The team name should be selected by Wash fans. Simple as that. The name was forced on fans with lies that they would have a major say in it.

Sure, things in life suck and you have to grind through it. That's life. But this is an aspect that is supposed to bring joy or entertainment. If it's not doing so (for whatever reason), why would someone "work through" it? This isn't a sick relative or raising a troubled teen. There's no obligation to a team of strangers that a particular fan no longer feels a connection to.

There is no one that was more disgusted with the ‘Commanders’ brand than me. And there is no one here more disappointed in Josh Harris than I am.

Every fan can do what they need to do. Please stop explaining to me why it sucks. I know why it sucks. I’ve been talking about how much it sucks for years. It is over now so again, get busy living ir get busy dying.

I agree with this.

I'd also argue not to make a decision you can't change in the heat of the moment. People are mad now because they had a hope that was squashed. Like Boone and others said yesterday, people deserve the right to be mad, to scream, to vent, and to be completely irrational. Right now, they should scream, throw things, and make threats (but not act on them). After a time, when they get the rage out if they realize this name is still something too big for them to get over then they should walk.

The Redskins have been a big part of our lives, traditions, and family. There are times a line is crossed and people walk away from their family. If that's what these fans need to do I want judge them. I will miss them. But I won't judge them.

There is no good name. I despise one which had the most fan support, and I think a lot of people do as well, which is Redwolves. It sounds like a junior high school travel soccer team name to me.

I think a lot of the emotion around the name is related to the following areas:

1. It's directly tied to Snyder. And people hate Snyder (rightfully). Transitive property, people are going to hate anything which came out of his ownership.
2. It's directly tied to the old name being gone. I get there was a middle step of "WFT" but people aren't over Redskins being gone.
3. The rollout was complete and total shit. The mistakes which were made (the stupid crest with the wrong super bowl years), the low energy rollout, the bad branding, all of it, it was like Snyder/Wright just dropped a pile of poop on the middle of the table and then just stepped back and looked at it.

As I've said before, the name is dumb, but all the names are dumb, so that's not the problem. The name has 2 major "mechanical" challenges, one I care about, one I kindof don't:

1. There is no obvious abbreviation for a 3 syllable word, so it's a mouthful..
2. What the hell is a Commander and how do you come up with a logo?

They couldn't fix the first one. The second one, they REALLY should have fixed before the name was rolled out. If they wanted Commanders as the name, they should have come up with SOMETHING other than the W as the logo. Doesn't matter what. A sword. A shield. A tank. A ship. A dude holding a sword. Whatever. Anything. And then go all-in on it. Build a campaign around it. Something, anything.

So, the combination of:
1. No options everybody was going to like
2. The emotional nature of losing the original name
3. Hating Snyder and everything associated with him
4. A pathetic excuse of a rollout

all came together to feed an emotional frenzy against the name.

But now that the name is here, I HOPE this group figures something out with a logo, tweaks the marketing and branding, and then really goes all in with the whole thing. I do think if they had done this to begin with, the name would have gone over a little bit better. But they didn't. So now the new group has to do it.

All that can probably be summarized as "Snyder Sucks." But I used more words.

Great post, more or less captures my thoughts. One thing I'll add is that the 3 syllable name makes it difficult to incorporate into the fight song, "Hail to the Commanders........." is just clunky. The fact that the fight song was more less taken away doesn't get enough attention.

Edit: On the abbreviation of the 3 syllable name, the smoothest (and most unfortunate) option would be Commies. So on the flip side, I thought that "Capitalists" would work. But then we already have the Capitals in town, so now I think the abbreviated name should the "Trickle Down Economists." No to be political or anything.

OK, it seems like we're stuck with Commanders, so I made a couple of more dramatic helmet designs.

I sort of wish they go with a Burgundy and gold version of the DC flag

I don't think it's terrible either. I actually bought a burgundy t-shirt with just the "W" on it a year or so ago but returned it for quality reasons. The "W" is simple and clean which I like in regards to design.

Respectully disagree. There are several better names and they could create a better W.

We could cut a deal for Red Storm. Think of the marketing options-- Hail Storm instead of Raise Hail.

I only meant o be you go with Commanders there aren’t a lot of logo options. On the name, what you said x 1 million.

1 thing we need to do better at is making sure to fully verbalize opinions. We have a core group of members and we know each others primary opinion on just about everything. Our newer folks can’t be expected to know.

I see. Yea you are right. Personally, I would be happy with a block W, like the Senators had back in the 50s.

I don’t know why, but the current W looks cool to me. And probably subliminally it’s because it has nothing to do with Commanders. I can almost forget about the name when it comes to the logo. I do think one possible helmet configuration I they were to get rid of the W would be a burgundy and gold DC flag in one side, the ‘shield’ emblem they came up with on the other. I think that would look pretty tight.

Maybe they just need to double down on ‘Commies’

That is a lot of it for me. Simple. Clean. Doesn't remind me the name is Commanders.
