to blossom under Fox, I could see him taking them far into the playoffs by sheer will. The kid just wins.

Cam Newton is a gamer as well and while I was a huge opponent of his while he was at Auburn with the character issues, he has performed admirably as a pro. Early on the owner of the Panthers told him no tattoos, or at least nothing on the neck I believe. Newton's answer was very mature when the media started to get out of hand with Richardson's request/demand. He said, "He's my boss and I am willing to do what my boss says since he's chosen me to be the face of the franchise." As for his play, he has done something this year no rookie has ever done. He has proven he can win on a big stage in College. I can't say he won't do it in the NFL. He has all the tools and has shown he can handle himself well in the media and on the field.

Young? Ha! He is a knuckle head! You could tell from his statements at the beginning of the year. He will never be anything more than an athlete in this league and that is wearing thin as he gets older. Backup material for the rest of his career unless a team is desperate enough to give him one more chance.

Vick? The most over rated QB in the history of the NFL!!! And this is what I see in RGIII. I think he is going to get beat up in the NFL playing the style of football he did against the Washington Huskies.

While RGIII is a much better character, he reminds me of Michael Vick the way he eludes the rush, throws the ball off balance, but has the arm strength to get the ball near enough to the receiver to make the completion. Given the time, he throws a beautiful pass! I just don't think RGIII is as athletic as Vick. He was not able to outrun LB's on a terrible Huskies defense the way Vick outruns players in the NFL. If RGIII depends too much on his athleticism, he won't be so good in the NFL because the LB's and DE's in the NFL are light years faster than the Big 12 or Washington Huskies. And from what I have seen, I don't think he is not a true pocket passer, like Vick he is too reliant on his athleticism.
 
And I think Keith Price was outstanding last night. He stood in the pocket and went through his progression. Once he followed through his progressions, he took advantage of hise athleticism and took off. But he was patient in the pocket. I only saw glimpses of the with RGIII last night and throughout the season.

UW decided to cheat two LBs (spies) on RG3. It's amazing that the Baylor QB had 295 passing yds while going 24-33 and zero INTs. You saw a QB who called an excellent game. He audibled the right plays that allowed three RBs to gain 101, 101, and 200 yds. That is leadership and poise.

But you are not convinced.

Let's take a look at how UW played Andrew Luck earlier in the season. They had two LBs assigned as spies. Luck ended up going 16-21 for 169 yds. Luck audibled running plays up the middle a number of times. Care to guess the stats? Stanford's RBs in that game had 138, 117, and 93 yds. rushing. Stanford scored 65 points. Sound familiar?

In both games, UW decided to shut down the star QBs and risked the running game going wild. Both QBs responded by calling stellar games and letting the RBs take center stage.

BB, in the Sons of Washington you asked a certain member to not tell you how to think. I am going to ask you not to condensend me. I saw you posted that earlier, but you cannot tell me whether or not it was the coaches telling him to make adjustments.

You say he called numerous successful audibles, great. I watched the game for a second time and I am not sure what you're talking about as far as audibles. I did not see him adjust as successfully as you claim. In fact, I saw him look to the sideline a couple times once teams got set, looking for direction from the coaches.

Even so, that does nothing to counter my argument that he was indecisive when the pressure was bearing down on him. He was too quick to leave the pocket, not running through his progressions. If he has time in the pocket, he throws a beautiful pass. If pressured and if his throws are completions, they tend to leave the receiver with no ability for YAC unless on screens.

Maybe that is scheme. Most college coaches who have a QB with such talent will tell them to just run. It works, but he took a lot of hard shots the other night. If he plays the NFL game like that he is going to get crushed.

While I see him being a successful QB in this league, I do not want him in a Redskins' uniform. I don't see him as anything more than another Randall Cunnigham, Michael Vick type and I want a Brady/Manning/Rothlesberger type here.

I really dislike Nick Saban, but he is (dare I say) a great college coach.
 
Flabbergasted by how unprepared and just plain FLAT the Tigers were for this game. Unbelievable!
 
The Tigers were certainly outcoached by a very large margin, but the players have some responsibility also. Its the National Championship! It shouldn't require the coaches to get you fired up.
 
LSU brought Doofiss Gump to quarterback this game and let him do his damage.

I agree. That is a responsibility of the upper classmen. But this game was about one coach completely outshining the other since they have evenly matched teams. Nick Saban is a better coach in my mind.
