The All Things Terry Thread

No matter the $ amount, I think the 3 years is key and may have been behind the division. If 2 are all that's guaranteed that is even better. A 4 to 5 year deal with guarantees years 3,4,5 would have hurt especially with JDs contract coming up. If we find a WR1 in the next year or 2 it opens up more possibilities and if it comes to it TM can be released if need be at that point.

And 10 more Touchdowns.

TD’s aren’t a stat that’s sticky from year to year, they’re very dependent on offense and (mainly) QB. Andre Johnson was a HOF talent at WR who barely scored TD’s in his career, Julio Jones had years like that as well. TD receptions in one season aren’t predictive of future seasons’ production at all unfortunately. Never a good idea to overpay a guy based on TD production if the rest of the statistics are similar year over year

as the #2 and borderline #3 receiver yes. no one here is gonna argue that dk is younger and more of an athletic freak. terry is the better receiver that was in a worse situation in the past. dk didn't deserve his contract and i'm hoping terry's actual contract number is below 30 (not counting potential incentives). if all things were equal, terry is a tier above dk and i don't think it's even up for debate.

I would take DK over Terry every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

then we haven't been watching the same games since 2019.

edit: if they were the same age, i still say it's not close.

Bigger, faster, stronger, younger, more skilled...
bigger, younger, and faster...sure.

he plays smaller, you can tell from contest catch percentages alone. terry has been the #1 since 2019. dk was #2 to lockett then #3 for a period behind lockett and JSN. skilled? i have to outright say you are wrong. he can only run two routes and he has questionable hands because he plays smaller than his size should dictate.

Terry was drafted the same year as DK Metcalf. DK Metcalt got a 32+million a year extenstion from the Steelers. Terry has five 1000 yard seasons to DK's three.
A little cherry picking going on there considering they're like 40 yards apart career wise.
1002 yards in a season is not really any better than 975, lets be honest it just sounds better when you start totaling thousand yard seasons.

agreed. let's bring it all into context then. people can't say dk is better like it's a vast difference in production then downplay in other cases. look at their situations then look at game film in terms of what they can do and what their team compositions were. i like dk, but he was way overpaid. i'm hoping the actual deal for terry is far from the superficial 32 mil per year...but to say dk is vastly better based on combine measurables alone is assinine.

edit: when someone says they'd take DK every day of the week and twice on sunday...that suggests to me that they think there is a huge gulf between dk and terry. if you wanna say it's a wash...i can be okay with that. my eyes and opinion tells me otherwise...but there is not a chasm of difference.

They may have been drafted in the same class, but DK is 2.5 years younger than Terry. That matters.

(Also, DK got overpaid like crazy)
DK is a better athlete but isn't a better player than Terry but that is beside the point. We all know how the NFL works. There is a reason it's good to sign players early. When you wait there is a chance another team will hand out a contract that changes the market rate for a position. I thought everyone, except Jerry Jones ;), knew this. All that aside, it boggles my mind to see some the takes on player contracts. I see people giving takes they would not have if they were talking about their own money.

to be clear...i also understand, age (no matter how much terry and buddy try to downplay it) is a factor. i understand why and might even agree that, on a longer timeline, having DK to a long term deal is smarter than terry. but, if we're talking about today and next year? i still think terry is the better receiver.

Its tough but look at it this way if you were starting a team tomorrow and had no bias whatsoever which one would you pick between the two?

I think most gm's would go with the guy who's 4 inches taller, 20 lbs heavier, superior athletically and over 2 years younger.

There are other factors but metcalf would be paid more by most of the league if they were both unrestricted free agents.
