Commanders Trade Deadline Thread

I would trade anyone on the defense except for Amos, Armstrong, Sainristil, and Kinlaw. Won’t miss anyone else really and they can’t do worse than what we already have out there. Love Wagner and his London Fletcher impersonation out there tackling a ton but he’s a liability. As is most of the defense haha.

I don't think they are going to be buyers this year, and missing a 2nd and 4th round pick for the Tunsil trade, I think it's even more unlikely.

That said, the trade deadline is November 4th. There are 3 more games, @Dallas, @KC and vs. Seattle.

If we don't have a winning record at that point, I actually think they should become sellers. And the piece I would look to move would be Payne. Who contrary to popular belief is not on a contract year, because he's under contract for 2026, but it's an easy out if a team wants to cut him. He might have value.

The other player is Coleman. If he has been dog-housed and wants to play tackle, that's not going to happen here. Somebody will need a tackle. And he played well enough at LT last year to think he could be somebody's fill in tackle where they lost a starter. He might fetch a mid-round pick, because he was a mid-round pick last year, played reasonably well, and is on a rookie contract.

I don't think there will be a trade market for just about anybody else. Trading Wagner serves no purpose. However, as much as I love him, it's probably time to move on from him in the off-season.

If they can't figure out their defense at least a little, I wouldn't mind them being sellers at this point. Someone is going to want and perhaps overpay for Payne.

Is that the problem with Coleman, he wants to be a T not a G and is moping?

We simply cannot afford to give up any more draft picks in general.

I actually hope they get creative in the other direction if things go sour the next few weeks, and see who we can move in exchange for picks.

I agree that Coleman is our best trade asset. To get max value for him, the team that trades him needs to see him as a potential long term solution at a tackle spot and likely needs to be out of the playoff hunt. What we have working against us is most teams with tackle issues have either recent draft picks or big money guys at the position.

The best fit I can think of is the Browns. Two guys to look at are Isaiah McGuire who is a classic DE2 - plus run defender who is an average pass rusher & Ronnie Hickman, their starting FS. McGuire has 1.5 years left on his rookie deal as does Hickman

My assumption is that Adam Peters doesn't want to go into the draft with only 5 picks. However the next 3 weeks play out could determine what kind of trade deadline activity we should expect.

It's very unclear, that hasn't been reported. But the reporting is he didn't have a very good camp, and it's not JUST the play that's keeping him inactive. Galdi said "they clearly want to see him practice better." You kindof have to read between the lines, but if he's not practicing hard, there's something wrong. And we heard NOTHING about practice or maturity issues last year.

So what changed?

I'm speculating that he's grumpy about moving from guard to tackle. Maybe because he wants to be in the premier position, maybe because he just doesn't like playing guard, maybe because he just isn't good at playing guard even though that might be his body type.

I dunno. It's speculation on my part, but something isn't right in Denmark.

Thanks for explaining, I didn't think I'd read that any where. Your speculation is fair.

If he can't make the active roster on game day here, what will teams see as his value? If a team does see value they are not going to give a lot for him. Are we cutting our losses by making a trade for a late rounder?

As last year progressed, he was not that bad a LT. What scares me is he becomes a decent L or RT for another team. I thought he earned a shot at one of the T spots. The team thought otherwise bringing in 2 new starting T's.

This is horrible! How can we expect to compete with this level of performance? As some said, next 2 weeks will decide where we go, but I think we must not trade our draft picks anymore, thinking we can somehow win like last year.

Well good thing is we have a ton of cap space and have at least 3 regular starters to roll over to next season with Armstrong, Kinlaw, and Amos. Be aggressive in free agency and go defense heavy in the draft. And for the love of God please get youth and speed at the LB position finally. We need a stud at MLB to run the show. We are going to be contenders starting next year imo. The offense is going to be set for a while. Just add some depth pieces on that side. Hoping we sign Burks by the way, he still has some stuff left to prove. Saw he was visiting.

It really does suck that you can't plan beyond these three. I will say that Jerzahn is fine as a starter next year. You'll just need to rotate him with a bigger run stuffer type like a Goldman on obvious running downs. Luvu is fine too. Just need to get him to focus on the role he had last year. We're probably stuck with Sainristil - hopefully they move him outside but doubt they do. That gives us 6 starters with 5 more to fill (2 safeties, outside/nickel CB, green dot MLB with speed, EDGE with speed)

If Magee shows he can consistently tackle, maybe he can take the green dot MLB role next year. We need to bring in a real lead safety and spend on that in FA (that's one of the positions you can always find one). Let Quan compete with Will Harris for a starting job next year and draft another guy to throw into that mix given both those guys hit FA anyway end of 2026.

I think a team who needs a tackle will look at last year's tape and determine if that level of play would help them. If it will, they might make an offer. If it doesn't they won't. That's my guess, anyway.

I think Sainristil is definitely in that group. There might be others, but that's the one which immediately popped to mind.

I never thought I would read the words "stuck with Sainristill". We all loved this pick and he showed signs last season. But like Luvu and pretty much everyone else his play this season has dropped off for whatever reason.

He's been pretty good as of late. He had a rough first few weeks, but he's been fine to better than fine for a while now. At least to my eye, and I think people following the team tend to agree.

I was looking at the receivers in the draft and it is a weak class.

Brian Thomas Jr just hasn’t fit for whatever reason in JAX and is probably gettable because this FO didn’t draft him and they are out a 1st due to the Hunter trade.

I would consider trading our 1st for him not just for this season but also for the two extra years of cheap control. Maybe we could try to get a 2nd or 3rd back

Helps that he has played with Jayden for two years, mans the X and showed last season he is a WR1 in the right setting.

Suter said he was terrible in man against Chicago. Got beat on almost every man coverage snap

Revisiting this, we should sell off after we lose the next two and are sitting at 3-6. Q is what do we get for our guys? These are the trade pieces I see:

Payne - 4th or 5th? He’s been up and down but the splash plays have been there. Could eat the remaining base salary this year

Von - 5th for 6th swap? He’s probably wants to go to a contender anyway. He has been getting his sacks on a limited pitch count. There’s a massive need out there for pass rushers and a lack of supply. The Jags have 13 picks in the draft next year and can certainly spend draft capital

Bobby - 6th? Probably his call ultimately. Won’t trade him if he doesn’t want to be moved.

Lattimore - 6th for 7th swap? You laugh but William Jackson was worse and got us a conditional 7th back. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Bears want him given their need at outside corner and Dennis Allen’s long relationship with him.

Iggy - 7th? Some teams were interested before cutdown day. Midseason, does this guy bring back value?

Deebo - 5th. All dependent on the heel and if he can play before the deadline. He’s been having a good season and, with WR injuries, maybe some team sees him as the piece to add for the playoffs. Again, Jags would make a lot of sense as all their receivers but Hunter are banged up

Ertz - Unlikely as I haven’t heard of contenders losing starting TEs

Coleman - Player for player trade candidate but I would hold on unless a left tackle hungry team pays a premium

I'm not sure obviously but I think Payne is worth more than a 4th or 5th. Ditto Deebo. Think we could squeeze out a little more for those.
I'd also keep Coleman unless really happy with what is offered depending on why we have soured on him of course.
