This is the first year Daniels has missed any starts as a pro, after starting 20 games last year for us and only missing a couple quarters. He played the vast majority of his college games, over 90%?

This was a nightmare season all-around. No real reason to think this is a pattern until it is. People think because he’s thin he’s more injury-prone, so the confirmation bias kicks in now that he has indeed suffered some injuries.

But it’s a limited sample size and young players who last also learn how to protect themselves as they age. He needs to be less reckless, sure.

“Can only play on special occasions” has such a nasty tone to it. We’re all butt hurt over this season, it’s out of our control—but you don’t have to let it twist you into someone who types dumbass things, that is in your control. You’re throwing the equivalent of a temper tantrum saying things like this. It’s mean-spirited in a way, like you’re reveling in the situation. Sounds like someone who wants to be “right” about Daniels tbh. I was a Maye guy, I get the doubts once the cracks start to show in the guy we chose.

However, I tend to believe that there are magical forces out there that actually want this franchise to fail in a continuous cycle, in the most painful manner possible for the remaining fan base. Who would even conceive that these evil medical forces would bring RGIIII to us, then bring on a new savior and make him RG III (II). I can recall, being a season ticket holder and attending the first game in 2013 and a chants outside the stadium for RGIII. Our savior was returning triumphantly after a “magical” knee rehabilitation that took six months. But all was lost.

A very famous British intelligence officer once said “One time is happenstance, twice is coincidence, and three times is enemy activity.” The enemy here is the evil magical force that compels this never ending cycle of misery for our fanbase.

I can’t get on board with the magical thinking but if I could, it would make my life as a fan a lot easier because I’d be able to justify giving the team up under supernatural extenuating circumstances 🤣

I think the specter of seeing Patrick Mahomes go down with a gruesome knee injury and face a possible long rehab had the effect of bringing home the risks for Washington from Daniels playing out the string of meaningless games and potentially endangering 2026 with further injury.

I would not say Daniels is injury prone at this stage.

At least not in the sense that a Noah Brown is.

Brown cannot get on the field and take ANY hits. In fact he gets hurt in practice as well.

Daniels plays with a certain recklessness due to youth but also by the stats you have an OC that ran the qb on more first down called runs than any other team.

Gibbs always made protecting the quarterback his top priority.

I don’t see the same perspective from Kingsbury and his boss Quinn.

Quinn has been much too slow to react and make changes on both sides of the ball with coaches.

Whitt and Kingsbury have been operating with what seemed like a greater degree of independence than was deserved or earned.

Because one season does not a career make.

Is Daron Payne a great DT because he had one 10 plus sack season?

I think you have to see a player over a NUMBER of years to come to that conclusion.

Penix and Mahomes had ACLs this year. McCarthy missed all of last season.

Purdy has been hurt for most of the season as has Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow.

This has been a particularly tough year on quarterbacks.

What I will say is I don’t think Kingsbury is managing the offense and coaching in a way to ensure Daniels plays the right way and protects himself.

He ran the ball on first down more than any other qb last year - someone needs to tell Kliff that Daniels is not a 230 Josh Allen or Jalen Hurts.

Daniels has not matured in that regard and the buck in a lot of ways starts at top with OC and HC.

And he didn't miss a single game at LSU where we was facing SEC Defenses. I don't know how we get the tag of "injury-prone" from his current sample size.

This!! It's exactly the point Keim made on his podcast Monday, the one titled "Second Thoughts: Jayden Daniels Done". It's a good listen. Gotta give JD5 and the O the best chance to succeed. I don't trust Kliff right now to do that.

To be fair a bunch of us weren’t thrilled with Kliff last year and thought Daniels playing out of his mind in high leverage situations (and last minute heroics) led to a lot of our success, rather than a particular schematic brilliance.

And I don’t think I need to bring up Whitt and the defensive issues that Quinn kept his patience with for 18 months until he finally made a change. Which may be a good trait in a HC over a large sample size, remains to be seen how our next DC hire goes and how that defensive staff performs.

But to act like this coaching staff is unimpeachable because we did well last year is short-sighted imo.

I don’t disagree with your thesis but (you knew a but was coming, right? 🙂) isn’t it equally as short-sighted to act like this coaching staff is impeachable because they didn’t do well this season?

To me, the difference between the two seasons is significantly dependent upon variables that went in the opposite direction from year 1 to year 2; injuries, schedules, and luck.

Year 3 will go a long way toward telling the true tale.
