Yes, their first two picks were CBs, but they took 2 OL on day three. The year before they drafted Ringo and got Ricks UDFA, so CB has been a focus. That year they took DL 1rst and they took Steen at the top of the 3rd, when we should have been focused on OL and not waiting for garbage like Stromberg and Daniels on day 3 and hoping for starters. Year before they went DL and OL (a center while Kelce wasn't retiring). They drafted a C high the year before that too (along with 4 DL that draft). One of those DL is going to be a 3rd round comp pick, which is where they got him.

Before all of that, they drafted pretty badly. Howie has laid out the blue print on how to build a winner. Get your offensive fire power aggressively any way you can and then pay them to stay, always draft the trenches (doesn't have to be in the first) and attack your weaknesses.

I watched a longish interview with Howie Roseman recently. He comes off well. Talks about how much he's learned, etc. Yeah they've had some mediocre drafts years ago. But sadly in recent years, they've killed it -- juxtaposed with Ron's abysmal drafts. It's unbelievable that this team made the NFC Championship considering how bad the young talent is. It brings home the one thing we have that the Eagles don't -- an elite QB. Hurts is good but not elite IMO. Imagine Daniels with that Eagles O line, Barkley and the Eagles receivers?

I would love to see how much the Eagles use of the tush push has attributed to their success. They do have awesome talent and I am far from implying that the only reason they are successful is because of the tush push, but how many drives have been extended, how many points have they scored due to it. Granted they have the OL and QB to make it work but I would love to know how much this one much ballyhood play has helped. Again, not implying they wouldn't be where they are without it.

One guy I haven't heard or read much on but seems to have good stats, size, speed, and doesn't fumble is Gators Montrell Johnson. Am I missing something with him or would he be a decent later round RB? 212 LB's, 5 11, 4.41 40, speed is good although not a breakaway guy, good hands, rarely has fumbled, decent receiver?

There is chance we don't take a RB until late so was just wondering about this dude. Not super exciting but seems like he'd normally be ranked higher than I have seen him.

He looked good in the one game I watched of him. Good size, good speed. But yeah on many mocks, he looks like he's going undrafted. Maybe its the pedistrian stats -- they are low compared to most backs in this class. No much pass catch production. He had one of the lowest yards after contact rates and missed tackle numbers.

As soon as they unlocked the broom closet they had Howie locked in and unleashed him, with full owner support, it was pretty impressive that they were good.



After a superbowl MVP performance, it's hard for me to say Hurts is not elite or at least very close to it. There's no brotherly shove without Hurts, the "Dagger" was one of the best plays I've ever seen in a superbowl. If Mahomes was Brady, that was his 28-3 moment and Hurts hammered the coffin shut with an incredible throw.

But yeah, RonMart absolutely killed this team. The reason I mentioned Tyler Steen, was because that draft, the first two rounds were packed with insane OL talent and it was our biggest weakness outside of QB. After Steen at 3-2, the next OL drafted was our first with the last pick of day 2. Ron let a historic amount of OL talent go to every other team in the league and then took garbage with solid talent at other positions still on the board. I think that day 3 draft was the exact moment you and I both took our stand on Ron over the top.

But it's things like having the organizational structure and support to have a player like Jordan Mailata, a 7th round pick in 2018 stick around and learn how to play football and become probably the best OT in football. Certainly the most fun to watch, so when you tade a 1rst for a WR, draft one at #10 overall or sign a FA from a rival, you get the most out of them. It's why I hate to trade away day 2&3 picks.

Hurts is very good. He doesn't hit me as elite. IMO has the perfect supporting cast. No one has it better. He has great protection. A great running game. Arguably the 2nd best tandem of Wrs in the league. One of the best tight ends. A defense that doesn't give up points, probably the best in the league.

Yet he does very well but as a passer he's streaky. When you dive into his stats with analytics, almost doesn't matter which stat you pick, for example the number of big time throws, its pedestrian stuff at best. And look i think he's better than the analytic scores. PFF has him ranked 32, which I think is silly. But for example, his QBR rating which puts him 10th in the league feels right.

He has the luxury of holding the ball for longer than the typical QB and he often exploits that. Watching him play against this team at times, the amount of time Hurts has to look down the field is surreal. I've never seen this team's QB have that kind of luxury.

But Hurts is definitely talented and a gamer. And certainly a good enough QB to win championships with. But i got my doubts he can carry a mediocre roster the way Jayden did last year.

I like the matchup to Jayden and its part of the reason why I touted him. But with the unproven guys as to production, they are hit and miss in a big way in the pros, its a gambe. But the deeper we go into the draft, i like rolling the dice on players like that.
 
Here's the question. Are you willing to take Thornton at 61? Because that's probably what you have to do to get him (unless you trade back and pick up an early 3rd).

I like his potential but I doubt he goes that high. There is usually some fear for taking a WR that high with lack of production. Maybe the mocks are off but right now he seems to be in the 5th-7th round range.

I'd say QB10 is fair for Hurts. The good team vs carry a team argument is such a hard thing to hit a guy for. He's been a starter for 4 years and been in 2 SBs winning on as MVP. That's HoF stuff. Do the Eagles win the SB last year with Lawrence or Tua? Maybe. With Burrow? Definitely. Allen has had better teams than Mahomes, but can't get it done. Does he win that superbowl? I don't think so.

I still have some disbelief that Daniels is who is was last year. I want to see some more of it. After the last 30 years of QB hell we've lived in, it's going to take some time for me to believe again.

That's something I hammer on the most, generally. Production over potential. I'd say it all comes down to the interviews.

If you're the big, fast, quick, don't have an obvious drops problem and you're willing to put in the work, you're going to be good eventually.

Of course reaching for those guys on day two is how you lose your job when they don't hit, but on day 3 that's what that round is for.

There's a reason that they're the only team that pulls that play off so well and it's because their QB can squat 600lbs.

I'm not sure why that play is used as a knock on them. Their success with it, is impressive. What's funny is, Sirianni created that play for Brissett when he was OC of the Colts.

I'm thinking a trend this year will be teams going for it on 4th more than in the past. Not specifically the tush push but teams like the Commanders had great success going for it last year. Though not everyone has JD or Hurts behind center.

My only concern with Jayden is injuries. If he stays healthy, I think the dude can rival Mahomes as the best in the league. And its far from a homer type of take, plenty of national observors think this dude is slam dunk top 5 QB if not will be better. Heck Jayden even bleeds into the draft podcasts I listen to including Kiper's last where he talks about a QB can change everything, see Washington and Daniels. This dude is good but he's no Jayden Daniels on and on.

He is probably already the best scrambiling-running Qb in the league aside from Lamar. He throws one of the better deep balls. He has one of the quickest releases -- one of the quickest processors. 5th with PFF score. 4th with QBR.

And he does this as a rookie with arguably the worst supporting cast among the top 10 QBs. He has no running game in the home stretch. No legit #2 WR. A 35 year old TE. A below average O line. And a defense that can't hold a lead and is the #3 worst in the NFL in the 4th quarter. Yet Jayden carried them on his shoulders.

Imagine Jayden with a running game. With good blocking. With a legit #2 WR. With a defense that doesn't fold in big spots in the 4th quarter? i think the best is yet to come from Jayden.

Yeah especially with this team being in a spot where we can compete, i am wlling to take some risks especially in the mid to later rounds.

TE is really interesting on that front. Lets say Arroyo versus Taylor. IMO Arroyo could be a superstar. He's really explosive. But smaller sample. Injury concerns? Taylor feels like you can't miss. But his upside is a bit boring to me. So I'd be torn between the two because its rare for me to watch a college TE and to be that sold on a floor the way I am with Taylor. But when some say Arroyo can be the next Kittle -- I get it, it doesn't sound crazy but likewise he could be a bust, too.

Another compare is Ferguson and Fannin. Ferguson is the safer pick. I am not as sold on him as Tayor as to his floor. But his floor seems high enough that i think he's at least servicable. Fannin is another that hits me boom-bust. The boom part is this guy in the flat is so hard to take down, sort of a TE Deebo, and his hands are great. The bust is he runs in a funny way, he's just an OK athlete and you wonder if his style translates to the NFL.

I agree with you, I just can't believe its real for us. I think Maye and JJ are going to be good, too. I think Caleb will suck and be out of the league in 5 years. We definitely need to continue trying to hit on a QB though, because he's not playing 20/21 games every year.

Us, the Eagles and the Lions I think were the most aggressive. Lions got second guessed a lot early on, because of some missed 4rths. I think it depends on the team.
