2011 College Football Thread

Yeah, the polls should be interesting tomorrow night ( I meant tonight). It will be interesting to see how far up the ranks Stanford goes after the meltdown by all those top ranked teams BB. Alabama goes back to #2, Arkansas should get the #3 slot putting Stanford back at the #4 spot. VT had a squeaker to get past UNC, but Cal has played tougher opponents than UNC so Stanford should get the chance to go back above them. We'll see.

Top 5 should look like this:

1. LSU
2. Alabama
3. Arkansas
4. Stanford
5. VT

4 and 5 could go either way.

Some interesting SEC action coming next week! Bama plays Auburn which Bama should win but you never know with that rivalry. And LSU plays Arkansas which will be one helluva game! Huge BCS implications a brewing!

No clue what the BCS will look like but the AP is out and OSU only slipped to 5 and VT only rose to 6.

UVa, for those interested, is now ranked 24 going into this weekends game with VT at Scott Stadium in C-ville.

That's interesting that OSU didn't fall further, they lost to an unranked team.

Well, the BCS standings came out and I am left scratching my head.

OSU only drops to #4 after losing to an unranked team?

Stanford, who has beaten a couple of ranked teams, does not surpass VT who has only beaten one ranked team all season.

Meh, OSU loses to OK, Alabama loses to Auburn next week, Arkansas loses to LSU, VT loses to VA, and we might get to see Luck play against LSU's defense after all. That is provided Stanford gets past Notre Dame!

Anyone with tickets and or parking passed to game Saturday in Charlottesville is holding the equivalent of gold. People are looking for both right now.

Big in state rivals and playing for ACC Coastal title...game is going to be good.

Big time upset potential in Death Valley Friday night, however I just don't see them losing. Tigers have struggled against Arkansas, and I expect a closer game than the Ole Miss shellacking, however LSU should control the game.

LSU 24 - Arkansas 14

No doubt! I looked for tickets a couple of days ago. The cheapest on stub hub was $175 and they went up to $1500 for tickets near the 50.

Really felt like no matter what, the Hoos were going to get screwed out of a comeback win there - nice to see them prevail. What a game it'll be against Va Tech now. Wow.

Those were carolina refs....doing everything they could to screw the Hoos.

LSU demolishes Arkansas, heading to the SEC championships game. Georgia had a burst earlier in the year, but isn't anywhere near the level of Alabama or Arkansas. LSU should waltz into the National Championship game pretty easily.

yeah, you have been right about LSU from the beginning. theyre firing on all cylinders and are clearly the favorites to win the national title.

I think even if they lose to Georgia they will be in the National Championship game as they probably won't drop past 2nd in the BCS.

If they do win, the battle for number 2 could get pretty confusing. If OKSt beats OU, I think they have to jump to number 2. I still can't believe they lost to Iowa State! Amazing. If OKSt loses, who is at number 2? Since they are both are idle, theoretically I wouldn't think Stanford could jump Alabama at this point. The question will be if Virginia Tech can beat Clemson handily enough to jump into the 2nd spot?

Scenarios:
LSU wins, OKSt beats OU & jumps to #2, LSU vs. OKSt.
LSU loses, OKSt beats OU & jumps to #1, LSU vs. OKSt.
LSU wins, OKSt loses to OU, VT wins big against Clemson, LSU vs. VT

Another question - can Houston possibly jump into the number 2 spot? I don't think its possible, but if they win big at Southern Miss on Saturday and stand at 13-0, and VT & OKSt. both lose, shouldn't they get a shot? Would be interesting, that's for sure.

Gonna be an interesting weekend, that's for sure!

So you are assuming Bama drops in the polls if LSU loses? Why wouldn't the Tide move to #1?

Because LSU beat them, I don't think they can move ahead of LSU no matter what happens. Stranger things have happened in the BCS though, so who knows.

If LSU, OKSt, & VT all lose, I think the rankings would remain unchanged with LSU #1 and Alabama #2.

While I agree Bama could be hurt by not playing this weekend especially if OSU annihilates OK, I think you're assertion that Bama would not jump LSU is flawed. They do not count head to head when computing BCS. Bama lost to the #1 team in the nation, that's why they didn't fall far. If LSU loses to the #14 team in GA, they are going to be hit harder for it than Bama was by losing to the #1.

And after looking at the rankings, OSU is going to have to put a mighty whooping on OU to pass Alabama. Bama has a pretty hefty lead of more than a half point. Again, Bama lost their one game to the #1 ranked team, OSU lost to an unranked team.

So the buzz is that the National Championship is going to be LSU-Alabama, no matter what happens this weekend. The best other teams can hope for is a portion of the 'Ship if LSU loses. Man the BCS sucks sometimes...

This is my new favorite sports website (outside of BGO, obvs), Harvard Sports Analysis. They ran scenarios for the BCS Championship. According to this, since LSU & Alabama both won last weekend, and if LSU wins the SEC Championship, it will be LSU vs. Alabama in the BCS National Championship.

Its a shame, really - as most wanted to see Andrew Luck versus the best D in the country. Oh well...

I was really hoping that Auburn could pull an upset. I have no problem with LSU being in the title game (provided they beat Georgia). This weekend, Okie St., Oregon, and Virginia Tech could lose - not likely, but it could happen. That would make Alabama a shoo-in, right? Not so fast.

At that juncture, Alabama is obviously in, but should that be the case? By staying at home and doing nothing, they are rewarded with a shot at a national championship. One of the other aforementioned three should be considered - if they win of course. Assuming that is the case, one (or more) of those schools went out and WON their conference - on the playing field. Alabama is not even good enough to appear in their own conference championship game.

A single conference SHOULD NOT have the right to have two of their own playing for a national title. Everything about it is wrong - horribly wrong. It should come down to who is rated the best amongst OSU, Ore., VT, and Stanford. The three that are playing for conference championships would get preferred status over Stanford. However, if all three lose, then Stanford should get the nod.

Alabama had their shot and came up short. Is it the fault of other conferences that LSU and Alabama play in the same division? Alabama fans would be crying "foul" if they are left out, but the harsh reality still boils down to the fact that they had a legitimate shot and didn't win. LSU beat them AT ALABAMA! The Crimson Tide could not close the deal at home and to a fan, that should leave them out of the discussion.

I couldn't agree more, BB. Unfortunately the very, very flawed BCS doesn't work that way. I wish it did though.

Jeebus. OK State sure looks good tonight. This is embarrassing at this point. Can they leapfrog Bama?

Bama's lead is too great, at least that's what I've seen. Sad, really.
