The 2026 Draft Thread - Day 2

I wonder if such a deep LB class makes them go another (more instant impact) direction at 7, betting that they can get a guy they really like at 71.

This is the Day 2 thread so the important part of this post is regarding the depth at LB…seems a realistic round 3 target

It really makes the trade back even make more sense as they can attack other needs hard in FA. Then it's just sprinkle in the talent as needed or as the draft falls and the more day 2 and early day 3 picks the better

Golday is a heck of an athlete. I haven't watched but I don't get the sense he was as physical as Leo Chanel. Cory Kinnan said in his 7 seasons of analyzing drafts, Chanel and Arvell Reese are the two most physical offball LB's he has analyzed in his film review of Reese's game against Illinois. So I am not sure he will fully bring that element of Chanel's game to the team that drafts him.

Chenal is an odd one. He played college ball at 260-265, them slimmed down to 250 for the combine. He's listed at 250 for the Chiefs, but NFL teams aren't required to list accurate weights so players often say if they want it updated and most don't bother. In all likelihood, he's a bigger guy than half of the Edge rushers in this draft.

If we go after him in FA, I'm pretty curious what Jones's vision is for Chenal.

In their evaluation, Cory and James reached a consensus on Rodriguez’s lack of physiciality. Rather than meeting ball carriers downhill, he tends to wait behind the line of scrimmage, opting to dodge offensive linemen rather than engaging them in the hole. Furthermore, when blockers climb to the second level, Rodriguez struggles with disengaging; he lacks the pop in his hands required to stun opponents and cannot consistently disengage once reached by an OL or TE. While he is a reliable coverage asset with the instincts to shoot open gaps and accumulate tackles, his ceiling in run defense is capped. If you are looking for a violent, downhill thumper who can take on blocks at the line of scrimmage, he will likely disappoint. I think it just depends on the requirements of your defense. In a defense that keeps him clean his lack of physicality probably not a siginificant issue.

I just rewatched his game versus Arizona State. I saw him shed tackles. He's good at working his way through the trash IMO versus getting lost in the trash -- if that's their definition of dodging offensive linemen, cool, but I am fine with it. I agree as far as stunning players with his tackles, he gets them down but its not a highlight pop version of it. Good open field tackler.

And he might not be a bad athlete, will see soon. He looks to me average on that front, not great, not bad. But his play recognition skills look strong, always around the ball, looks fluid when back peddiling, and he makes plays on the ball, picks, forced fumbles, sacks, etc.

I have not watched him, so cannot write from personal observation, but they were in agreement on that point and they watch 4 or 5 games for each prospect (and they don't always watch the same games) from the all 22 just watching that prospect so I think there is likely something there, even if its not as obvious as I am imagining it.

He is a movable parts type of player, versatile in different areas. I'd say that would be the intent with him seeing some time at Edge and coverage and blitzing as a backer

I got to get to watch him, I've loved what I've read about him

Everyone keeps saying trade back - but for who and how far? Do we really want to take ourselves out of Downs, Love, Styles range because we hope someone is going to be available a bit later?

What first rounders do we covet in the 10-20 range?

I could see Faulk.

Since this is the day 2 thread I’ll also add this:

I have no idea why this is in bold btw… I can’t turn it off on my phone… anyways…

Kyle Louis is a guy I hope is there. Rodriguez and Trotter are two more.

Outside the top 10, there is no one I am pounding the table for.

I wouldn't mind Faulk but he feels like a project, though I'd roll the dice on the project considering his age, but I am not excited about him just yet.

For me a trade down is probably for the next group of WRs: Boston, Lemon, Tyson. I'd need to get a really good deal though because potentially in that 7 range: Downs, Love, Styles, maybe Delane could be difference makers and the team lacks those great to elite guys.

I’m not excited about trading back for Faulk, either. And I like him.

Passing on a blue chip guy to draft non blue chippers makes me a bit uneasy.

I do think it’s possible Lemon is there.

The issue is what are we trading back for in the 10-30 range AND what do we want in rounds 2/3? I’m not sure there’s a whole lot that gets me as excited as the potential of Downs, Styles, Love or Delane.

Agree, I am on the same page.

Plus is there a team over the last two decades or so with less elite-great players? If you can draft a special player, take them. At this point, I'd rather have a great player then a combination of a good and decent player.

The two 2024 games I watched for Faulk were uninspiring. He did have splash plays like a half dozen of them over the two games but they were all against the run (things like tackles for a loss or at the line of scrimmage). His pass rush just was not exciting. His pass rush is built on power (speed to power, bull rush) with only occasional counters or pass rush plan for when the power stalls and the power stalled a lot. If the foundation was power it was pretty average. And theree was little on top of the foundation. I feel like its easier to develop the pass rush plan off the power, they can teach him to throw in a pass rush move right as the power stalls, but that still leaves an average foudnation.

Yeah I've watched him too, not impressed with his pass rushing prowess and have commented on it here. i don't mind him as a project, 20 years old, good run stopper, supposedly out of this world strength.

Zion is a baller, not sure about his twitch, today should be interesting.

I view him as a 3-4 DE here who will get to go up against guards. What do you think of him in that role?

Actually beginning to see Zion mocked in the bottom of the 1st round now. He has done well for himself over the past month or two

3-4 DE he's the prototype, not blown away by any aspect of his pass rushing but love how he shed blocks and his motor as to stopping the run.
