Official Game Thread - Week 4 - Commanders @ Falcons

So he gets hurt trying to outrun some DBs who were successfully closing down on him, hence the dive. Maybe I am misremembering the play. I need to rewatch it. But that was my impression while watching it.
tbf, Mariota hung that ball up a little and Terry had to slow down almost to a complete stop. if he was hit in stride, it wouldn't have been close. the DB beaten badly.

edit: "complete stop" was a bit of an exaggeration, but he had to slow down considerably from the full speed he was running the route. the DBs were trying to close in so there was no drop in speed on their end. with such a short distance between them when Terry caught the ball, that delay was enough for them to close the gap. I'm also pretty sure the injury was from getting his leg pulled and held onto as he was diving. sudden opposing forces can cause injuries like that. I seriously do not think this is a conditioning injury. him being out of sync the first 3 weeks was definitely from not participating in camp and not getting play time in preseason.

Don't know as to the injury. It could have happened from the stretching he did to reach the goal line. But a quad injury is typically considered soft tissue. Soft tissues are generally the main fear of players who don't have that camp ramp up training.

But after catching the ball he had some space on the defender. Not a lot but some.

My point with Terry is if you are going to live by the sword you are going to die with it, too. If you are going to make the case hard you can outrun defenders and you are durable. If both points are challenged as early as game 3 -- he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt from me. This coming from someone who used to love Terry. I stlll like him. But I see him more of a mercenary now -- Terry me, me, me like some other receivers. Doesn't make him a bad dude. But I do think he made it quite clear this off season a big bag is much important to him than the team winning a championship. He's under contract. You don't have to hold out ALL of camp -- minicamp, all of it, to make a point. And again plenty of players are the same. But not all.

I get it. It's a business. But I no longer see Terry's "intangibles" as special the way I once did.

Conclusions

The 2020-2021 NFL season had a significantly higher incidence of soft tissue injuries compared to the 2018-2019 regular NFL season, which may have been associated with the absent preseason due to the COVID-19 pandemic and an abrupt increase in the athletic workload of players.

Athletes who are subject to large fluctuations in the amount of soft tissue loadbearing sustained over a short period of time (e.g., NFL player starting the regular season without a proper preseason) may be subject to increased microdamage to soft tissues, altered kinematics during high-intensity gameplay, and decreased joint stability, leading to an increased incidence of soft tissue injuries [4-8]. Identifying modifiable factors that may contribute to increased soft tissue injuries could help mitigate these injuries, which has implications for athletes, teams, and medical personnel. We sought to explore how an abbreviated training period prior to regular season play might have been associated with soft tissue injury incidence.

...The purpose of preseason training is to prepare athletes for the physical demands of the upcoming season. In the absence of this period of physical conditioning, injuries are more likely to occur [16-18]. Our study’s findings are similar to recent research across multiple professional sports categories that suggest that rapid increases in athletic load are associated with increased risk for soft tissue injuries,

Sabah, the Heinicke fanatic, but also doctor who calls into talk radio, text'd Sheehan that she knows one of the doctors who checked out Terry and his niche is sports hernias. And if that's what he's got he's out about 6 weeks.

A sports hernia, also known as athletic pubalgia, is a painful injury to the muscles and tendons in the lower abdomen and groin area. It is typically caused by repetitive or forceful movements, such as:

  • Sudden changes of direction:
Sports that involve twisting, turning, or pivoting, such as soccer, basketball, and hockey.

  • Overuse:
Chronic strain from activities that put excessive stress on the groin muscles, such as running, jumping, and weightlifting.

  • Muscle imbalance:
Weakness in the abdominal muscles or tightness in the hip flexors can lead to an imbalance of forces that strains the groin.

    • Improper technique:
Performing exercises with incorrect form can put undue stress on the groin area.
It is more common in male athletes, particularly those who participate in sports that require frequent twisting and turning.

That woman is a nut job. Not saying the info isnt correct but she was on Sheehan’s show earlier this week and suggested they ‘soft bench’ Jayden so he could ‘learn’ from Mariota. What an idiot.

I haven't had one, but I'd be hard pressed to think Terry is running down to get Luke's TD ball if it's a hernia based on what they described as it's pain.

Maximillian Snyder's reign of terror was fertile ground for the crazies.... it's gonna take a while to tamp some of that down.

I know she's nuts. But her knowledge that one of the doctor's Terry is asking for a 2nd opinion for specializes in sports hernias (she's done surgeries with him) might be relevant. I hope it isn't.

I'm starting to lose my enthusiasm about going to this game. I paid an absolute shit-ton of money for this, and it's not going to be what I wanted, win or lose.

This aspect of live sports frankly stinks and always has. But it’s exponentially worse now with the cash we put out for these games, games at least used to be affordable so unless you were flying in from somewhere, you weren’t paying a ton to see backups play.

Took my fiancé to the WNBA game at TD Garden a couple months ago, she’s a huge women’s basketball fan (we grew up down the street from UCONN and live in Boston now) and because Caitlin Clark was playing the tickets were over $200.00 for nosebleeds. Got them for her as a surprise. We were lucky to catch Clark between injuries at that game but she only put up like 12 points bc she was hobbled. She barely played this season and all those people paid Caitlin Clark prices at venues that would otherwise be affordable…to NOT see her play most weeks. Brutal.

So I feel for you. I hope you have fun and I hope we demolish the Falcons in a way that’s fun for you to witness despite it all.

You get the benefit of the doubt when you don’t take delusional actions that potentially hurt and distract the team, it’s as simple as that. There’s no way to know if this would’ve happened anyways. But you open yourself up to the questions when you become a “me” guy. It is what it is, I still want him to score a million TD’s for us.

Because Amos didn't leverage health despite age as a bargaining chip negotiating a contract with the expectation of a Top 5 at the position payout. I still love Terry but the opinion has changed a bit and it's actually got nothing to do with the injury and everything to do with the fact that the lack of injuries and explosive plays were his forte. In a single play we saw him get run down from behind and soft tissue damaged that may effect his ability to play. It's a massive knock on his platform that he was different (and I will freely admit that I give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to preparation).

I'm actually not saying "Told you so" because as i've always believed, we're better with him and I don't want him hurt.... but he didnt do himself any favors.
