Official Game Thread - Week 4 - Commanders @ Falcons

I hope I'm totally wrong, but it will take another two drafts to build a true contender.
You probably are correct, but I would specify 2 full (meaning at least 1 pick in each round) drafts at a minimum, with multiple players who can contribute in each. That will take at least 3-4 years and probably longer to come to fruition.

It was the height of arrogance and incompetence to ignore the lack of a pass rush heading into the season. It was a glaring weakness everyone knew about it and was not addressed sufficiently. We needed a draft pick and some youth injected at the position.

But John Keim and Logan Paulsen told us Jacob Martin and Deatrich Wise would solve our problems

Couple hours old at this point but Bullock clearly attributing the failures to player execution rather than coaching. Hopefully the staff doesn’t feel the same way or we’re doomed, Lattimore getting spanked in man against bigger and faster WR’s is one thing but the guys running open against zone…if you don’t think you can coach that out of your players then there’s a much larger problem and you aren’t earning your check. Impossible for it NOT to be partially a coaching problem when it’s the entire secondary all the time.

Don’t even get me started on the schematic decision to have Old Man Wagner cover athletic TE’s down the field or across the formation. Idiocy. Why exactly did you draft the young athletic coverage LB’s? Get them snaps in obvious passing situations, it can’t be worse and at least they aren’t athletically outmatched the moment the ball is snapped.

I would never blame this level of incompetence for 4 straight quarters on player execution.

Individual bad plays here and there sure but being completely lost for 60 minutes, thats a coaching problem but admittedly exacerbated by a lack of talent.

Oh no, the sky is falling! Fire the whole staff, bunch of idiots…. Adam Peters is a dolt, Dan Quinn is Rivera 2.0.

Cmon guys, take a breath. Atlanta was motivated after being embarrassed and punched us in the mouth early with the running game. Jayden and Terry bring out make us easier to defend and we still scored 27.

Jayden and Terry coming back gets us right, plus we’re still building. We’re ahead of schedule mentally since we went to the championship game last year. Enjoy the ride of as ascending football team.

Pitchforks down…

Martin's okay but yeah we obviously needed much more. Mike Green's not doing a whole lot with the Ravens but I was hoping we would have a made a move to get him. Whatever. Hopefully they've learned a lesson and will address it adequately when the time comes.

The fact that a bunch of Ron's first round picks were absolute busts put AP behind the 8-ball immediately.

It’s also the main reason he chose to come here (fresh start under new owner with the Jayden Daniels draft pick) so we kind of have to accept the bad along with the good it gave us. AP probably wouldn’t be here if Rivera built a better roster and we were interviewing GM’s while holding the #11 overall pick or something. Or if the team wasn’t quite so hopeless and Snyder delayed selling.

Harris was the right owner to lure AP, but he was also waiting for the perfect opportunity and the right shot at the right QB to take a GM job. So it all comes with the territory

I'm guessing we go after a valuable edge rusher on a team that is no longer in competition for the playoffs by mid-season.

Agreed - just saying. The "bare cupboard" argument is completely valid. That was the point I was originally rebutting.

It doesn’t help but this team went to the NFCG last year. The blaming it on Ron thing is getting old.

AP is a top half of the league GM but he has a ways to go to join the ranks of the likes of Roseman and Beane.

Sans Jayden, his drafts have not been anymore impressive than the Kyle Smith drafts. He also should’ve been more aggressive in FA this past year.

No, don't think so. Defense is an absolute dumpster fire.

Yep great point. #2 pick + the 5 Day 2 picks he was given

AP started with extra picks in year 1 and traded away his own picks this year and next year. So while I liked all the deals at the time (and still do minus the understandable Lattimore whiff), I’m not going to grade him on a curve for not having more draft picks to build the roster. That was his choice and plays into the whole situation

Listening to the postgame, Santana Moss said he was watching how much Atlanta stacked their receivers and in turn how confused the secondary was as to how to handle that. and they kept at it.
Makes you wonder if Moss is seeing it standing on the sidelines as a bystander, what the hell are the D coaches upstairs in the boxes
seeing?

Same with the Packers. So it’s a recurring weakness in our zone defense

yep no in game adjustments and no coaching at all. Its time to get rid of Dan Rivera ......
