For me, i am mostly interested in these things.
A. Jayden comes back, assuming at least Terry is back too to help. I am not one of the people here who feel that Jayden has slipped. I do think it matters throwing to bad Wrs who aren't running the correct routes. I do think it matters when teams play man with no fear and can just tee off the QB. I do think it matters if your defense puts you so way behind so fast where you can't run the ball much and have to throw and again defenses can tee off. All of this works in a symphony.
So some think Jayden at least had to take some blame when Robbie Chosen runs the wrong route or when he scrambles because no one is open, etc. lol, yeah some sarcasm on my end to make a point. But I'd like to see Jayden even if its with just one good WR and a bad but not atrocious defense. Give Jayden a little more to work with and I think we will see last season's Jayden. I do think lesson learned from Adam Peters that you can't go into a season with no legit Z and no legit backups at outside WR. That was malpractice IMO from Peters.
Jayden didn't have a great supporting cast last year but it was at least OK. the defense was bad last year but not this level bad. So seeing Jayden in non ideal circumstanes, we saw that last year. This year is Jayden playing under atrocious conditions. So lol, I'd like to see Jayden again if he has at least one WR and Quinn can elevate the defense from atrocious to maybe just bad. He's still young. Get some reps. Rebuild your confidence. And the bonus for me is take some fans off the ledge so I won't have to spend hours defending Jayden this off season.
B. Joe Whitt is IMO a really really bad defensive coodinator. I know that's opinion but that take has grown with me over time. Players regress and play worse under him. they leave and play better elsewhere. This defense was bad before the injuries. I recall Sheehan liked to say last year, the defense is playing bad but it shouldn't be this bad considering the talent is not that level bad. I agree. IMO when healthy this is an average talent defense. Not great. Not awful. But they underacheive to say the least under Whitt.
So you got a unit that's just OK talent wise. Then you pile on injuries to make it worse. Then you pile on maybe the worst coached unit in the league. And this is what we get. I want to see this defense look better. I am not expecting great. Even bad is OK. But not atrocious.
I want Quinn's takeaway to be you know what lets hire a top defensive coordinator this off season, it can make a big difference. Also, I want him to be more hands on to this unit and see the value of it.
C. On ES I was the king of tank when the season went off the rails. But this is different to me. The tanking was often about shooting for a QB. And at least on first glance at this draft class, i am not so sure it matters if they are picking 5 or 9 or even 12 at the moment, So with that in mind, I'd like to see an upset win of a team preferably an NFC East team, Dallas or Philly. Show some grit. Pull off a feel good win or two. Yes, I would like to see them win some games in the home stretch. The team looked enthusiastic-fired up for a change in the Miami game -- I'd like to see some carry over of that.
D. Development. Too bad some of the younger players are out like Amos and McCaffrey. But work on the others -- Sainristill had one of his better games last week sans the dropped punt. Has Quan changed from being an emerging safety to someone who sucks or does Whitt have something to do with it? Sinottt? Conerly is playing better that's good.
Part of my optimism for next season is arguably the hardest spots to build are the QB spot and O line and this team has both. If the defense talent wise is truly average (not this injured version of it), I think this team will reemerge next season. To me the good and bad news of the roster construction. The bad news is IMHO the mistakes of this off season could have easily been avoided. they felt arrogant among other things. The good news is the mistakes are so easy to see, and its so easy to see where it went wrong, that they will fix it and they have the means to do it. I think Peters made mistakes this off season but i don't think he's an idiot. He's a smart dude, they will fix this.
