The running joke back then was : Did you hear about Earnhardt and Waltrip being arrested for breaking and entering?
They broke into a Ford dealership to see what the front end of a red Thunderbird looked like.
I still remember the witch hunt they got started in 85. NASCAR changed the rules 4 times in one week before the Charlotte race, trying to bust Elliott.
Earnhardt at the time said "Show me a Ford that runs like #9 and I'll buy it"
The man could dish it out but definitely couldn't take it.
I literally despised the way he raced, which was "My car may not be faster than yours but if I can somehow get near you, I'll take you out."
Waltrip and Earnhardt both campaigned to slow the cars down.
Now look at Daytona and Dega. The racing there is flat out ruined.
