The All Things Terry Thread

Terry has really damaged his reputation with this nonsense. He comes off as greedy and selfish now. I get needing to get paid, and I am all for it, but don't ask for absurd money that no one else in the league thinks you're worth.

AAAANNNNDDDDD...the morons are out. Someone wrote into the Galdi Podcast calling for Peters to be fired. OK. Take your meds and head to the day room, nutjob.
The talking head morons on ESPN are still pushing the "just pay him" narrative. It gets tiresome after a while.

Whatever the outcome, my view of McLaurin has diminished greatly through this process. Not that he cares but it is both sad and true.
McLaurin the businessman is certainly shoddy. I think Art Monk the businessman may have had some issues although in that case there may have also been some awkward changes too. It's pretty unclear because there was a lot more team-friendly reporting at the time.

McLaurin the oblong ball catcher is still really good. If he wears my team's colors and catches the ball exceptionally again, I will be rooting for him every bit as hard as before. My opinion of his business acumen right now is pretty low, but it was graded as "Incomplete" before. With Snyder making deals, almost everyone got an "Incomplete" - you couldn't tell what their savvy was.

For those who find fault with AP cleaning house, or find fault when new management cleans house in multiple situations, this is one of the reasons it happens (and not always on purpose). You have inherent biases built-in from previous regimes/leadership, and adaptation is hard for some people. Yes, I am disappointed in McLaurin's adaptation after last year, seeming to be on the same page, but on the business side... clearly it wasn't the case.

It’s been made unnecessarily dramatic and a nuisance by Terry’s camp, but it’s no game of chicken.

Terry is going to play.
I'm not so sure about that. I get the feeling Terry and his camp have pushed all their chips in the middle of the table and have gone all in, and they are willing to risk losing money to get a new deal.

Buddy Baker should talk Terry out of this, and do it literally NOW, but I am starting to get the feeling Terry is going to sit out at least 1, if not the first 2 games. Remember, we have 2 games in 5 days because we play the first Thursday Night game of the season. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Terry has decided to let the first 2 games play out, hope the team's offense looks putrid, and then hope Peters relents and signs Terry in the mini-bye between Weeks 2 and 3.

Sure, he would give up ~$1.6m in game checks, but Buddy might be convincing him that if he gets what he wants, that investment is well worth it.

When you're getting bad advice, or not listening to advice (and I have no idea which is the case), and you are acting against your best interest and not recognizing leverage, that's behavior which I don't expect to just change "because." Something will have to change it.

The only thing which would change it is if Terry absolutely does not want to miss paychecks. Otherwise, if he's willing to lose game checks, there is no reason to believe the situation will change based on previous actions.

I am not sure. I think the “cover” sometimes helps not tank value. Sometimes in a purely business sense, you need to maintain value for a potential trade. Something our team never seemed to do in the past because ego was more important.

Yes. It's also important for Peters to stay on the high road to minimize any damage to team cohesion.

I heard that, it was a somebody who just goes by "skinsfan."

The one thing I would say to that particular bit of stupidity is it was well researched stupidity, and probably all the same statistics and facts Buddy Baker is using on Adam Peters.

There is just one problem: Paying Terry the DK contract basically assumes Terry will continue his current production through his age 34 season. And that's just unlikely. That's the piece which the Terry camp just can't seem to wrap their heads around.

Galdi keeps saying, "pay for what you will do, not for what you have done." It's the absolute basis of literally all contracts in the history of the world, sports and non-sports. Terry wants to be paid based on what he's done. That's the wrong approach.

Anyway, back to Skinsfan's email. I appreciate the research and the well thought out nature of his email, even if it was moronic and completely wrong. I do wonder, could Skinsfan be Dan Snyder lobbing a grenade from England? Clearly he would have needed help getting the facts into coherent sentences, but AI can do that for him, and he has kids who probably know how to use AI. So, I'm going to make it my head cannon that Skinsfan who was calling for Peters to be fired is Dan Snyder.

Bruce Allen drunk e-mailing, again.

The team has no real reason to budge, other than goodwill, and that has probably already been ruined. No other team would give Terry that contract.

I’m with everyone else. We’d be better off making him play out this year and then franchising and trading him.

If he wants to play hardball, then that goes both ways.
I come back to something Keim said last week, the team MIGHT be willing to come up to an AAV of $28M, (and I have to post I think AAV is a completely useless number), but he was unsure if that would be enough for Terry to sign it.

Also important: The 2025 WR Franchise Tag is $24m. Before he signed his long term deal with Cincy, that's what Tee Higgins was supposed to make. That's the average of the top 5 WR contracts based on whatever formula they use (NOT AAV) using base salary, bonuses, whatever. The reporting is for next season, the franchise tag will be ~$28M.

IF the team is willing to come up to $28M, that's already $4m more than the current franchise number. Granted, this is a fuzzy comparison because it's comparing real salary (franchise tag amount) to AAV, which is somewhat bogus. But let's say the team is willing to pay Terry $24 this year, $28 next year and guarantee all of it.

The way that would work is probably a $10m signing bonus to increase his current year take home to $24M, guarantee next year's salary, and then fully guarantee this years salary (which is perfunctory, he's going to get it anyway.)

If Terry isn't willing to take that, then it's on him because he's turning down 2 top 5 WR years.

And I think the team would be willing to do that, because he IS valuable to them. They want him, he's their best receiver, and they want him in the program.

But he has to be reasonable in his asks.

I don't think Bruce has the type of scorn for Harris and Peters as Dan. Bruce would be more likely to write nasty grams about Dan. Though Bruce can speak and write in full sentences, so that does leave the door open...

Could be Vinny 😉
If it was Vinny, it would not have been as well researched. He also probably would have just signed it Vinny Cerrato because I don't think he would have been creative enough to come up with a very uncreative handle.

Based on your description of "skinsfan" - my money is on Buddy.

That would be way too obvious.

So, it's entirely possible.

Though it kindof backfired because Galdi basically said it was comical and then point by point obliterated it. As an aside, if anybody wants a completely off the wall brain candy show to watch, Obliterated in Netflix is a fun watch. The show runners were the same ones who did Cobra Kai. Warning, Obliterated contains adult content.

Based on Buddy's track record, I would say everything you just said makes Buddy a very likely candidate.

I just want to say I'm not changing my head cannon, Skinsfan writing into Galdi's podcast is Dan Snyder. Even the uncreative name makes sense.

You aren't going to change my mind. :p

Come on, this Buddy theory is some good competing head canon. Don't challenge me, that's when I can't stop... haha.

I like the Dan Snyder story, for sure, but the "he should be fired" part is great for Buddy. He's cornered and this is his best play, in his mind. His best strategy right now is calling/emailing podcasts as "skinsfan" and trying to build up a "Fire Adam" movement. That's his play.

It's classic Buddy!

I'm not sure, if it was Snyder, it would have read: "Sponsored by Crown Royal!"
