Random NFL Thoughts

I am not an age-gapist but I do have my own conceived limits. My wife is 13.5 years younger. My sticking point on this particular outlier couple, and they are indeed outliers not societal normies in any fashion, is the following question-

How would I feel if a 20 year old daughter of mine brought home her 68 year old boyfriend to meet the family?

How would you?
 
The NFL Network replays games that I record and watch later, most I dismiss. Last night it was the '98 Vikings vs time MVP Brett Favre coming off 3 straight MVPs. I had to watch to enjoy that Vikes team, and what a show they put on. But on the Green Bay side, and throughout the game, I was surprised to see how similar the game was to today's game. GB was throwing a ton of short, quick passes just like today. A roughing the passer penalty was called on a DL who had already launched and fell on top of Favre, I remembered they let that stuff go back then.

Boomer and Deirdorf got into it with regard to Cunningham or Brad Johnson when he returned from injury most of the game. Esiason said you can't take out Cunningham when the offense was lighting it up, Dierdorf was kind of an ass as he stuck with his positon that Brad Johnson was the starting QB for the Minnesota Vikings when he returned. Guess we know who was right.

I was curious about Vince Young. I am always fascinated by stories like this and how someone can screw up their life so badly. Turns out he was hired by U Texas as some "development officer" job that sounds like a favor for 100 grand and was fired for not showing up, poor performance and not being in contact with his boss. He was later rehired for again 100 grand as some special assistant to the athletic department. It kind of pisses me off that Texas extends so many favors to a person who does not deserve them.

Well.. why? And what constitutes failure?

I think if you have good personnel, and you can't get it done, it's a failure. Otherwise, it's not necessarily all on the OC/DC/HC. It depends.

I think he's a good OC. I am not sure if he will succeed as a HC. It is not the same skillset. If I had to guess, I think he will do OK. I don't think his personnel this year will be that bad (I haven't looked much though, just the feeling from what I saw in FA/draft).
 
I get that Chip Kelly thinks he knows better and there could be some good science and reasoning behind the stance being important; however, there is a voice in my head that says he is micromanaging something he could let go, but he is Chip Kelly and refuses to let go.

Raiders OC wants Ashton Jeanty to ditch 'Michael Myers' stance

Raiders rookie Ashton Jeanty says that offensive coordinator Chip Kelly wants him to adjust his pre-snap stance.

I just have a suspicion that if things go badly for a stretch he’s not one to take the blame. Which a head coach has to do, even if they aren’t to blame.
 
Jim Irsay died today. He had some weird moments, like appointing Jeff Saturday as head coach, but as a Washington fan, I'll always fondly remember him as one of the owners that began the push to kick out Dan Snyder.

As Washington fans, can we get together and do something for Irsay? Flowers, charity donation, or something? I mean him standing up and saying Snyder had to go when the rest of the owners and Goddell had their thumbs up their bums should be recognized.
 
We will definitely always owe Irsay a debt of gratitude. I don't know how much his statements helped moved the exit of Snyder along, but every little bit helped, including our own site's energetic efforts calling for the sale of the team and giving a platform for victims of the Snyder era (like Megan Imbert) to voice what really went on. He was one of the few owners to have the moral courage to speak up even if his own history was not pristine.

I actually am with Chip on this one. It’s why you have coaches. If there is a legitimate reason and it can help the player improve, try it. And it didn’t sound like Kelly was an ass about it.

Sometimes you’ve got to push guys into doing something different.
 
^ another good draft decision by AP and company by avoiding Judkins!

The Browns did have a weird draft taking 2 QBs and 2 RBs, perhaps they foresaw issues. Judkins was a 2nd and Sampson was a 4th rounder
With QB's they went Gabriel in the 3rd and Sanders in the 5th. I think they still have like 6 QB's on the roster
