I was watching another game and they do so many runs to one direction with a boot and routes behind that run going the other direction. We need more/some of that.

Other teams have a lot more variety of plays at their disposal. We have a significantly lower amount of "creativity" in our offensive scheme.

What is interesting to me is that usually when you have this much struggle with injuries and problems, offensive playcallers start digging deep into their playbooks and pulling out some wrinkles to spark things. It's not hard to see. Kafka pulled out a bunch of stuff like flea flickers against Detroit - and almost pulled off the upset!

What have we gotten that is similar? Almost nothing. The results have been 4 straight blowouts, followed by a "close loss" to a pretty bad looking team (in general) in a game where it frequently looked like the team that would win would be the one that didn't stop itself from winning. Both teams kept making bad mistakes. Slipping on the ground, unforced fumbles - it's a lot of mistakes bad teams make in these types of seasons. So again, when that happens, usually you do see some plays to get the team's juices flowing. It's fairly common, but we haven't seen much of it. If you go to the game, Kliff seems pretty listless (I only went to one, the Seattle game).

Blough is qualified from my understanding. It's a little unclear from our vantage points, I think, how good/great he is - but other teams have expressed interest and he has some Stanford connections too. I would think they'd want to keep him around. We'll see.

That said... If i'm not mistaken Blough is a big time up and comer, who people in 'the know' believe it's not a matter of 'if' but 'when' he becomes a coordinator, then head coach.


Look at the premium QB driven teams in the league. Assistants get hired away when the team has a premium at a position. It's part of the job.

There have been some things said about a knack for play design (I know it was widely reported about the game winner last year against the Eagles being "his play" although I never understood why/how that got talked about so heavily). I believe they have talked about it in general terms as well.

Sometimes we don't get the full details, we just get some "hints" - like apparently Macdonald, now Seattle's head coach, was a "wunderkind" assistant for Harbaugh at Michigan in the past. Again, there, we don't hear many details (at least I don't) but you get some little bits and pieces.

For Blough we aren't getting that level, but there are hints that he's got potential which is why his name pops up like this. We had this happen with Kevin O'Connell who Ron let go (I say it that way because Ron hired Scott over KOC for Offensive Coordinator, and that pretty much guaranteed his departure), McVay was also considered a huge up and comer. Blough's hype doesn't match McVay's at all. I am not as sure as KOC, it seemed his hype kind of spiked fast and he got a head coaching opportunity faster than typical.

I must admit I know virtually nothing about Blough the coach. I sadly did know about KOC and was very much against giving OC to Turner. I wanted KOC to be given a shot. It can' hurt to give Blough a couple game tryout to finish up this season.

Not a surprise. Luck did his redshirt behind Tavita in 2009 and Tavita backed him up in 2010. This was probably Tavita’s dream job.

I’m kind of glad he is gone. Blough is seen as a rising star and this is a way to give him a bump up the ladder.

Tavita was not a good OC at Stanford and played a role in the downfall of that program before he came here

I do recall reading of some accolades he received when initially hired. At the end of the day, he was a Rivera hire so for that alone, I'm okay with Tavita's departure and Bloughs as well if he doesn't work out in the past few games as he too was a Rivera hire

I hear you. But who have we had on the other end of potential big plays? A banged up Deebo, and a bunch of scrubs. In the scenario we've been operating under where more than a third of our starters are backups or worse, just getting guys on the same page for the basic playbook is a challenge. I don't think we can talk about the team's performance this season without acknowledging what they've been contending with roster-wise. The fact that we've been starting a back up QB in most of these games is also a big factor.

Jeez, you are correct. I read one spot he was signed in 2023 but everyplace else I am now looking shows 2024!

How about that amazing one handed catch by Burks. Gives hope that is back with us next year. I think he needs to more involved in the offense, especially if Daniels is back. Get them some time together.

Our OL is playing so good and making our mediocre RBs look good, love that!
