This is the problem as I see it. Listen, I know I am not a pro-scout and my opinion is based upon my limited knowledge of college prospects, but I believe the only top 5 player in this year's draft is Ndamukong Suh. I don't think any of the others, from what I have read or seen, stand out enough to be paid that money or chosen with that pick.
 
I think by trading down we could get whoevers first round pick and maybe 3rd round pick and a 4th. Maybe Allen and Shanahan (if he is indeed the new head coach) will have a good idea of what QB we need to draft in the 2nd round. I still think the 1st round pick should be used for the best avalable Offensive Tackle.
 
Because of the dollars involved the Redskins can't simply force the pick of a tackle at #5 or wherever they land unless they believe he will come in and start as Chris Samuels did.

While it would be stupid for the team to take yet another DL or safety in Round 1, I do think that SOME weighting has to be given to the absolute best player available argument.

I think Round 2 is the earliest you start targeting positions that narrowly as the potential downside risk cap wise is minimized based on the bonuses picks there typically receive.

One thing I Don't want to see is another Malcolm Kelly selection made.

If a guy faces a potential medical reject grade, pass him by and take less risk with another player.

Vinny was very irresponsible for taking that extra WR when the team had a lot of other needs and the player in question faced an uphill battle to just get on the fiels in the NFL.

So, you would take Suh or Berry if they are there for us at 5 or before if things evolve that way?

I can't say I wouldn't like to see Ndmaukong Suh in a Redskins jersery next to Big Al, but I still would rather see us trade down to somewhere near the middle of round 1 for some one like Bruce Campbell, Anthony Davis, Trent WIlliams or Brian Bulaga at OT. Most of these guys can be picked up in the 12-25 pick range of the first round.

We just need to find a team that needs a specific player. Cleveland might be looking at Berry at 6, but there could be a team in desperate need of a good safety who might want to jump in front of them. Maybe Suh falls into out lap, there are plenty of teams that need a dominant DT like him, we have one who is very good and several who are serviceable.

I know we can't be fixed in one draft, but the more picks we get back, the better off we will be.
 
I agree. We just have two many needs if we can trade down I vote we do. Plus if Shanahan is the new head coach he likes smaller athletic guys on the O-line. Those guys should be there in the later rounds.

Anyone like Spiller?
 
Looks that way. Giving up that late SD touchdown will turn out to be the most productive play of the 2009 season.

Well it looks like we are the 4th pick in the 2010 draft. Let the games begin! Who will we choose with the 4th pick? Will we trade down? Will it be a QB? O-lineman? If Ndamukong Suh is there do we take him? How about Eric Berry?

Sarcasm? I KNOW you love the off season just as much as I do. ;)

This will be the most discussed offseason since Gibbs was brought back. After this season, it will be nice to have something to look forward to.
 
Suh and Berry will both be gone. I say Tampa takes DT McCoy from Oklahoma. The Skins should have their choice of QB or LT.

If the rumors and Mocks are true........KC seems to have interest in drafting russel okung.

Maybe you trade spots with KC (and get a pick or two), then try and trade back again and get a few more picks......

The good news is that we may be able to get some picks.
At worst, somebody like Okung would be there to anchor our line.

I watched Okung last night and he was damn good, but he was not spectacular. I just don't think anyone interested in an O-lineman would be willing to trade up since there appear to be at least 4 that could go in the first round, all seeming to have about the same ability. If we took Okung with that pick, I'd bet they'd trade down to pick one of the others later in the 1st while securing a pick or two more for themselves.

The only trade scenario I see for us is someone who is looking for their QB in Clausen or Bradford. If by chance Suh is there we will have huge trade bait! But he should be gone by then, maybe McCoy if there is someone in desperate need of a DT.

Jimbo, you may be right! Here it is only an hour and a half after the last game of the season and we are already on it! LOL!!!

Based on strength of schedule, yes. So, we were actually winners today because this year the difference between picks #6 and #4 is huge. I'm thinking Clausen, Suh, and McCoy go 1-2-3. That would give us our choice of Okung or trading down.

It's early but at this point I'm thinking trading down is the way to go since as was pointed out earlier, there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between a lot of the available OTs. Ideally we'd be able to trade back with one of the teams that has two first rounders...mind you I haven't checked the pick value chart to see if the values work. However, if we could finagle that kind of deal and pick up two OL in the first and perhaps another in the 2nd, (say some combo of; B. Bulaga, Anthony Davis, Charles Brown, M. Iupati, Asamoah, and/or Matt Tennant) I'd be in Hog Heaven (pun fully intended). :)

OTOH if Clausen falls to us for some reason, like maybe not being able to reach a contract agreement with the Lambs (an entirely likely scenario) I'd say we have to take him at #4. He's the only QB in this year's draft worth a top half first round pick IMHO.
 
Let's just hope we do better than the last two times we picked at #4, without Snyder being involved, and with a "real" GM on board.

Since we're obviously NOT drafting a receiver, we should have better luck this time. ;)
 
Anything can happen between now and the actual draft, but in terms of quarterbacks and offensive linemen, I'm crossing my fingers for Jimmy Clausen. He looks like has the tools and the fire to finally bring some good old leadership to the Redskins. I've watched Sam Bradford's highlights, and I just can't find myself spending the #4 overall pick on a guy with so many unknowns. He might be elite, but you can't tell from his highlight reel.
