Sure, but your career isn’t over if you randomly pop your Achilles in a freak event you have no control over. Or at Terry’s age, even an ACL or MCL or fracture. Something that happens quite frequently to ball players.

The one mine field I think Peters still has to navigate carefully is the Commanders Tag issue.
Both Peters and Quinn heavily stressed this concept and last year (and for several before they got here) Terry exemplified that. So, this early in their tenure the question lingers is all that Commanders Tag stuff all just talk? Is it crap? And it's probalby important for the team for it not to be.
That's the one reason that letting Terry play out his contract may be good business but bad for the team.

Terry will play for whoever pays the most. He doesn't care about it specifically being us. That is completely apparent. Terry has personally removed his tag, while hiding behind his agent.

I listened to JP's pod yesterday, and oddly they seemed to be more optimistic about getting a deal done.
Their general point was they saw the fact Terry was cleared from PUP as a sign both sides were working together to get the deal done, and something would get done.
I don't agree with that take. I think it's more the team was done with the charade, and they told Terry what they were going to do and he essentially had to capitulate.
They also said the next time there is a possibility of seeing Terry on the practice field will be Wednesday. My guess is he's not going to be on the field.
At some point, Quinn is going to lose the convenient excuse of Terry's absence being injury related and he's going to have to jus say, "it's a contract thing, talk to Peters." I don't know when that is going to be, but I think it's coming this week if nothing gets done.

Yep, and Keim said a couple days ago that removing him from the PUP list had nothing to do with progress on negotiations. It was about getting ready for the season, and Keim used the key sentence "He is under contract".

Terry was never labeled with that, they label incoming draft prospects with that tag, they did a whole video about it last year.
They actually de-emphasized it this year in their behind the scenes draft footage, and didn’t reveal who any of the “Commander Tag” recipients were because I think they realized it gave guys unfair expectations with fans. A couple of their year 1 Commander Tag players still haven’t produced, for example.
What they did instead was share that Lane was a “Commander Caucus” pick, meaning that an assistant coach stood on the table for him on day 3. And they shared the stuff about Kliff loving Conerly.
But yeah they dialed back the “Commander Tag” stuff I assume bc it created fan perception issues on those guys compared to the rest of our picks.
But either way it was never applied to in-house vets that I recall. It’s a draft thing.

Sheehan talked about this on his show, he said Schefter said Terry wants more than Metcaf's deal, if I heard him right signficantly more. If so that's Schefter doubling down on his report from weeks back.

Maybe. The status quo is that he’s under contract, he’s unhappy with his pay, and we’re under no obligation to meet his future contract demands with the Franchise Tag in our pocket, so I think status quo works as well.
Metcalf's deal is defacto 30 million a year for 2 years.
He's 2 plus years younger.

If Terry is too stubborn to just take the $28M+ due to the weird pride thing he’s got wrapped up in the DK contract, he’s going to lose himself a ton of money. If we franchise him next year he’ll never ever make up the rest of that money on the back end of his career once he’s 32+
Although I agree with this, I don’t think the threat of the tag is very credible. It wouldn’t save much, if anything, over his market value, and they should want to have it in reserve for other negotiations.
I also don’t think they’ll want to prolong the acrimony. For this reason—and I seem to be in the minority here—I wouldn’t rule out a trade either, especially if McLaurin holds out of games.
Obviously that would hurt their chances this year but would support the remarkable brotherhood better in the long run.
They aren’t rewarding this dummy with a trade this year, it sets a terrible precedent. If he were to be traded it would be after they Franchise Tag him next offseason, at the earliest.
Of course you’d rather not use the tag because it all hits the cap at once, it’s inefficient. But it’s still less than he’s demanding per year so it is a tool they have at their disposal if necessary, even if it doesn’t allow them manipulate the cap the way they’d prefer.
He’ll play or ruin his career and future earnings, he doesn’t really have another choice. He doesn’t want to be tagged either, of course. But if it gets to that point he already blew the opportunity for a big contract because he’ll be 31. He needs to take what he can get now or finish his career on one year contracts that get increasingly smaller after next year
The dude is insanely entitled. He deserves a raise, but he’s not a top-5 guy, and because he came out of college as a 5th year senior (24 year old rookie) his career earnings will not match someone similar who came out at 20-22, that’s just reality. Denying that is delusional from his camp, and they’ve revealed an insecurity about his age for a reason
No team in the NFL would give him the contract he’s asking for, so a trade wouldn’t even help him
