Can we leave him in Spain? Then I wont have to worry about him... ever again.
Sorry, they have standards. Every player that calls that stadium home is a much better kicker than Mr. Gay, and yes, I'm including the U-18 squad in that analysis.

They need to sign Jake Moody. The guy was good in SF, but a bad start to the year got him cut. He’s been in the Bears practice squad and kicked well for them filling in for Santos. They have to sign him to the active roster, but he can’t be worse than Gay.

Not sure he is the guy. He is another guy who may be sketchy beyond 40. In SF in 2024, he was 10/20 in FGs beyond 40 yards. The Bears did not have him attempt a 50 yard FG during his stint there this year

That’s some interesting info. I didn’t realize the Bears didn’t have him kick from over 50. I just know he started his career strong, then had some struggles and got cut in SF. He was great with the Bears this year. That’s not uncommon for kickers to have early struggles and find their place somewhere else. But if he didn’t attempt any long kicks, then yeah he might not be any different.

Had he been our kicker last year, the season would've ended much differently. Would you want him trotting out onto the field with the game on the line? If the answer is anything but a strong yes, he needs to go. When we do eventually right this ship, we don't need him costing us close games or deflating the team with his misses.

Things must be bad if people are calling for Jake Moody to come into town. That guy absolutely stinks.

Gay has been real inconsistent, but there's not a wealth of top end kicking talent just hanging out on their sofa. Just a revolving door of JAGs. This season is lost at this point, so might as well stick with him to see if he can pull through. He's got a solid leg.

The season is lost so it’s worth trying a new kicker to see if we can find some guy on a rookie deal who can be productive instead of this $4M JAG

I don't know man - it seems like kicker is one of the biggest positions where today's JAG is tomorrow's star. That said, as usual, if you trust in your coaches, you kind of sit back and let them decide based on the data they have (practices, etc.) that we don't. When the trust starts breaking down, we start double-checking every last decision they make to the waterboy and the gatorade flavor. I prefer Grape, but I am open to differing opinions with evidence.

The fact he wasn’t released today kind of says they’re sticking with him. Pretty lame when there are PS kickers around the league we could steal to our 53 who could potentially develop with the rest of the season to try them out. And if they also suck, nothing lost

I dont trust this dumb coaching staff to make any intelligent decisions.. they will stick with him because they are idiots.

Well, you might get your wish.

Happy ex-Gay day, Conn!

This is a tough one, Gay has only missed one kick inside the 50 over the past two seasons, but he is also 7 for 18 from 50+ in that same timespan. Pro kickers are expected to make those 50 yarders nowadays, and his inability to do so has cost us some games, so I understand cutting him, though I also blame the coaches for asking him to kick outside his range.

I hope we find a good kicker, but we haven’t had much luck with that.
