2026 Commanders Training Camp

Wide receiver depth chart and center depth chart are incredibly difficult to look at.

I thought Julian Good-Jones had a bunch of NFL experience but that thought was shattered early today. The Center situation is real scary and actually makes the wr room look good

It would suggest he’s reporting it now, today. Nobody said anything at the time, and that’s a major absence that at the time wouldn’t have been controversial to just mention in passing. He was a new hire though and it’s possible none of the beat folks had ever met or talked to him yet, and literally just didn’t notice

There was that day when all the assistant coaches talked to the media, I don't remember when, I think it was after an OTA practice. I really thought somebody talked to Steele. Or maybe it was Logan talking about Steele because Steele was his coach?

(Fast forward about 10 minutes since I wrote that last sentence...) So I just went back and listed to the Beltway Football pod from June 11th which was the day after the assistant coaches were made available. Welker was on, Ben Steele was not. Mitch said he put in all the audio of everybody who spoke. The timing of that would have been RIGHT after the incident.

I dunno. I'd have thought SOMEBODY would have noticed. Ben Standig was take attendance of players his first day.

I wonder if the team asked the beat guys to keep it under their cap while they were doing an investigation or something? I mean, I'm not sure why the beat guys would comply with that....

It seems really odd nobody noticed. But sometimes the most obvious answer is the right answer.

Looks like we are hinged to that. I mean in the mental part of the game, it sounds like Allegretti fits. It's the physical part that I worry about with him

I will say I am used to undersized centers doing pretty well for us, but with Allegretti there hangs the fact that he wasn't good enough at another position so that makes him being an uncontested starter a little worrisome. That said, Jeff Bostic remains one of my favorite 'skins because he was always too small and too unathletic and yet they could never get rid of him.

Yes, I am afraid he gets rag dolled by the big DT/NT's.

Bostic was gritty and used his hands really well, tough guy. Is Allegretti a tough guy? I can't see him fitting with the hogs

I could however see Gulbin be a hog some day though!

The fantasy nerd me worries that we need more of an orc or a troll than a goblin on the line. Then again, Norman Osborne was one of Spidey's fiercest adversaries.

(It's probably only me but every time I see Gulbin my brain reads it as Goblin)

Center and WR are worrying, but TE is even more worrying to me now. I have no idea how much a position coach truly helps, but with a new starting TE and a bunch of players who have never done anything, this feels like the absolute worst time for a position to go without a coach. Especially in a season where the team is supposed to lean on its TEs to make up for the deficiencies of the WRs. To go a month and a half without even an assistant TE coach in-house to do the job?

I hope Welker makes a name for himself, but what incredibly poor timing to depend on someone going above and beyond his expected abilities.

It’s too bad about the tight end coach, I saw an interview with him and liked him, but I think the team takes personal conduct and PR stuff very seriously after all the scandals associated with the old owner’s tenure.

The one thing that I kinda like about Welker in theory is that while our tight ends are generally good blockers (Bates and Sinnott) route running is a weakness. Welker was a shifty, great route runner who maximized his lack of traits. Maybe he can teach Sinnott, Bates, and even Chig how to be better at working zones and the nuances of selling/running routes.

My biggest hope for camp is for the draft picks to show something above & beyond what is expected of them. That goes for any/all of the picks drafted by AP so far. I would take a surprise late bloomer showing out in this new offense. I know there is some folks who think Antonio Williams has potential to be something more. Sonny.....please be who we all hope you are capable of being.

I just want a season where within the first few games it becomes very apparent why players were drafted at the spots they were and we aren't going into another offseason hoping "they just need more reps." Obviously no one is expecting finished products out of rookies but whether they are blue chip talent out of the gate like Sonny or players that immediately show something that most weren't expecting (Terry his rookie year) I just want to see that with some of our players.

AP comes from an organization under Lynch where they just seem to be a combine of drafting talent & developing so many of their picks to where the busts don't even hurt their building process. If we go into AP's fourth offseason with a large group of players that we still are questioning their long term viability on the roster I will unfortunately start to get worried that there is a larger issue looming.

I am a little surprised if they fired the TEs coach for a DUI. I wonder if there is more there (perhaps an alcohol problem that is bleeding into work in other ways?). Most of us have probably at a minimum put ourselves at risk for a DUI at some point in our lives. That's just an unfortunate truth. I'm not downplaying it - getting behind the wheel after drinking is a terrible decision. It just seems more like a lapse in judgement that someone could learn from vs. some horrible indictment of character to me. So I'm always a little surprised to see someone immediately lose their job over it.

I think the biggest goals of this particular Training Camp have to be related to the install of both a brand new offense and brand new defense and the players (especially starters) fully learning and comprehending them. The move to replace both coordinators in the same offseason with totally inexperienced replacements is high risk, high reward if we've ever seen it. Whether or not the transition goes well or is a disaster on one or both sides of the ball is going to be determined over the next several months. I'm very concerned given the murderer's row of our early schedule whether Quinn can get these guys ready to play at a high level coming out of the gate. If he can't pull it off or if either or both of the coordinators struggle early, 2026 may be a tough watch. Of course - Jayden is the wild card in all of that.

It does seem harsh if this is a one time incident and he did not have high blood alcohol levels. I do imagine there is more to the story than just that, zero tolerance is a rough line in the sand. Hopefully Ben can get whatever help he needs if indeed there are underlying issues or concerns.

I want to see Kaytron Allen before I agree with you. He's a tad slower than JCM, but he gets to the 2nd level very quickly and was a punishing back at Penn State. Guy is a sledgehammer who can break tackles. I don't know how you define 'explosive' though. I like his potential more than Bill's because I think he's got a major leg up when it comes to vision and determining where to hit the hole.

It was only a clip from OTA but Allen looked like Ron Dayne to me, a big slow slug. JCM is the polar opposite of that. This team has always needed a back with explosion who provides big plays, and that sure ain't Allen. But it is JCM.
