Jay Gruden thought 2 of Daniels sacks came off missed opportunities on RPO where Jayden didn’t process quickly enough to see pass was open and took minimal losses which go into books as sacks.

He didn’t seem that worried about the stats, says Kingsbury is only coordinator with rookie qb that is bringing him along at sequenced pace and not throwing him to dogs as Chicago and Denver seem to doing.

We get the Ravens in two weeks after Bengals.

This is a tough schedule for a last place team. The only team on our level we are playing is the Giants. Everyone else the first month plus is a playoff team.

Buried in the Daniels' love is the fact that it looks like Brandon Coleman brought it yesterday. Against a top pass rusher, he did more than hold up. If Coleman really can be our LT than this is almost as big a pick as Daniels.
 
Glad to see Daniels blow up in a game you would figure most rookies would have one of their toughest outings in, nationally televised game on the road, etc.

Contrary to all the BS on the radio about not stopping the run and having other issues, this season is about developing the quarterback and starting to see the other draft choices taken in April on offense that are to be here over the next 3-4 years and grow with him.

The defense? In practicality we could have signed a couple name free agents for the secondary and/or made a trade for a pass rusher.

But that's really what the 2025 draft and offseason is all about. That side of the ball lacks the 'anchor' impact player that Daniels is on offense.

Our first round pick hopefully will be that dominant pass rusher or lock down outside corner we have been lacking for years.

In the NFL to have a chance you need the quarterback. That's the hardest position to nail down with quality.

It's still early but it is starting to appear as if the team made the correct decision in a draft where there were a record number of passers taken in Round 1.

The zero turnovers is the most impressive stat given Daniels is a rookie and this offensive unit played it's first game together only 3 weeks ago (y)

This win was a lot different than the one against the Giants.

That was a sloppy affair with penalties and a lot of missed opportunities.

This game was more about Washington taking the initiative on offense by going for several fourth down plays and executing at a high clip.

Nice to see Baptiste get on the field and make a contribution with the sack in the second half on Burrow.

We can bash the corners but this is our least talented position group and I do see effort out there.

Troy put a fine point on one of the clear disappointments - the lack of a pass rush inside and solid run support from the highest paid pair of DTs in the NFL.

Payne but particularly Allen seems to have slowed down quite a bit. The explosiveness we saw from Allen his first 3-4 years in the NFL seems gone at 29/30.

The fact Mathis has been invisible says to me he isn't really capable of going in and giving the two starters much of a blow during the game.

One of the positions you can churn during the season to look at other teams practice squads and street free agents is at DT.

You may not find a guy that can pressure the pocket on passing downs but you can find rotation guys that can stop the run.

We can't continue to give up 5 yards a carry on defense, not with the state of our secondary.

Ridgeway was a good run defender. We may have made a mistake there as Newton is still not ready to play and again Mathis is his usual disappointing self.
 
I though that Newton showed out well. He didn’t have any splash plays but he was all over the field and his quickness, speed, and motor were obvious to me.

The problem at DT though is that Allen and Payne are not holding up vs. the run on the early downs.

So, you bring in a guy like Newton to pressure the pocket and get to the quarterback but his utilization is limited early on during the season by the fact teams are getting 5 or 6 yards on first down runs.

Part of my issue with Quinn is I don't want to see us end up like Dallas, with a pressure defense that has smaller defensive linemen that get pushed around in the run game.

Quinn inherited the big two inside so that's going to play itself out in time as Allen/Payne are not playing up to their contracts.

But we do need run defenders in the front four and we are pretty light at DE with the recent additions and DT right now is not an anchor position for us.

The secondary is not one of the best, obviously, and putting them in the position of defensing 3rd and 3 or 3rd and 4 all of the time instead of 3rd and 8 or 3rd and 9 only places more pressure on them as offenses can literally run anything on downs with less than 5 yards to go.
 
Since they were drafted, people have crowed about our D-Line potential and it’s true that Allen has flashed and Payne has flashed and Sweat had flashed and Chase in his rookie season…

But that lauded line has mostly been a paper tiger. Some attributed this to the line wearing down because our offense left them on the field too long. We haven’t punted in two games. This line should be as fresh as it will ever be. Now, the lack of pressure from our ends does offer some excuse, but not enough. If Payne and Allen are dominant in the middle then they should beat some double teams or get there before blocking help arrives.

Put bluntly, they need to be better. There are no excuses for the middle to be so easy to penetrate by the opponent’s running game.

A combined cap hit for this season of 43 million dollars should probably buy you a bit more production.😉
