The 2027 Draft Thread

Any secondary players? 🤓
As Rick Astley said, it looks like Leonard Moore, Notre Dame, is the current class of the class.

He makes coverage look effortless. He actually looks like he's running the receivers routes for them at times. That tells you he very likely has strong film habits. He's 6-2, 195 and will probably be closer to 200 pounds at his draft weight and runs a projected mid 4.4 forty as well. He has 7 picks in two years, with a pick six. I think so far, my favorite thing about him is actually when he gets beat. He doesn't panic. He continues to use his eyes and gets back to his responsibility and usually still winds up in position to make a play on the ball. He's the guy at the moment for sure. Definitely a top 10 kind of player, might be top 5.

Chris Peal, Syracuse is another corner to keep an eye on. I'm a U guy, but SU is the closest major school to me so I'm always cheering for them to do well except against Miami. 6-1, 200ish pounds. Doesn't have the ball production you want - zero INTs in his three seasons. Two with UGA and one with Cuse. Last year with Cuse he had a forced fumble. He's fast. He is probably in the 4.3 range. Below is the clip of his strip if you want to see it. He communicates well on film, whether that is what the team wants or not is a different story. Having listened to some of their coaches in conversation and clinic, they give the impression that the kid is just waiting to break out. He spends a lot of time on the defensive left. He anchors and sheds relatively well in the run game, rallies well, can play man on crossers with speedy receivers and teams are in no hurry to test him.

Tennessee has another solid corner, Boo Carter, that you should keep an eye on. Not much more to say, fast. Good frame, but shorter at 5-11.

Ellis Robinson IV, Georgia is another potential top 10ish guy. 6-0 180ish, projected to be on the slower side as a 4.48. Aggressive on the run, I dislike HOW he tackles, but he's aggressive on the run. He has real solid ball skills (4 INT last year). He maintains his leverage and he does a real nice job staying on the hip of his declared receiver. He's real grabby. Needs to get that under control.

Kelley Jones, Mississippi State is another one to keep an eye on. Haven't watched much of him other than live, but he is a walking PBU. Had 11 in 2025.

Another I didn't watch a ton of but watching live stood out is Zabien Brown from Alabama. Google says he had two pick sixes last season - which doesn't shock me. He seems to love being in man-press, too.

As far as safeties:

KJ Bolden, from Georgia is probably THE guy. 6-0, 185 projected low 4.3 forty yard dash. 135 career tackles, 3 picks and a sack. Guy is real rangey. Sideline to sideline player with special teams experience blocking punts. Another Georgia DB in this class that tackles high, which I'm not a big fan of. He's versatile as a safety... can play box or post. Anticipates routes really well, good alley filler. Finds the football in the air. But he really needs to get better at securing tackles and running feet at contact.

Ty Benefield (Boise State, now LSU after transfer) was a guy I watched a little bit this past offseason. Had 105 tackles in 2025, 2 picks and a forced fumble. 6-2, 204, not sure what he's being projected to run at but I'd guess no slower than in the 4.4s. Lanky aggressive safety who uses his hips into contact and has long arms to help dislodge the ball.

Jaylen McClain, Ohio State is a guy to watch. Good tackler, you notice him watching this years trilogy of defense prospects. He gets himself near the ball at all times. Very instinctual. But he is allergic to actually making plays on the ball as far as turnovers are concerned. That will effect his draft status.

There's more guys - but just to get started here are some.

This is also a strong EDGE class, which I'll talk about in another post.

Leonard Moore, CB at Notre Dame, is a STUD. I suggest watching their game against Stanford last year - Stanford stubbornly kept trying to throw at him, and he just kept getting PBU’s. ND doesn’t normally shadow the other team’s WR’s, but he followed Makai Lemon around for most of that game, and held him to 2 catches for 28 yards.

Top 10 lock, and quite possibly top 5.

Hopefully we are picking 20’s or later.

Benefield is going to be a first rounder. Lane and the staff are over the moon with him and Seaton. Seaton will be another first rounder at tackle. He looks like an absolute monster lately. Dwarfs Will Campbell for example who looks like he never worked out a day in his life 😂

And then there is my favorite LSU prospect, Trey Dez Green who I expect to break some TE records this season. And I think he will be another first rounder elite top 5 TE in the NFL for the next decade.

So those are the 3 Tigers I have going first round next draft. Leavitt..maybe, but he’s coming off a lisfranc injury. Think he’s more a 3-4th round QB coming off that injury, but we shall see. Oh and maybe Princewill, the transfer from Ole Miss at Edge. Interested to hear your thoughts on him KDawg

Green is a human cheat code and I would be just fine if we went with him instead of a WR (he basically is a WR and TE in name only) he’s that good and he’s going to put up video game numbers under Lane. I honestly would’ve just thrown to him every time in the RZ. He’s a 6’7 athletic gazelle 😂 Lane’s face lights up every time he’s asked about Green in spring practice. He knows he has a special player. Him and Berry were really the only bright spots on an ABYSMAL LSU offense.

I always find it interesting how vastly different the mocks and boards look this time next year. This thread is how I got far more into college football.

Do we have all of our picks next year because Google is saying that we are missing the 2nd and 4th next year also but I think that they are wrong correct
that was this year

Gotta give you my first sleeper pick. It’s my cousin’s kid, who went to West Point on the back of being all-state TE/DE, and all-state PF/C in basketball. Came into the academy as a 6’7” 245 lb TE, but after his sophomore season he moved to RT, and added 50+ lbs of muscle. He started at RT all last season, and got better each game.

Talked with my cousin a while yesterday, and he said that Teddy knew he could go into the portal, and move to a big time program, but decided that he had made the commitment to Army, and he was going to honor that. He is also a top student studying chemical engineering. Great kid, great athlete, with serious potential as he continues to learn his new position.

Teddy Williams may just get a look see in the later rounds, and my cousin assures me that the academy has already told them he can get a deferment of service if he does make the NFL grade. Be fun to watch regardless.

So, my way too early ranking for 2027. This is all going to change most likely. And I haven't watched every prospect, so this is just an initial list of guys I've watched a little bit of.

Non-Quarterbacks:
1. Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State - He might be the best overall prospect in a draft class since Megatron as a receiver
2. Leonard Moore, CB, Notre Dame - Smooth, runs routes for receivers, corrects mistakes with calm and logic, good size.
3. Collin Simmons, Edge, Texas - Burst, edge setting, power, speed, hustle.
4. Dylan Stewart, Edge, South Carolina - one of the best get offs I've ever seen in my life. He routinely has his first step into the ground before anyone else on the field even moves.
5. Trevor Goosby, T, Texas - Absolute tone setting mauler.
6. David Stone, DT, Oklahoma - This guy is an absolute specimen - gets off the ball like an edge but plays on the interior. Fast, explosive and destroys centers and guards. Can play anywhere on a DL.
7. Suntarine Perkins, Edge, Ole Miss - All gas, no brakes.
8. Jordan Seaton, T, LSU - He has a lot to prove as a tackle prospect coming from Colorado - but the hype is with him. Has the prototypical size and everything you want.
9. Cam Coleman, WR, Texas - High end prospect who is making the move from Auburn to Texas - has everything you want in a receiver, needs to put it together to keep stock high
10. Ellis Robinson IV, CB, Georgia - Not sure he declares, good frame, plays the ball well.
11. KJ Duff, WR, Rutgers - 6-6, 225 absolute monster. Contested catches are routine. Long wing span and catch radius. Can run a fairly diverse route tree.
12. Ty Benefield, S, LSU - He has every tool you want. 6-3, 208. Good tackler, plays the ball, post safety. He's under the radar for some reason. But won't be soon.
13. KJ Bolden, S, Georgia - Low missed tackle rate, all over the field, playmaker
14. Jamari Johnson, TE, Oregon - Overall, I think he's better than Saadiq. Can play in-line, big slot, can block, can run. I think it's a lock he's a top 20 pick this upcoming year.
15. Justin Scott, DT, Miami - Tone setter.
16. Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, LB, Notre Dame - He is the run eraser at linebacker. Gap plugging, electric, rangey.
17. Carter Smith, G, Indiana - He's a tackle for them, but he has a major holding problem. Kicking him inside should help. Great movement, body positioning.
18. AJ Holmes, DT, Texas Tech - Good athleticism, stout. Isn't necessarily an explosive guy, but moves well, plugs the gap and can rush the passer. Sometimes gets stuck on blocks.
19. Cayden Green, G, Mizzou - Great anchor, moves relatively well, has the size and speed. Needs some work on hand positioning.
20. Matayo Uiagalelei, Edge, Oregon - Has the tools. Would have been a fairly high ranked edge this last draft. 11th in pressures in P4.
21. Damon Wilson II, Edge, Miami - Transfer from Mizzou - at times he looks like he's shot out of a cannon. Will need to prove he can stand in the shadow of Bain/Mesidor to keep stock high.
22. Nick Marsh, WR, Indiana - Michigan State transfer. Has everything you want in a receiver except consistency. Has to reduce drops. But if he puts everything together he could be WR2. And that's saying alot.
23. Chris Peal, CB, Syracuse - This is all projection. He hasn't had any incredible years - but I think it's coming. He is a shut down corner that needs some ball production this upcoming season.
24. Jackson Bennee, CB, Utah - Needs to improve tackling, but is a position versatile DB. He plays mostly nickel, box safety but has also played deep safety.
25. A'Mauri Washington, DT, Oregon - Freak athlete

Quarterbacks:
1. Arch Manning, QB, Texas - Has the traits, plus unlike his uncles he's mobile. I wouldn't have put him 1 if I was guessing his ranking mid season. But his end of year performance has me thinking he is best in class.
2. Justin Sayin, QB, Ohio State - Doesn't need to declare, and I'm not sure I do if I'm him unless he winds up top 3. I think with Jeremiah Smith and Chris Henry, Jr he has a chance to do that.
3. LaNorris Sellers, QB, South Carolina - 6-3 240 that runs a 4.5ish 40 with a monster arm. He will be above the games played line for successful NFL QBs. He takes a ton of sacks. But the athletic profile will be tough to pass.
4. Darian Mensah, QB, Miami - A bit under the radar, but he helped Duke win an ACC title and has ridiculous talent around him at the U. Another really good athlete with high end QB traits.
5. Dante Moore, QB, Oregon - I know. He was supposed to be QB2 this year... but I'm just not sold on him. He makes too many mistakes in clutch moments for me. But it's hard to deny the talent.
6. Jayden Maiava, QB, USC - Can make every throw when he plays technically. Doesn't always do that.
7. Sam Leavitt, QB, LSU - Transfer from Arizona State. Roll out killer. Fits the spread NFL style of offense.
8. Trinidad Chambliss, QB, Ole Miss - Would have been QB2 this year. This QB class is extremely deep. With another great year I wouldn't be surprised to see him move way up this list.
9. CJ Carr, QB, ND - Media likes him more than I do so far. And I'll leave it there.
10. Drew Mastemaker, QB, Oklahoma State - Have to see it somewhere other than North Texas

We keep hearing about how great the 27 draft is going to be.

I must admit, my first true glance at all the top prospects and I am a little underwhelmed. I mean there are a bunch of potentially good QB's, Smith, DB's and a few others sprinkled in but I'm not overly excited with the group at this point. I know, it is too early but I normally get a decent positive feel. In fairness, I glossed over OL, Edge, RB and LB

There are some absolute monsters at edge. OL, for OTs, looks strong. This class is going to be good… but I think some of the underclassmen won’t declare due to the amount of talent.

Interesting, I knew Simmons is a killer but didn't realize there were others that good. I did see some OT's some may being better off moving inside. If some of those QB's have good years the top 10 of the draft could be crazy. Outside of that it doesn't feel really strong at this point to me. Look forward to digging into this thread down the line

Simmons isn't even necessarily the consensus #1 Edge. Dylan Stewart is a guy to keep an eye on. Suntarine Perkins is tremendously underrated, imo. Damon Wilson, Uiagalelei. Edge is stacked.

Tackle is quieter, and some tackle guys do project better to guard. But Seaton, if he develops, is a big time tackle prospect. Goosby is underrated.

I think DT is going to be sneaky good in this class, too.

Updating this list a bit. Added some guys (Will Echoles, Andrew Sprague, John Henry Daley, Nate Frazier, Faletau Satuala, Clev Lubin, Rasheem Biles). Moved Stone above Goosby.

1Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State - He might be the best overall prospect in a draft class since Megatron as a receiver

8Jordan Seaton, T, LSU - He has a lot to prove as a tackle prospect coming from Colorado - but the hype is with him. Has the prototypical size and everything you want.
9Clev Lubin, Edge, Louisville - I hadn't paid any attention to him until recently... and this guy is outstanding. Shedding triples, bursting past OTs, moves well. One to keep an eye on.
10Cam Coleman, WR, Texas - High end prospect who is making the move from Auburn to Texas - has everything you want in a receiver, needs to put it together to keep stock high
11Ellis Robinson IV, CB, Georgia - Not sure he declares, good frame, plays the ball well.

14Will Echoles, DT, Ole Miss - Versatile DT, plays some nose at Ole Miss but I think he's more of a 3-tech. Strong at the point of attack, anchors well. Plays run and pass well.
15KJ Bolden, S, Georgia - Low missed tackle rate, all over the field, playmaker
16Jamari Johnson, TE, Oregon - Overall, I think he's better than Saadiq. Can play in-line, big slot, can block, can run. I think it's a lock he's a top 20 pick this upcoming year.

20AJ Holmes, DT, Texas Tech - Good athleticism, stout. Isn't necessarily an explosive guy, but moves well, plugs the gap and can rush the passer. Sometimes gets stuck on blocks.
21Andrew Sprague, OT, Michigan - I mean, the guy is 6-8, 315. Excellent in pass production, want to see more in the run game. I actually think his height plays against him there. But a guy to watch.
22Cayden Green, G, Mizzou - Great anchor, moves relatively well, has the size and speed. Needs some work on hand positioning.
23Matayo Uiagalelei, Edge, Oregon - Has the tools. Would have been a fairly high ranked edge this last draft. 11th in pressures in P4.
24Damon Wilson II, Edge, Miami - Transfer from Mizzou - at times he looks like he's shot out of a cannon. Will need to prove he can stand in the shadow of Bain/Mesidor to keep stock high.
25Nick Marsh, WR, Indiana - Michigan State transfer. Has everything you want in a receiver except consistency. Has to reduce drops. But if he puts everything together he could be WR2. And that's saying alot.
26Rasheem Biles, LB, Texas - Transfer from Pitt. Had a productive '25 with 101 tackles, 17 TFL, 4.5 sacks. He is disruptive as hell. Athletic. Three career picks... All returned for touchdowns.
27Chris Peal, CB, Syracuse - This is all projection. He hasn't had any incredible years - but I think it's coming. He is a shut down corner that needs some ball production this upcoming season.
28Jackson Bennee, CB, Utah - Needs to improve tackling, but is a position versatile DB. He plays mostly nickel, box safety but has also played deep safety.
29A'Mauri Washington, DT, Oregon - Freak athlete
30John Henry Daley, Edge, Michigan - Utah transfer. Production monster, but has a low number of starts. We will see what he truly has in the tank this year. Also had an achilles injury last year.
31Nate Frazier, RB, Georgia - Good speed and keeps his feet on contact. Needs to improve pass protection and ball security
32Faletau Satuala, S, BYU - Ballhawk safety, seems to have a lot of the tools. I'd like to see a bit more from him as it pertains to foot speed. But he always seems to be in position to make a play in run and pass.
Quarterbacks:
1Arch Manning, QB, Texas - Has the traits, plus unlike his uncles he's mobile. I wouldn't have put him 1 if I was guessing his ranking mid season. But his end of year performance has me thinking he is best in class.

Oh Perkins is very intriguing especially his coverage skills but a bit light. I'll be watching him this season to see how they use him and figure the ways of using him in the pros.

Updated rankings. Added some guys. Switched some spots. Also have positional rankings going.

Some notes:

Ahmad Hardy and Isaac Brown are really good prospects, but this RB class (that I've seen so far) doesn't really participate much in the receiving game. Which is a bit of a detriment in modern day football. But... that can change.

I really like Ben Roberts and I am really intrigued to see what he will do this year. He and Jacob Rodriguez both had 4 picks last year... Rodriguez was more productive, but Roberts was all over the field, too. And will be their leader this year. I looked at his stats and... I can't confirm based on the way college stats are done and haven't watched all of the games but one site showed he had 38 PDs? Wow. He is very involved in the pass game, so it could be accurate.

David Stone is incredible. I keep watching him. I think he's going to be really, really good.

Ellis Robinson... I think will be moving down soon but I just haven't done it yet. We'll see.

1Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State - He might be the best overall prospect in a draft class since Megatron as a receiver
2Leonard Moore, CB, Notre Dame - Smooth, runs routes for receivers, corrects mistakes with calm and logic, good size.

22Ben Roberts, LB, Texas Tech - Unsure where to put him, but this guy is very good. 275 career tackles, 7 forced fumbles, 1 sack, 5 INT. This guy is a coverage linebacker that can do everything. Only concern is taking on bigger guards. This guy is really, really good.
23Matayo Uiagalelei, Edge, Oregon - Has the tools. Would have been a fairly high ranked edge this last draft. 11th in pressures in P4.
24Keon Sabb, S, Alabama - 6-1, 205 - ball hawk, ball production safety that can play either post or box. My lone concern is I'm not sure how fast he actually is.
25Cayden Green, G, Mizzou - Great anchor, moves relatively well, has the size and speed. Needs some work on hand positioning.
26Damon Wilson II, Edge, Miami - Transfer from Mizzou - at times he looks like he's shot out of a cannon. Will need to prove he can stand in the shadow of Bain/Mesidor to keep stock high.
27Andrew Sprague, OT, Michigan - I mean, the guy is 6-8, 315. Excellent in pass production, want to see more in the run game. I actually think his height plays against him there. But a guy to watch.
28Rasheem Biles, LB, Texas - Transfer from Pitt. Had a productive '25 with 101 tackles, 17 TFL, 4.5 sacks. He is disruptive as hell. Athletic. Three career picks... All returned for touchdowns.
29Austin Siereveld, T, Ohio State - Better in pass than run (A common theme today). Has good discipline, has played 800+ snaps and just 2 penalties.
30Chris Peal, CB, Syracuse - This is all projection. He hasn't had any incredible years - but I think it's coming. He is a shut down corner that needs some ball production this upcoming season.
31Ahmad Hardy, RB, Mizzou - Size, speed, vision, power. I think he's the best back in this class based on watching college ball last year and what I've seen so far. Tough to tackle. Plays a little like Jonathan Taylor. But he is very one dimensional right now. 3000 career rushing yards, 94 receiving. I'd like to see that number improved.
32Isaac Brown, RB, Texas - Transfer from Louisville. Dealt with some injuries last year. In 22 games he has 2k rush yards, 200 receiving (I'd like to see that improve) and averages 7.7 yards per carry. If he can improve receiving ability and keeps anywhere near the ypc for Texas, he can compete to be the top back in class. Need to see him healthy and do it, though.
33Jaylin McClain, S, Ohio State - A true post safety that can cover ground, tackle be disruptive. One thing that stands out is that he is very good in breaking plays up, but he doesn't have ball production.
34Jackson Bennee, CB, Utah - Needs to improve tackling, but is a position versatile DB. He plays mostly nickel, box safety but has also played deep safety.
35A'Mauri Washington, DT, Oregon - Freak athlete
36John Henry Daley, Edge, Michigan - Utah transfer. Production monster, but has a low number of starts. We will see what he truly has in the tank this year. Also had an achilles injury last year.
37Faletau Satuala, S, BYU - Ballhawk safety, seems to have a lot of the tools. I'd like to see a bit more from him as it pertains to foot speed. But he always seems to be in position to make a play in run and pass.
38Ryan Williams, WR, Alabama - He was supposed to be right alongside Jeremiah Smith, but he just hasn't played at that level. At times, he was overshadowed by teammates. He is here based on talent. If he puts it together he could be a top 15-20 guy. But for now I'm ranking him here.
39Mark Fletcher, RB, Miami - I think he can compete for best back in this class. But as a Miami fan I am ranking him conservatively to account for bias. He's another that I'd like to see improve his receiving ability, and he has moments that make you scratch your head. But when the game is on the line, he shows up and dominates. Sonny Styles missed one tackle last year - it was Mark Fletcher that ran through him.
40TJ Moore, WR, Clemson - Intermediate and deep route guy, outside receiver, good size not great, goes quiet and struggles against press. Good body control. REAL young.
41Charlie Becker, WR, Indiana - He's kinda slow, but this guy has glue for hands. Every big moment, he seems to be getting the ball for Indiana. Will need to show consistency there but he has a real chance to move up draft boards.
42Nate Frazier, RB, Georgia - Good speed and keeps his feet on contact. Needs to improve pass protection and ball security
43Terrance Carter, Jr, TE, Texas Tech - Great route runner, good hands and YAC, shows up when it matters. Terrible blocker, not great size.

Love this jump start KDawg !

I became a fan of Ben Roberts this year while watching his now pro teammates. He is solid and will be watching him over the year. I can't believe what the Texas Tech program has done over thee past couple of years.

If Villamu-Asa is able to return to form or better, he is going to be a monster. Those two ACLs are going to scare teams even if he returns to dynamo form.
