2026 Commanders Training Camp

Stupidest argument regarding training camp you’ll see today: someone on twitter tried telling me that because practice isn’t a game, and practice isn’t on TV, that it can’t be called football 😂😂😂

It's dumb. I get what I think they're trying to say. I've heard football players say that the preseason isn't "real football." I'm not sure I buy that either. I'm sure because there is less game planning and the starters only play a very limited amount, it can be described as a lower quality of football, but for darn sure, it is football.

Oh, he wasn’t referring to preseason, it was specifically practice (training camp practice) that he thinks can’t be called football, because it’s not a game that’s televised.

Basically he’s stupidly saying a game can be called football, but a practice can’t be can’t be called football.

Yeah, that's dumb. Practices are a part of football. Back in the Portis days, I used to get into arguments on ES about how Clinton needed to be part of team activities. Most of the board lined up against me saying he was a pro and it would be fine. I countered saying that it was important for players to build chemistry and timing. I still think I'm more right than wrong. There's a difference between "football" shape and "workout" shape. In Portis' specific case, he started every year a little slow as he worked himself into shape.

On a different note of the same scale, we have too many running backs. I wonder how many we keep and who or which two are the odd men out. I suspect the rook, Bill, and White are locks. Do we keep 4? I can't see 5.

I'm still fully in on JCM. He is by far the most explosive back on the roster, most explosive back we've had here in years. I'm shocked so many are down on him, pass pro is something few late round rookies excel at, he will get better. The fumbles were the only concern for me and that got a lot better.

I want to see Kaytron Allen before I agree with you. He's a tad slower than JCM, but he gets to the 2nd level very quickly and was a punishing back at Penn State. Guy is a sledgehammer who can break tackles. I don't know how you define 'explosive' though. I like his potential more than Bill's because I think he's got a major leg up when it comes to vision and determining where to hit the hole.

It's not that we don't like Bill, he proved to be a good back. He must hold onto the ball and absolutely must get better at pass pro or there wont be much play time for him. Protecting Jayden is essential and White, Ford and McNichol are capable in protection. He can't just get a pass on protection in passing downs because he is young. FIngers crossed he works his ass off on this

I am hoping Allen becomes our solid short yardage/goal line guy and learn to play on teams while to expand playtime
 
I really like the potential of our RB room. The two youngsters need to grow in terms of pass pro, blocking, and receiving, but I think that's the case for most college RBs. We have some talent there.

Bill acknowledged this. In fact, when asked in an interview about what he was working on in the offseason, the thing he listed that he needed to get better at was pass pro. I don't know how much you can practice/hone your pass pro skills outside of team practices, but I think we will see a jump.
 


That sounds pretty eery doesn’t it…..kinda makes one wonder if he’s in some hot water or something, right? And 2 days before training camp begins. Yikes.

Dude was hired this offseason and managed to get fired before training camp...would love to know what he ef'd up 😆
 
I think with JCM it isn't a case of being in on him or not, it is more about what his long term role turns out to be. He is explosive and has good field vision so I am thinking he has attributes that will keep him on most rosters for at least a handful of years before wear & tear possibly mess with those features, but whether he will ever establish himself as a feature back or even number two RB remain to be seen based on the things he needs to get better at. He is definitely the kind of explosive weapon that an already good RB room can use for a championship run. Using him in big moments, especially against tired defenses in the second halves of games to put a lead out of reach for an opponet.
 
None of the beat folks noticed we didn’t have a TE coach at minicamps? Surprising
 
Wide receiver depth chart and center depth chart are incredibly difficult to look at.

It would suggest he’s reporting it now, today. Nobody said anything at the time, and that’s a major absence that at the time wouldn’t have been controversial to just mention in passing. He was a new hire though and it’s possible none of the beat folks had ever met or talked to him yet, and literally just didn’t notice
