My bold prediction sure to go wrong: I think White starts the season as RB1.

He's not a bad runner, but they will want his pass catching ability on the field much more than only on 3rd down. I think he and Bill split 1st and 2nd down carries and White gets 3rd down also.

You're probably right, but I think Ford is the most productive rb this year, he is def the most well rounded.

I'm still rooting for Bill. He had a great first half before the team (and he) fell apart. If Bill figures out his pass pro and ball security he is the most dangerous running back on the back. I'm hoping White fills the Ekeler role (receiving back who's asked to run the ball more than we expect him to)

On a different note of the same scale, we have too many running backs. I wonder how many we keep and who or which two are the odd men out. I suspect the rook, Bill, and White are locks. Do we keep 4? I can't see 5.

Another prediction, I don't think Ford makes the team. RBs are going to be White, Bill, Rookie and McNichols.

I still think Ford would be our best goal line back so I'm releasing McNichols before I'm releasing Ford. I like Fords hands around the goal line more than I like McNichols special teams play.

I'm thinking McNichols is out as well. I think White handles a lot of snaps early in the season.

Best case at RB over the season is Bill hangs onto the ball and dramatically improves in pass pro and receiving. Also the Fatman becomes a solid short yardage back while contributing in other areas.

Does Ford do special teams? McNichols does, and that's why he keeps getting jobs.
Not really, used to return kickoffs a lot. Ford is proven to be a capable starter with the ability to play all downs including being good in receiving and pass pro.
I see Bill and especially Allen being the guys that may need to prove worthy on teams.

I think they plan on getting Katron Allen to perform that role. And anybody with the nickname Fatman needs to get a chance to win that job.

I could be super duper wrong about this and overvaluing White. That's a real posibility. However, here's how I think it plays out:

** I'm assuming there are 32 carries per game given the average number of offensive snaps is 65 per game and we want to be essentially 50/50 run/pass:
- White: gets about 12 carries and 4-5 passing game targets per game, and plays on 60% of offensive plays.
- Bill: gets about 12 carries a game, mostly on first and second down and plays on about 30 percent of offensive plays.
- Allen: Gets about 6 carries a game, and all short yardage carries and plays on 10% of plays.
- McNichols: On the roster for ST and can back up all spots in case there is an injury.

I could actually see them only keeping 3 RBs. I think the 4th spot is going to really depend on if they need to keep an extra WR because both returners, McCaffery (Kickoff) and Punt (Lane) are WRs, but might not be the 4th or 5th WR options. So if they need to keep a 6th WR, they might not be able to keep a 4th RB.

I know that Quinn said that about Bill. I think it's kindof bologna. He MIGHT be the second guy back on kickoffs, but McCaffery is the kickoff guy.

I think Bill is going to split the "regular downs" with White. And if he can prove that he's learned something about pass protection, his snap count will increase. And you don't really want one of your primary RBs on teams if you can avoid it.

I don't think we have any idea how the RB room is going to shake out. JCM is a big question mark. I'm not sold on him in any way. White is a proven guy, just a question of how much does he have left in the tank. Allen is intriguing but again who knows. I actually think McNichols is underrated and has been. He's been pretty good when given opportunities. I think there is a lot of talent in the RB room, I just don't see any of them being surefire bell cows, so it's more a matter of what the game plan is week to week and which guys skills match up best with what we are going to try and do that week. I don't think there's any chance we keep just 3 of them on the roster. That would be very surprising to me.

skinsinparadise posted this in the FA thread. Putting it here as well.

As somebody who was terrified about the CB position before, then somewhat relieved that we signed Douglas to get me off the edge, I'm now in full panic mode again.

Armstrong I understand, Wise I don't care about.

Amos being on PUP to start the season is terrifying. Right now our starting CBs are Sainristil, Douglas and Robertson. The next guy in is one of Witherspoon or Hamilton most likely. Based on last year, they probably should be on the PS.

Amos better come back healthy soon, or Sainristil and Douglas are going to have to play 100% of the snaps.

Hopefully this is just an abundance of caution. If it's not, we need to go sign another CB. The reason I was freaked out before was because after Amos, Sainristil and Douglas, you got to Witherspoon or Hamilton. Signing Douglas possibly pushed them off the roster. Now they're possibly on the roster again. That's super bad news.

Yeah, I was just making a guess as to how I think it might play out.

I agree there is a lot of talent there.

I believe we've kept 3 RBs in the past when we've kept 3 QBs. The reason, you can stash a RB on the PS pretty easily and pull them up if you need to. Non-elite RBs are the mostly easily flip-floppable players in the NFL. Elite RBs clearly are not.

It's a bit anxiety inducing for sure - but I have to think they are just being super cautious not to bring those guys back until they are absolutely ready in order to avoid a repeat of anything close to 2025 injury issues.

I agree and with the idea that White is on the field more than the other backs. I'm not sold on McNichols making the squad but as has been pointed many times they could go with just 3 RB's and have one on the PS. The issue there is it may very well be White Bill and of course Fatman. Bill and Fatman however are not good or experienced in pass pro while Ford and McNichol are. Allen is not really an ideal 3rd down type back and so far, BIll is not either.

Fred Davis fall asleep… again?

Almost there!
