2025 Washington Commanders- All Things Offense

Looking at next year, my assessment of where we're at:

QB--obviously set, I think everyone agrees with this. Mariota is a good back up, but if he leaves for a starting opportunity, we'll have options. Trey Lance is available; I loved his athleticism coming out of the draft. He's be fun in Kliff's system. I think it would maximize his talents too.
RB--I'd bring all three back: Bill, C-Rod (RFA I think), McNichols. With even moderate health at receiver, we've been able to run; Bill and C-Rod are a good match, and McNichols is a poor mans Ekler. I wouldn't be opposed to an upgrade though--just don't think the major resources for Breece Hall or Jeremiyah Love are necessary. I wouldn't gripe about picking Love in the 1st either.
WR--Hard to evaluate with all the injuries, honestly. We definitely need to add here. Alec Pierce is my #1 free agent, bar none. He's averaged 22.3 and 21.1 YPC the last two years respectively--with Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones throwing. Imagine him with JD5. Someone like that can really open up the run game too. Bring back Deebo on a reasonable contract; Burks, LMC, and Lane round out our core. Much younger, faster, and healthier. Not opposed to drafting here either--Tate in that group would feed the starving kids in Indiana.
TE--I'm on the Pitts bus. I'm ready to be hurt by his tantalizing athleticism and underwhelming overall production, but I am onboard. I think he would do well here, with a legitimate OC and QB.
OL--least of my worries. Conerly is improving, Tunsil is an automatic resign, Cosmi a year removed from major knee injury, Biadasz, and Paul-Coleman battling for the last guard spot. Need younger depth though--I have not looked much at this group since it's good, as is.
 
If they bring Paul back as starting LG next year, where would Coleman fit long term? Possibly center in 2028 once Biadasz leaves?

Right now, Coleman looks to be the new Lucas. A swing tackle is valuable.

It also could be that after a year of learning how to be a guard that he becomes a good one. Poor guy has been asked to switch his position every year... even in college I don't think he played the same position two years in a row.

the point was that other teams are more injured and finding ways to win.. i just included more injured teams, some have better records. I'll get you a tissue.

It’s not a good use of a high 3rd for him to sit on the bench. Someone like KDawg is better equipped to say if he can be a center.

What you want is a smart player with a lower center of gravity to squat double teams and a good athlete who can get into the second level.

See if Coleman can develop into a guard--no idea what happened beginning of the year, but I still like Coleman. Give him the full year to develop.
 
Coleman was good value as a swing but yes we need to work him a G.

If they were to continue to feel strong about Paul, then they need to extend him now for like 2 years. This is the one of the little ways Howie has done so well building Philly, keeping young players by signing them to extensions in season. Don't let them get to FA where there could be competition to sign them

Who would he start at guard for? Do you replace Paul, one of the best pass blocking guards in the NFL, with him?

If the team loses a few more games I am interested to see if they give Coleman any more looks at G or are they just seeing him as a T. If they don't see him inside then Paul should be a priority sign right now
 
I think Coleman would be a prime trade candidate in the offseason. I think there are reasons he was a healthy scratch for a number of games this season, but he's still a physical specimen who we might be able to get a day 2 pick for. Chris Paul looks entrenched at left guard, and Coleman has shown he can at least be serviceable at guard and tackle in a pinch. I know OL depth is a big deal, and maybe Coleman will challenge to start in 2026. But I personally think he was overdrafted and we have bigger needs.

I’d prefer to keep him for now since 1) as you said, oline depth, particularly at left tackle, is important, 2) he could still grow into a quality interior olineman, 3) he can push Paul, and 4) I assume his value is a fair bit lower now, and I far prefer to sell high (unfortunate wording, but you get my point, lol).

I get what you’re saying though - it’d be great to obtain picks that can be used to get younger and faster as well as providing depth/competition and lessening the need for the 1 year FAs, etc.

I feel bad for Coleman. On top of the changes, he is also injury prone. He looked solid to good at tackle last year but Tunsil is a better player.

Unless they think Paul is more lucky than good, he should absolutely be a priority signing. I would argue more than Tunsil given that Coleman can play there.
