How did the giants get Winston at 4 per and we're paying mariota 8?

Am I missing something, statistically speaking Winston is better in almost every category.

I know stats aren't everything but something seems off with Winston at 4 and mariota at 8.
Winston has actively stunk the last several times he’s actually played football and Mariota basically won 2 games for us last year and is valuable in the room.

Also, I’m sure there was a bigger market for Mariota.

Winston is good for a quote and 2 INTs a game.

Uhh yeah Winston is nice if you own his WR’s in fantasy football, but he sucks if you want to sustain drives and win games while keeping pressure off your defense and playing complete football. He’s extremely high variance in a bad way and can single-handedly lose you games when he has a bad day. Kinda the opposite of what you want in a “keep the ship steady” backup vet role behind your young franchise QB.

He’s also a fucking clown that I wouldn’t want populating the film room with Daniels. That’s where Mariota really shines, as a mentor and film buddy. Winston’s had his image rehabilitated (painstakingly I might add) and he seems like a fun guy, but he’s also got some dark assault accusations in his past that people just ignore now. No, I’m not talking about his dumb college stuff—not the crab incident, or the yelling profanities in the dining hall incident. Not that dumb stuff—actual criminal stuff. He’s very possibly a scumbag and that’s not our culture.

Nabors will eat with Winston under center but the Giants will be extremely streaky if not horrendous. I actually think this is a stealthy tanking move from them because they can put up offensive numbers and try to preserve Daboll’s job while still losing football games and praying Arch Manning decides to come out if they earn the 1.01 pick.

Will they let me bring crab legs into Jack Kent Cooke Fedex Commanders Field Northwest Stadium?
Now that’s funny. I’ve always thought Winston should end up in Baltimore. Sadly they typically look for good players and he has never fit that job description.

Nabers is now a top 5 FF choice and the NFC East defenses just got more valuable.

He's fun to watch though, as long as he's not your QB. I wanted to sign him over Fitz and Hei.....nevermind.

I love seeing Winston in the East. I wonder if they sell their draft pick this year, move back to the mid 20's, draft Jeanty and go into next season with a load of picks after a tank season.

After watching the Gallop press conference he comes across as someone who will be extremely motivated to perform. I was luke warm initially but this is another very low risk signing that if Gallop is healthy and motivated could be a great pick up. Listening to his reasons for retiring and not being in the best spot mentally during his time with the Raiders makes sense. Could be a big addition. Excited to see how it works out.

The first rule of [REDACTED] is we do not talk about [REDACTED]

Gads that decision to sign Fitz blew up so badly.

Totally different skillsets, but I think the same position on the depth-chart. So, it is literally a "which of these adds more" deal at that spot on the depth chart. When you talk about WR1/WR2, you are talking about specific skills (which one excels in what exact skills varies, but usually the combination nets you speed and on at least one excellent speed, great hands usually on both, great route running usually for both). When you are talking about WR3, you are generally talking about a chain mover, someone who is I think more typically a must-have good hands type at least. When you get to WR4/5, you take what you can get in the skillsets. It really depends. A lot of times here, as usual down the depth chart, you want ST contributions. So, we got some really good ST contributions from Crowder *when healthy.*

There is one other lens that I analyze bias and signings with, and this was particularly troubling with Rivera: do other teams actually want this player, or are you the only one? This may not be that bad of a thing sometimes (fit is better, or you just know something about the player), and sometimes it can be absolutely horrible (pure bias/friendship, blinding). This was the case in the FO *a lot* with our team in the past. As for AP/DQ, I have not seen this problem in my mind much at all.

I am not overly concerned with Gallup at all, for all of the reasons you have said, and I will definitely give the benefit of the doubt, but professional orgs who are bent on winning I think tend do a lot fewer favors to buddies than others. So, I just hope he showed something legit at the workout, and I certainly accept it on faith right now.

OK - there is some personal animus for me against having so many former Cowboys; MY bar is higher and my bias is against it! I hate reading articles like this: https://athlonsports.com/nfl/dallas...-rival-commanders-in-signing-dan-quinn/roster

Nice post. One thing I continue to think about is something that was said early on in this transition (I think it was DQ who said it) and that is that they don't want to focus on what players CAN'T do, but they want to find the things their players CAN do really well. Of course, that's a bit trite and maybe 'coach speak' but I think it's actually a big part of their philosophy. I would use Zaccheus as a prime example. He's not a top tier WR or an elite talent. But he is a gamer and they found ways to use him that took advantage of what he does very well. Super physical player who can get YAC. As a result he had a career season in 2024. He was a great fit for what Kingsbury wanted to do on offense. One of the reasons many of the moves AP makes seem puzzling to fans is because he is all about finding players who 'fit' what we want to do. They look for very specific skillsets in the context of what they need to execute the offense and defense 'as designed'. That's about as different an approach as you could have in DC where 'fit' was an afterthought if even then.

Rich Eisen was talking about us as a contender and then the next thing you know, our season flies right off the water slide.
Well, there was no way to predict Fitz was going to get hurt and miss the entire season 16 snaps into it.

But as soon as it became clear we had to relay on [REDACTED], the season was over.

Fitz was horrible in the preason and everyone knew getting into bed with Ryan FItzpatrick was making a deal with the devil. He would have teased us for a short time but would eventually make you throw lamps at the tv.

LOL. I figured you said Baltimore, for its proximity to our glorious crabbing industry in the Chesapeake Bay.

Who is this Herbig cat? Speaking of eats I hope he is corn fed.

Crabs are the state bird of Maryland.

I am glad Dallas has the Parsons contract issue to handle.

Right along with Dak counting $76M against the 2026 cap.

Washington and Philly are going to remain better teams because we don’t kick the can like Dallas has.

Dak should have been traded or let go as a free agent a couple of years ago.

But ole Jerry didn’t want to have to bite the bullet for a year and retool.

That’s the harm in having an owner that wants to play GM.

They want immediate gratification.

Jerrah doesn't play GM. He IS the GM. And President. And Owner. He has all of those titles.

That's different than a meddling owner. A meddling owner, well, meddles. They hire people who they interfere with.

Jerrah has never done that. He has come out and said "I'm the GM." He makes the decisions. Period.

However, the magnitude of the way they have messed up the Dak situation is almost as mind boggling as the magnitude of the way the 'Skins messed up the Cousins situation, except in the opposite direction.

They've VASTLY overpaid Dak for no particular purpose, and then restructured him to solve a today problem which makes tomorrow's problem worse.

At some point, Dak is going to cost $100m on their cap when they cut/trade him because they will have worked it into a pretzel in such a way they can't get out of it.

I too would be the happiest person on earth with 40M a year.

Money doesn't buy happiness. It also can't buy love.

Haven't you ever seen the movie "Can't buy me love?"

:p

Up until I just posted this, I had NO IDEA the kid in that movie was Patrick Dempsey. I used to love this movie so much. 1987 VOR had a serious crush on the blonde.

Unfortunately she passed away at a far too early age.

I don’t know. Winston isn’t good. But he can get really hot.

It shouldn’t even be a, “contract situation to handle.” It should be a free throw. He’s one of the best two players on the team, is young, you drafted him, and he’s a top 5 player at the position in the league. Just offer him a slightly above market value contract and get him signed. How do you drop that ball? If he were on the Commanders and we were handling it like this, I’d be so frustrated.
