The HC Dan Quinn Discussion Thread

Some of our fans are just ok with mediocrity. It’s sad. Harbaugh is there for the taking. You’d think after 30 plus years of not being relevant and terrible coaching/roster decisions our entire fanbase could see clearly how this story ends with Quinn. He isn’t the answer.
I would be extremely surprised if we move on from Quinn.

Not because I don't think we should (I don't really have a horse in the race, but firing both coordinators moved me from Quinn should be here to "if we're resetting then we should reset")...

But because I just don't see it being a move Peters would make. It's entirely too aggressive from what we've seen from him so far.

We'll see!

I’m not surprised, he’s a great coach.

I’m just shocked the Ravens let him go. He’s won a Super Bowl, coach of the year, .600 career record, and they were a missed field goal away from winning the division this year. Maybe they’ve been so good for so long they forgot how good they had it.

The Ravens were 14-3 a couple of years ago and hosting the AFC title game.

This year they lost to a Pittsburgh team that really had no business being in the playoffs.

While Harbaugh does have an excellent record you can make the argument that after so many years at the helm of one team that perhaps it was time to start over after missing the postseason.

It has happened to a lot of coaches. Even Belichick ended up with a sub. 500 team that needed to be rebuilt by others.

Fresh scenery like Andy got in KC, maybe it'll rejuvenate Harbaugh. Things can grow stale

Even though it was cool that Marty bounced back from the bad start and ended up 8-8. Dan, we just learned that Steve Spurrier is available. Time to move on.

Funny, but the analogy doesn’t work. DQ’s team did not bounce back, they fell off, and Harbaugh has an NFL pedigree the ol’ ball coach couldn’t even dream.

Lamar Jackson at 30 is slowing down and his body is breaking down due to all the carries and hits by the defense.

This happens to ALL of the dual threat quarterbacks if after their first few seasons in the NFL they don't mature into more traditional pocket passers that use their feet as an escape hatch rather than a staple of the offense.
This is very true. This is a pass first league and the best QB only use their feet when necessary and to mainly escape the rush. The running QBs life span is limited and history has not been good. Lamar is built much better than JD and JD has taken some serious hits with his thin frame. These type of QBs (at least relatively recently) can show flashes during the seasons, even can win an MVP, but from Vick to RGIII to Lamar to JD, they have not won a single SB. It's always the pass first QB. JD may have a winning season here and there, but if our end goal and expectation is to win a SB, the odds are stacked against him. It may not be a popular opinion, but it is unfortunately true :( 🙏

I remember when Matthew Stafford used to scramble quite a bit and take a beating in Detroit. Ultra competitive guy and he had some very good talent around him. Luckily for him he did mature into a pocket passer and was able to extend his career to the point he is 37 and still taking teams to the playoffs.

The reason I wanted to see Kliff go is he wasn't really thinking about the long-term success of Daniels or the Commanders, all he was doing was taking advantage of an asset and trying to ride Daniels to a big job somewhere else as a HC.

That seemed pretty obvious to me.

Stafford has always been a statue. He was never not a pocket passer, he just got less reckless around the LOS

You know, I am not going to complain if we fire him, honestly. We have seen we did not make progress from last year. Yes, the bar was set pretty high, but keep in mind, he is a defensive HC and both years, our defense has actually regressed from mid-tier performance from last year to even worse this year. There was a league's learning curve with JD's playing style. This year, teams figured them out and we saw the result. In addition, this is NFL. We do not owe anyone anything, and it should be like this. Look at Philly after they fired Andy Reid. Yes, Reid won SBs with KC, but Philly are not looking bad either, They won their own SB. If DQ is not the answer, we need to cut our losses and move on. People vouching for another year will be calling for his head mid-season if we played the way we played this year (another wasted year). We lost this season, our roster is a mess, even with older player. Besides JD, we need improvements all over the team. We gave away picks instead of building organically, although Tunsil has been good. We need younger players who can build the identity of this team. We have no identity right now. Last year hid lots of issues around the roster. If this continues, Peters will be on hot seat as well for me.

It's a conversation with it seems like 10 or so people here. It's not a conversation with anyone covering the team or any national reporter. There is not even a subtle hint that Quinn's job is in jeopardy.

There are one year wonders. And then there are guys that have EVERYTHING go wrong during a particular season and that turns out to be the outlier.

I am not yet convinced that Quinn is a failure here.

I think the organization after 2024 doubled down on some unfortunate decisions to bring older players back and maintain continuity instead of continuing to churn talent and look to upgrade and get younger and faster on the fly.

But Peters and Harris HAD to be part of that discussion, Quinn didn't make these decisions on his own.

Instead of bringing back guys Daniels likes or a guy like Sam Hartman who plays pool with Daniels but has absolutely no NFL talent, the team needs to explain to #5 that the NFL is about winning, plain and simple.

The fact Hartman couldn't get on the field when Mariota went down and we were left with a 39 year old quarterback who hadn't won a game in a decade he started to that point made things painfully clear.

This is what we want from Harris.

The message loud and clear that a bad year is unacceptable. NEVER (to quote Dan). No bad seasons.

We want Harris to strike some fear in future hires that he doesn't give a rats ass about what happened the season before. 1 strike and you are out. This message will attract the best and the brightest moving forward across the board.

It will help the new hires to attract the best assistants too, yeah you might be one and out with the HC whenever adversity hits, but the pressure to excel will bring out their best.

And just like it is with any marriage if someone more attractive pops up in your life, dump your spouse. Ditto in the head coaching reign, if you find someone more attractive move on. No explanations needed.

Also, if fans want heads to roll and don't buy context as a reason for a down year, cater to them, they know best. The highs and lows of fans emotions should dictate Harris' actions.

This makes it sound like Daboll might be the front runner.

If the only knock on him was that he lets his quarterback run, then I would be happy, we should definitely let Jayden run.

I’m a little worried about how bad his Giants teams were, but maybe he is better as a coordinator than a head coach?

Grant said on his daily show today that he checked in with a bunch of people over at Ashburn and Daboll's name was mentioned multiple times. It does lead you to believe Daboll is the "front runner".

It happened to our QB after one season.....

Keim seemed a bit skeptical.

Me, too. I can't think of a coach who is more centered on having a QB with running ability to run and run and run like Daboll.

Yes I mean, isn't his handling of Dart and all his head dings the final reason for his firing

I know.
