Edit: traded on 8/22 for a 2026 6th to AP’s old buddies in SF. Good luck BRob 🫡

Here’s a place to put all our errant BRob thoughts while he’s still on the roster.

I also hope there is a resolution soon for Brian Robinson.

I think he's fine. He's not great, but he's definitely deserving of a job in the NFL, and I hope he gets traded or released soon enough for somebody to pick him up so he can continue his career.

I'd trade him to Miami for Tyreek hill. Straight up. Actually, fins should throw in an extra 3rd just 'cause that's what Vinny would do.

He was a find out of nowhere for the Broncos last season. Cost controlled which is huge for the cap strapped Saints but I wouldnt give that up for him

That’s the point, we see ‘odd’ trade compensation all the time for teams that believe they have a need

Case in point regarding the trade value discussion. Who is this guy and would you have rated him as valued at a 4th AND 6th round pick?

I did know who he was as he had some buzz last year, but I would not have guessed he could get a 4th and 6th rounder (especially from the Saints where those are likely to be high 4th and 6th rounders (unless their comp picks or picks they got in a trade). I would have guessed maybe a 5th rounder or a 4th rounder where they give the other team back a 6th rounder in return.

Yeah, very strange trade. Saints don’t have a QB, and Vele is underrated but will be 28 before the Super Bowl this year. That 4th is gonna be at the top of the round, and they had to throw in a 7th?? Bizarre and someone in that FO got tunnel vision bidding against someone else (an actual contender was willing to give a 5th I bet)

Easy call for the Broncos. Vele was found money for them, not young, Troy Franklin showed a lot of growth this offseason after a disastrous rookie year and they LOVE Pat Bryant. Plus Sutton and Engram, who is perfect for Sean Payton.

I always get jealous seeing teams pull off trades like this. Reminds me of some bullshit u would have finagled by abusing the AI in Madden 07 when I was younger. Imagine the miracle if we could do something similar with Robinson and trick some team into thinking we’re dummies who don’t get how to use him…

The more I think about it, I might reverse course. Robinson might have value to somebody. I've said I think he's a "fine" back. Well, there probably are some teams that just need a "fine" back who can get some tough yards.

Late round pick for a player who has experience, isn't that expensive, and will be a professional? I mean, it could happen.

I THINK Robinson would have to go through the waiver process, because players with fewer than 4 accrued seasons have to go through the waiver wire process, and this would be Robinson's fourth year. If I'm right about that, I think the highest likelihood of a trade happening is if a team believes another team higher in the waiver wire order will snatch him off waivers, and they have to make a trade in order to beat the waiver process.

If the team is high in the waiver order, and they believe a team is going to jump them for a trade, that could also entice a trade.

So, it could happen. If Robinson didn't have to clear waivers, I think there's no chance a trade happens, they'd make the Commanders cut him, and then take their chances in a bidding war where the high end would probably be for less than the $3m he's set to earn on his current contract.

I think the coaches & front office see B-Rob as a JAG (Just another Guy). Not bad, but not a factor or difference maker. If your roster is in need of RB depth, he will fit the bill for a specific role, but on this current roster when I look at the RB room, I just don't see the need for a B-Rob caliber RB. I know C-Rod hasn't had a ton of regular season reps to help aid my point but I always thought C-Rod had more to offer than what his number of reps suggested and it looks like the coaches are ready to let him go out and try to prove it this season. I think as far as a trade goes this may be a case where what B-Rob offers is more valuable to a team needing depth and if it snags us a later round pick that will either be used or packaged for something even better in the future, I'm in. No knock on B-Rob, but this is the business side of the game and I think the FO was going to let him walk at the end of the season anyway so why not try to get something for him instead?

Durability is also critical over 17+ games. We need a strong room to pull from.

Maybe, but I also think it might just be scheme fit. They might like him fine, but he's not the type of explosive player they really want on their offense.

He might be fine in a different style of offense, or in a different role.

Quinn said when he was hired, in his opening press conference, Quinn was asked to describe the team he wanted to have, and his exact quote was "I would say if I had to say two right now, it'd be explosive and physical. The explosive comes offensively and on the return game from big plays, through the run game, through play action, through the passing gam, ones that can change field position. And those are the explosive plays that you have to keep going and being aggressive to go."

Robinson just doesn't fit the explosive nature of what Quinn said he was looking for since literally his first day. And probably before his first day during the interview process.

If other teams feel like they could use his power and experience, he might have a market.

No surprise, but the strongest confirmation we’ll get aside from anything actually happening:

Agree with all that, not to mention going into a contract year I am betting that B-Rob would want to be as much a feature back as possible to help try and raise the price for his next contract, the RB room here likely wouldn't haver facilitated that.

They must have guys they want to keep, all 53, because I'm pretty sure that Robinson is going to be worth more in a trade in October than he is now once some dudes are injured.

All of this trade speculation and energy over getting a #6 or #7 round pick for a guy that started last season here?

I guess they really want him off the roster and or want to save that $3M because I don’t think McNichols or Rodriguez is at Robinson’s level if the team suffers injuries to Merritt or Ekeler.

I feel like the plan all along was that Kingsbury was gonna change the offense in certain ways this year and it became more and more obvious that BRob wasn’t gonna be a good fit for those changes. Fading down the stretch of last season, leaving too many yards on the field, and the fumblepalooza against the Eagles also didn’t help.

Yeah, and good front offices utilize their assets to acquire other assets.

Getting a day 3 pick for a guy you have no intention on keeping is a solid business move.

I still want to see better than McNichols and Rodriguez as the top backup options.

I think we are likewise thin with Deiter and Chris Paul inside. We are a little too comfortable with guys who are familiar with system but are not strong performers when they have to come in and play.
