2011 College Football Thread

I've never seen Oklahoma lose by this type of margin. Amazing when you think about it.

Fun trivia fact of the day/week(I'm getting older.)

What is a Sooner? Where did that name come from? Think about it....then scroll down for the answer.

Answer: Apparently, at one time the state of Oklahoma was empty, and open to be claimed by anyone.

They set a date for people to come in, and simply claim their plot of land.

A day before that event took place.....a few people broke in early, and made their stakes.

Those people were called "Sooners." As opposed to "Laters."

Pretty cool trivia. And a somewhat negative connotation to the phrase, "Sooners."

Farewell to Hewstun and Virjinnyuh Teck.

Would be a shame if Okrahomuh St. and Stanferd are left out.

If the Crimsun Turkeys are in, then the BCS officially becomes a joke that never has the right kind of punch line.

Still can't get over how dominating LSU was last night. They won 42-10 without getting a 1st down in the entire first half! Incredible.

Also, my friends and I thought they screwed up the 3rd quarter timing...felt like it was around 20-25 minutes long!

Virginia Tech leap frogs Clemson (who beat them TWICE), and will be in the Sugar Bowl. Now that's what is wrong with college football; a school gets the edge b/c they travel better...

This season has been a travesty. A trav-sham-ockery, actually. We can only hope that the insanity that the BCS has produced will lead to some sort of playoff system instead.

VT has a good history with the Sugar Bowl. I all comes down to who travels better and the $$.

This why so many would like a playoff system.

Yep. Not to mention the whole LSU/Bama #1 and #2 thing. We now get to wait 30+ days for the National Championship....all time that there could be a playoff going on. Sigh.

From what I understand, VT and Michigan get a cut of the money. Plus, each school in the ACC gets a small piece of the pie. Same with Clemson and UVA going to bowls. They get a cut and other ACC schools get a cut from these bowls.

You can't tell me the main reason we don't have a playoff is with the bowl system we are talking serious money.

It's all about the money. The problem I see is the colleges involved lose out on a lot of money when upsets happen. Say the number one seed in the playoff system gets upset in the first round of the playoffs? They would stand to lose millions in revenue had they remained the #1 seed.

I am not supporting the current system, it is so flawed I almost don't enjoy this time of year...that is until the games actually start up about Christmas and beyond. I just don't see the schools wanting to give up on the money as much as the BCS, which I don't understand because there could be so much more money in a playoff system. Or at least I would think a playoff system would create more revenue.

And Geaux Tigers! I cannot root for Saban to win another National Championship!

About 4 weeks ago, there is no way I would have thought anyone other than Andrew Luck would even be considered for this year's Heisman Trophy. As I was watching them introduce the players, I was wondering if another 'Bama RB or if RGIII is gonna edge past Luck.

I still think Luck ends up with the trophy, but it is much closer now than I thought it would be just a few weeks ago.

More TDs than Incompletions just blows my mind.

Congrats to the Florida St. faithful who reside at BGO. Always good to see Notre Dame get beat. :)
