The first Jayden Daniels Super Bowl window has shut. Hard.

Just to continue this thought, if the team had recognized the severity of Terry's quad injury and put him on IR think about how much bad blood would have been spared. All the dark thoughts would have been off the table about why this is taking so long or whether this was proof that his age made him fragile and in decline, or whether he was milking the injury because he was still mad at the team because of the way the contract was handled.

Maybe in the cases of JD5 and Terry the team was just too optimistic, but in both cases IR may have served the player, the team, and public perception better.

Great point, Ron was stuck on Ron. So strange because you'd only expect this from someone really dense or a narcissist He doesn't come off as either.

Ron is a nice guy but I don't think he came off super self aware. Quinn seems very self aware.

In one of Quinn's more recent press conferences, I posted it, he came off 100% on top of the idea that they need to aggressively address somethings this off season so a season like this never happens again.

If all of this went down with Ron he'd be saying to death its all about the injuries. I don't recall Quinn once using that as excuse.

I have confidence that Quinn won't repeat the same mistakes. I was just listening to Finlay's podcast where they among many others talked about how camp was distinctly lighter than 2024. I was listening to a PFF guy who is a fan of the team and studied Jayden tlak about how Jayden is a reps-rythmn guy and they need to play him in the preseason unlike last year. All the red flags were there in the preseason. The offense couldn't move the ball in camp. According to NE reporters, the Patriots kicked Washington's ass in their joint practice and then followed to kick their ass in the game.

Hyperbole to make a point again on my end -- but it felt they were sleepwalking through the summer. And then you add the overhang of the Terry contract. Then you add Jayden had no reps with his top two receivers. On and on.

Do I think injuries was the main reason why the season fell apart? Heck yes. I think all this other stuff made it worse. But if they had normal health, I think they'd have gone something like 9-8.

But to me if all they do is:

A. Add another WR weapon
B. Add two edges with one being a high end player
C. Hire a good D coordinator
D. Don't treat camp-preseason as a glorified walk through so they are fresh for a playoff run.

They are back at 11 wins or so.

I know some say they need a LB, safety, TE, CB and big players at all those spots. I think they will do some of that but not all of it, and IMO they don't need to do everything.

Quinn again in his pressor more or less acceded they made mistakes and they will learn from them and he comes off sincere.

The original post is pretty accurate. But I think we all need to slow our panic roll and realize, some *miscalculations*, blown opportunities, and some horrific luck on the injury front do not a generation of epic failure make.

We need a legit DC.
We need to shed most if not all of the old vets.
We need to bring in some serious free agency talent and stop bargain basement shopping.
And we need to try to obtain more draft picks.

We don't need to ship out the few marquee talents we have in a panic move.
We don't need to fire the GM or Head Coach or OC.
We don't need to give up on Jayden Daniels who clearly has the talent to be a franchise QB.

This year was a setback, not a disaster that will ruin our playoff chances for a decade to come.
This was so well done I wish I had written it.

Guys we won 12 games and won playoff games on the road in Tampa and in Detroit just a year ago. Jayden Daniels has proven he can take a team void of talent very far. If he can stay healthy and return to that form we are contenders, it's just that simple.

I would love a brand new DC and a totally different system. They have some cap space, although not nearly as much as people believe given the number of roster spots open and the inevitable Tunsil contract. So make some bold move in free agency, I agree no more bargain basement shopping. I'm fine with the strategy of bringing in aging vets on 1 year deals. The issue here was extending some of those players, don't do that. I don't want to trade back far in the first round, just find an impact player regardless of position.

I think the biggest false narrative about 2024 that didn't hold through 2025 is this team did more for Jayden than the other teams did for their young QBs as to the 2024 class. After two years, that narrative is absurd. The Bears who got mocked by the national media for not doing enough for Caleb in 2024 have done a ton more for him than this team has done for Jayden. lol, a dude like Noah Brown would be like the 6th WR with the Bears -- and this team treats him like some superstar that is worth risking his lack of play time because of perpetual injuries.

They need to stop this approach of we can give Jayden scraps and he will make a meal out of it. The Vikings, Bears, Falcons have much better talent around their 2024 drafted QB. NE too but by less of a margin than those teams IMO.

We got Malik Nabers on Instagram liking a post about look at who Jayden has to throw to. This team if they don't change their approach this off season will be lampooned again ala how they've been pre-2024 as the place you don't want to go to if you are a young QB.

I am not as down on Peters as some are. I think he's scored more hits than misses among his moves. But I got a big beef about how much he's putting on Jayden's plate.

Bravo for improving the O line. But you can walk and chew gum at the same time. The Bears for example loaded on BOTH the O line and weapons.

Having said that, I think this point is captain obvious at this juncture so I expect it to happen this off season. But if it doesn't, this team risks becoming the punchline of where a young QB doesn't want to go. IMO the narrative has flipped some from 2024 to 2025. You can use injuries as much of the excuse for this but Peters had no depth at WR so he can't be absolved from blame completely. He needs to take WR as seriously now as he took O line last year.

The good news is the O line is currently ranked #7 from PFF, and that's after a rough start so am guessing its been top 5 in the last half of the season. That's half the battle. Finish the rest now. And I do think they will do so.

A big part of my optimism about next season is on the aggregate again I like what I've seen and heard from Peters and Quinn and both stress that they learn more from their mistakes than success. Cool, they've both been given a plain as heck template for what not do to. And again, I do think injuries was by a mile the top issue. And they did some good things, too. But the mistakes IMO were glaring. And if dummies like me and some others here can call it during the summer -- am sure its plain as heck to them.

I think both got a bit arrogant and complacent last off season. Watching Quinn's press conferences its clear to me that he's VERY humbled by what happened and shocked by it -- and in a good way, he gives no excuses for it and accedes he needs to approach some things different next year. I am fascinated to see how Peters will act in his first press conference when the season ends -- hoping and expecting him to be equally humble.

Nice post SiP. I particularly agree that we have GOT to load up at WR and find a dangerous pass catching tight end. I don't want to hear 'Sinnott' because while of course it can take a few seasons for draftees to develop, I think if he were a dangerous TE we would know that already. We need to stock the WR room with legit serious talent and I don't care if we have to pay through the nose in Free Agency to do some of that. I don't know what they were thinking last offseason, knowing that the McLaurin stuff could go south, and that Deebo was a bit of an unknown in terms of what we were going to get out of him. They let the 2nd most productive WR we had (Zaccheus) walk for no apparent reason. his 40-50 catches would've helped quite a bit in 2025. But the bottom line is, a guy like Zaccheus should be your #5 or #6 WR - if he'd been here this season, he is probably #3 and challenging Deebo for #2. That's not going to cut it.

I have hope for the OL, but I am not currently as 'up' on them as others. We have struggled to open holes in the rush attack all season. I get that a lot of that is teams stacking the box because they don't fear our WRs, but it's still not been great for most of the season. We also make a lot of drive killing mistakes with unforced penalties. And we haven't been able to consistently protect Mariota or Jayden in 2025. I think with a year under his belt, Tunsil will get even better. Conerly Jr. has struggled some but overall you have to like his future potential. And of course Cosmi should be much better next season. But I still think we have work to do on the OL.

Last point - we forget... Adam Peters is only in his 2nd season as GM. Yes - he was a big part of things in San Francisco - but he wasn't the GM. This is his first time being 'the guy' responsible for it all. I still think he could prove to be a very good to great one. He just needs to continue learning. Quinn I am much more skeptical of.

They are middle of the pack in run blocking at least via PFF. But yeah they had a bad stretch earlier in the season when teams would crowd the box. But am feeling good about run blocking next year, too. Cosmi is typically good on both but is a better run blocker. Conerly so far better run blocker. Biadaz is about the same on both. Tunsil is a better pass blocker but has been a decent run blocker this year. The big one on this is Paul who is a very good pass blocker but is a below average run blocker. For his faults, Sinnott is a good run blocker. So on the aggregate IMO the run blocking is plenty good enough going forward.

Look at the Bears as to pass weapons. They drafted Odunze in 2024 in the first. Signed Deandre Swift. Signed Keenan Allen. For depth: G. Everett. Deandre Carter. And they already had D. Moore. Kmet. If you guys recall the concern in 2024 was the Commanders weren't all in on helping Jayden the way the Bears were with Caleb. But that point got flipped when it was clear Daniels had the better offensive coaching. But the premise that the Bears added more weapons to help Caleb was absolutely true. but it didn't stop there.

Then we go to 2025. Bears draft early Loveland. And Burden. First round and 2nd round. That's a team that isn't messing around. They sign two top guard and now they got a top O line, too. And they are the ones that ironically add Zacceheus for depth. And they got one of my fav RBs from that draft in Monangai. That team is LOADED on offense. Their defense isn't hot but at least they are a peg better than Washington's and create turnovers.

So on offense alone Jayden is outgunned as far as weapons compared to the other teams that took QBs that season -- forget the trash defense that Jayden has to overcome.

This all has to change. And I do think it will. Some hyperbole now on my end to make a point. I've said it before but it felt like the Zaccheus signing went to Peters head where he thought any scrap heap WR off the street can be the next Zaccheus. Watch KJ Osborn or Michael Gallup or Chris Moore excel for peanuts while those sucker teams are paying big money for their Z WRs. We got a bunch of nobodies including the discarded Noah Brown manning the Z spot for peanuts and watch them play as well or better than other teams 15-20 million WR -- ha!

The Bears for example went all hands on deck to help Caleb succeed. It felt like this team either out of Peters' arrogance than he can turn water into wine or they felt arrogant about Jayden turning water into wine. Whatever it was, it wasn't enough. And IMO this part of the team's crash at WR was obvious as hell, I talked about it among others well before the Titanic hit the iceberg.

And I do agree that Peters is still learning. So lol, even though my angst is obvious about some missteps. He does plenty good too and have taken some arrows defending Peters as well -- I guess where I am different than some of the Peters critics is that I don't think on the aggregate he's done a poor job. I think he's done somewhere from decent to good. Not great. But not bad either.

The frustrating thing to me about this last off season was it feels like he looked at it this way.

A. The O line had to improve.
B. WR could survive staying the same.
C. Pass rush had to improve but could survive staying the same
D. Secondary had to improve

He took on A and D. Succeeded IMO on A. Swung and missed at D. B. became weaker. C. Basically stayed the same, injuries made it worse.

But there was a ripple effect from all of this. WR being weaker effected Jayden's development and effected protection too. Pass rush being meh at best hurt the secondary.

Bottom line is while I don't expect every positon to be strong if the idea is to win a SB you need to surround your franchise QB with weapons. And its tough to have a good defense if you don't bring pressure. But I do think Peters gets this. Like I said Quinn and Peters were just giving one heck of a template of what not to do on some fronts. And I don't think they failed because they are incompetent. I think they failed in part for one reason that many upstart teams suffer from -- arrogance -- they came so far so fast, they were lauded to death for their success and I think that brought some complacency and lack of urgency that impinged on the season. I still though think if their injuries were just normal, they'd be something like 9-8. But I do think oddly if the idea is to win a SB, its actually better to have a full collapse because there is no ambiguity about what needs to be done.

I've been very critical of AP. And obviously the lack of WR depth was a huge mistake. But I have to kind of push back on the narrative that they did little to help their young QB. And yes you can walk and chew gum at the same time.

He made a huge investment in Tunsil to shore up the most important position on the OL, then they used their first round pick on a right tackle, traded more draft capital for Deebo Samuels, who gave them about what they expected I would think, and took a deep threat WR in the 4th round and a back with explosion and big play potential later in the draft. I know more was needed but you can't fix everything in one offseason, Caleb already had his weapons in place last offseason so they just had to address the offensive line. It's not like they did little, that's a lot invested in players specifically acquired to help their young QB.

I think most of us had concerned when we heard how soft camp was, I certainly wanted to see more of Jayden in the preseason. My concern is DQ saw all these injuries and may be even more afraid to push his players in preseason.

I posted mutliple times an article about how GB played their starters in preseason purposely to avoid injuries. According to studies they looked at, it helps to adjust bodies for physical contact so its not shocked when the season starts.

Considering how his soft camp didn't work including Jayden never finding a rthymn with his supporting cast because they weren't in camp -- and he didn't have the opportunity to play in the preseason with the scrub backups to develop a rythmn with them, I'd be surprised if he doubles down.

Quinn seemed to treat camp as some long walk through to rest players for a playoff run so they'd be fresh in December. I'd be surprised if he doubles down on it.

I think there a few here who have emphasized harder how much I like what he did on the O line, including in discussion with you if I recall.

I've debated you some about Peters and on the aggregate by a mile I am higher on him than you. So this is a departure lol where you take his side.

And just to make my position clear on Peters while I am clearly higher on him than you are. Mainly because if you dissect his actual moves, IMHO they were mostly good. I know you disagree.

Where I am far from in love with Peters was his overall vision for 2025. I think it lacked ambition, was somewhat half assed, arrogant and put too much pressure on Jayden. Was it all bad? Of course not, you know that lol from our own discussions.

As to this specific point. Even the team apparently somewhat agrees that they didn't go all in at WR. Keim now has said on multiple podcasts that he knows that they knew that they were thin at WR and knew the margin of error for it was thin. And he also said they were banking on Chris Moore, KJ Osborn or Michael Gallup to emerge.

Just look at what the Bears have done at TE and WR in the last two years compared to this team. I was specific about it but am tired of repeating it. It's not even close. It's a joke.

I like the Deebo trade more than some here do, I was just defending that trade yesterday. Good move. But its not enough. You let Dyami go. You let Zaccheus go. You don't bring back Crowder. That was your depth last season. All gone. All replaced with nothing players. then you ride with often injured Noah Brown as your Z with no net behind him or Terry. That's a joke.

If I wasn't a big fix O line guy for years, I'd be even more critical of Peters than you generally are. I give him an A for fixing the O line and most of that is because of his emphasis of it. I hated Ron not giving a rats behind about the unit and dismantiling it. I love Peters going all hands on deck to fix it. But I give him an F for WR. Not a C minus. Not a D. A total joke. A fat F.

Some hyperbole to make a point on my end. The only thing I can say nice about Peters at WR is I am gathering he thought his crap didn't stink that any Wr he grabbed off the street will be the next Zaccheus or Jayden was so good that he doesn't need top WRs. He was dead wrong. But at least there is some logic to it.

I was just listening ironically to Nicki from the Athletic on Standig's podcast. Standig asked her why did you think the season would go south? She predicted this summer a losing record. Her first point was the Wrs, you can see in camp these guys couldn't play (sans Terry and Noah who weren't in camp), offense looked lethargic. And she was shocked that none of it fazed the team and they didn't sign any WR in the summer.

I went to one camp practice myself and commented about how the Cbs locked down the Wrs, including lol one of the UDFA CBs. then we heard from the NE reporters how NE dominated the joint practice. Then they got dominated through most of the preseason. Yet, nada, no action.

If all Peters did is sign someone like Keenan Allen. A veteran who can run routes. I'd forgive him. But he did nothing. Just sign a dude or two that are competent even if not electric. In a vacuum it was nutty to trust Noah Brown as your Z. For starters, even if he was healthy, he's maybe at best a 4 type WR let alone a #2. But the dude can never stay healthy. And he was out during camp -- so the idea that the dude can't stay healthy, that whole script was playing out right in front of them and yet they did nothing.

When a reporter was asked this season why is Chris Moore still playing X considering his struggles, they said they asked a source with the team who told them he's the only backup on the roster who can properly run the X routes so they have no alternative.

Really pathetic and sad. And contrast that with the weapons the other 2024 Qbs have including better defenses -- double pathetic.

Having said that considering Keim said they knew they were risking it at WR. And its clear that risk blew up in their face. I got no fears they will double down on it.

Nabers, Jayden's pal, liked an instagram post that said look at who Jayden had to throw to this year. They don't want to be a punchline for this to be place not to go to if you draft a franchise QB. Peters flirted IMO with punchline status this season. I have though no fears it will happen again but as for 2025 it was a big swing and miss at WR.

A related point- I think the team was made confident by the ‘new’ defense’s seemingly vastly improved performance in camp (as pointed out by nearly every beat reporter). Turned out what it really signified was just how bad the offense was in regards to passing game talent.

I really can't fault the team's approach last offseason. They were a game away from the Super Bowl, the Jayden Rookie Contract Window was wide open so they made moves to make another run in 2025.

As you know I'm not a fan of AP's track record here, I was just pushing back on the narrative that they did little to help their young QB. They made a huge investments into the OL. they traded for Deebo who has been productive, and like me they thought someone from that list of vets would emerge. A player who can actually run correct patterns and provided the depth they were clearly lacking. It just didn't work out and you are right, they should have realized that earlier and made a move before breaking camp.

I now like, don't love their depth at WR but they need a stud Z IMO.

Just go back to before the 2024 season started and outside of the mumurs going around that Jayden Daniels was looking exceptional in camp, the experts were not hot on this team across the board, at all. There were a few predictions of looking respectable by the end of the season but it took a good amount into the season before the experts went from "oh hey this rookie QB is looking consistently good" to "oh hey, this team might make strides this season"

So for the media or press to change that narrative on a dime and act like the Commanders roster was best prepared to push a rookie QB across the finish line based on the 2025 season results? Gimme a break.

If you just zero in on Noah Brown as the Z. Uninspring to say the least. A dude like that probably doesn't even makes the Bears team let alone be counted on as your #2 starter. And the dude is never healthy. Wasn't even healthy during the off season. But somehow they thought it would work?

So Peters clearly thought Chris Moore, Michael Gallup and KJ Obsorn would be the next Dyami Brown, Crowder, Zaccheus. He was wrong. Is that unforgivable? No. the thing is they all had lousy camps. Moore was good in the minicamp but had a bad training camp. What's unforgivable to me is they just let the mistake ride.

So as Nicki from the Atlhletic said what was stunning is you can see the struggles in camp from this offense. And it was further seen in the joint practice. And they stunk in the preseason games, too.

And the answer for that was nothing. Nada.

No Deebo alone doesn't offset not having a legit healthy Z Wr and having no depth at outside WR. This coming from maybe Deebo's biggest fan here. As Nicki said and I agree they were worse at WR than last year.

I don't agree with you on much of your micro move by move negative assesment about Peters -- to me some of it is very wild. But what's not wild to me is how little Peters did to help Jayden as to the supporting cast. As to the O line, I've been somewhat leading the chorus on the point including to you so I don't need to be convinced or spit back some of the same points I've made on the subject. I've applauded Peters for it. A for O line. F for WR.
