The All Things Terry Thread

Sutton was his closest age comp and got $41M. Metcalf was his closest production comp and got $60M. Seems like this is an average of those deals which makes a ton of sense.

I still can’t tell what the cap hits are in 26 and 27 but this is a huge win for the front office. Peters just aced his first real test with flying colors.

I hope Terry earns every penny of that $96M but the team has the control it wanted.

Actually it adds to the Keim legend for me. He makes points in such understated ways, unlike for example Schefter who comes off so definitive, that sometimes I pause to wonder if he's not 100% sure. But 90% or so of the time he nails it. And the odd thing about him is he seems to have no interest in getting credit for it or being the first with the info.

When all of the reporters were guessing what the true AAV was, Keim said he thinks it could be 29 million. When Keim even soft peddles his points, its usually something he's heard that he trusts.

Keim also soft peddled the idea that he thinks this was likely a take it or leave it offer from the team at the end. Feels that way, too considering where it ended up.

But yeah as for me, I would want to cut bait if I needed to in two years. That's basically the contract. And if he was so convinced he'd be different at 30 years old plus, then prove it via incentives -- also in the contract.

Feels like a big win for this FO considering Terry's ask and stubborness.

Looking at this contract, I think Peters won the game of chicken. The top numbers help Terry's camp save face, but the terms are in the team's favor.

as I mentioned yesterday, Art Monk put up 86 catches for 1,186 yards and 8 touchdowns in his age 32 season with Washington, so some guys in their 30's do continue to remain productive.

One thing Terry has in common with some of the other great Washington receivers over time is that he keeps in shape and respects the game.

That tends to keep you in it longer.

It's possible he could still play well. Odds are against him statistically.

It's cool that Art Monk had a big season at 32. Among arguably, their next two best WRs after Monk, Santana prided himself on keeping in shape and he dropped off a cliff from 31 to 32. Gary Clark never hit 1000 yards once hitting 30 and regressed statisitcally ever year until retiring at 34.

if Terry proves it after 2 years (or comes close), i'm sure Peters will restructure in accordance with his new Santana Moss type role. Terry will not see the 2027 and 2028 money.
 
$3.2M Incentives for each year except the last, which is just $2.7M.

Key thing to note:
  • The Catch and Yardage incentives are 1 catch and 1 yard more than he had in 2024.
  • He's only had 83+ catches once in his career
  • He's only had 1097+ yards twice in his career
  • He's only had 10+ TD's once in his career
  • He's only been 1st/2nd team All-Pro once in his career

It's entirely possible he's still same old high quality Terry in 2025, but doesn't hit those numbers. Especially if the run game materializes. Those incentives are more difficult to reach than you initially think.

Exactly. That's what i love about that deal. He was making big money this year anyway. He basically got one more year. And then they can decide what going forward.
 
wow.. 44M guaranteed. AAV $29M. DAMN... GMAP did his thing big time. And did it in a very professional way. Let Terry and his agent do their spinning or whatever (and good for them too as it's a lot of money still) and yet the Team won big time. Bravo.

It took so long because Terry clearly was holding out for much more. He ultimately budged.

We will hear on twitter by some its a win for both sides. I don't think so. Unless the point is just hey the agent wanted the cosmetic victory lap about getting 32 million, with the guess that he got 60 million plus guaranteed.

But ultimately, the team didn't want to hit 30 from what some leaked. the team didn't want to go 60 million guaranteed from what some leaked. The team ended up winning on both points.

I know some stragglers think we have no idea what Terry was really asking. But come on we got Schefter, Charles Robinson, Rappoprt, Russini, Nicki J and even Keim saying he was asking north of Metcalf.
 
Sheehan's point so far is he knows Terry wanted a lot more but he stll should be happy with this.

I agree. From Terry's point of view, if he got over the Fantasy island thoughts about what he was worth...

1. It's his third contract
2. Most 30 plus year old WRs drop off
3. If he's as good as he thinks he will be in his 30s, he will have a chance to prove it with incentives
4. No other teams would give him the monster deal he was looking for

Not just the run game...IMO Deebo is going to get a ton of looks that will eat some of Terry's numbers.

Orlovsky for me was the most embarassing of the national talk show hosts on ther topic -- with the how hard is this, he's your top WR, just pay him what he's asking. He came off smug about it too like Peters is some moron for not simply paying whatever Terry asked for.

lol, he'd be one crazy bad realtor if you hired him to find a house to buy -- he'd be going dude, this is what they are asking for, you want the house, pay whatever price is the ask, how hard is that?
