What's for Dinner?

Yeah, I wondered if Mexican flavors might work well just because many of them contain corn. How about some kind of twist on Mexican street corn... no idea how that would work but

Yep. That brings up an option I didn't even mention : Seasonings.
The right combo of seasonings can transform anything.

But you're onto something, with the Mexican idea and corn being a staple of Mexican cuisine
Or even something Tex-Mex

Oh and I put eggs (scrambled or boiled) into just about anything.
That would definitely complement the popcorn thing

Looking for input & ideas for a new, but "partial" idea I had.
It recently occurred to me that one could make an amazing dish, with hot, freshly-popped popcorn.
Not a dessert. But a main meal.

Basically the idea is to pop the corn, and immediately spread it evenly into a large pan.
Then top it or mix it with other ingredients, that will enhance the popcorn taste and texture.
Obviously not any liquid, or it would make the popcorn soggy and ruin the idea.

And have whatever additional ingredients or even meat you add, have them ready as soon as the popcorn is popped, so the popcorn is still hot and the other ingredients are the proper temp too.
But I have a few ideas in my head. I just felt like others here could come up with some things that I hadn't thought of, to add to it.

Here is a popcorn site with some recipes. Most of them are snacks though but there is an Indonesian recipe and a mushroom crusted telopia recipe that look interesting.

Another idea I had is a dried slaw.

First of all, my whole life I have found Cole Slaw to be disgusting.

But my mom made a Dry Slaw version I never had before, and I went so nuts over it, I could have eaten an entire large salad bowl of it, at one time, for a meal.

I don't even like cabbage. But I couldn't even taste the dry cabbage in this, as there was so many other flavorings like sliced almonds, noodles, green onions.
And I can perfectly envision popcorn in it now.

Oh, Ashburn Dave MUSHROOM is another great addition I forgot.
It's another thing I love to put on just about anything

I'm very skeptical about incorporating popped popcorn into an entree... if someone can pull that off, they are a genius...

I am doing stuffed green peppers for dinner. I sort of love them, as simple a thing as they are, something I grew up eating. My wife will actually eat them as well which is always a plus. One adjustment I have made over the years in making them is to clean and blanch the peppers before stuffing them.

A popcorn-encrusted baked fish seems do-able, the way I envision it in my head.
I imagine it goin a little somethin like this :

* Bake fish with desired seasonings or marinade.
* Time it so that the fish is done baking at about the same time the popcorn is done popping.
* Put popcorn in a coffee grinder for a half second, just enough to reduce it to pieces a little smaller than the size of the original kernels.
* Evenly mix in parmesan cheese with the popcorn crumbs
* Lightly drizzle olive oil on the fish to help the popcorn crumbs adhere to the fish. Then carefully place the popcorn crumbs on the fish.
* Press it lightly with a large flat object like a spatula, to help the adherence
* Slide back into the oven, for about a minute or so, just long enough to re-heat everything without burning the popcorn or the fish
* When you pull it out, top it with whatever sauce or toppings you like, or eat it as is.

A friend of mine loves mixing grated Parmesan and crushed red pepper flakes to buttered popcorn. It's pretty good.

Sometimes he adds everything bagel seasoning that's not for me.

I love Cracker Jacks and Crunch & Munch for there are two other uses.

Here are two I read on:
  • Masa and Tortillas: Soaking, cooking, and grinding whole popcorn kernels can create masa dough for homemade corn tortillas and tamales.
  • Coating or Flour: Grinding plain popped kernels into a coarse powder to use as a crunchy crust for fried chicken.

I'm in Medellin and we are going to a fantastic Argentine steakhouse tonight

Dinner sounds great. How safe is it there?

I believe it's relatively safe, as Medellin is like a central medicine/science research region in Columbia, among other things but of course RedWolf can go in better detail than myself

Peel and eat shrimp along with some hushpuppies.

I am gonna experiment with the popcorn idea, to determine the burning point of popped corn.
Like, how long can it withstand a 300 degree oven temp without burning.
And whether or not it can handle going into a sautee pan of oil, and to what extent

I feel like your headed down this path.

Having traveled much of the world and seen a lot of the United States I find most cities to be the same. Every place is relatively safe unless you travel into a bad neighborhood late at night looking for drugs or something like that. With the exception of a few places such as Haiti.

It is very safe here in Medellin and you can walk around beautiful neighborhoods at 2:00 in the morning and not feel threatened. But also like every other city in the world you need to keep your head on a swivel. I've been to some terrible places in the United States, so we are not alone in regards to troubles.

Thanks, I appreciate the response. I always worry about the safety concerns if I hear of anyone traveling abroad.
