They must really like what they've seen from Bill in camp! I'll always like BRob for getting them extra 2-3 yards and falling forward for 1st dns lol.

He definitely did that at the beginning of his career. But in the last 2 years, he’s just been getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage. Most of his runs are 1-2 yards. He just breaks a couple of longer runs to push up his average.

It also helps having a HOF TE who is essentially a no. 1 WR in a substantially lower pay scale market.

I’m sure you’re talking about Kelce, but Ertz is filling that role pretty well for us. He’s currently 6th all-time in catches by a tight end and 9th in yards, and I fully expect him to move up those lists this year, as he’s become Jayden’s favorite target. I don’t know how long he can keep it up, but he’s been a good one so far.

Sometimes he'd set up contact well and get an extra like 5-6 yards while diving forwards after contact. I feel like that was at least half of his 8-10 yard runs were getting hit 3 yards down the field and then planting and lunging forward for another half a dozen.

If only he had better vision, that one skill of his would have been so valuable in the standard RBBC situation.

But when he didn't set up that contact well, like at the LoS or just behind, he was not evading and not getting any extra yards. Tale of two players in one body.

Someone mentioned Robinson has really long legs for a RB, so if his feet aren't quick enough to reset when he's not expecting contact then it's over.

I’d be surprised if he fetches more than a late round pick swap, but I already thought he was totally expendable and on the roster bubble anyway. Honestly think Rodriguez is better as an early down thumper.

Bill’s gotta earn it but if he does, he brings an element we haven’t seen since Portis was here IMO. Ekeler still has juice and McNichols is good enough to be on a roster. Question in my mind is whether we keep 4 backs, but I’d move BRob for anything I could get.

I love that this team actually appears to be a meritocracy. Paying Terry for what they think he will do age 31-33, not for what he’s done. Cutting Hampton, a draft pick from just last year.

If they are trading B-Rob, they aren’t tied to a player just because he was a higher draft pick and an incumbent. Rodriguez was a 6th round pick, McNichols a 5th, JCM a 7th, and they have been looking better, so we are moving on from our own 3rd round pick that has started for us for the last few years. This is the ultimate non-Ron Rivera move.

Also, how bad does our trade down now look that brought us Dotson and Robinson? Terrible. If there was a hall of fame for bad drafting, Ron RIvera would be Tom Brady.

Yes I’m talking about kelce. Statistically ertz is good, but kelce is different. If I’m remembering the convo we were talking about how Mahomrs can live life after they traded Tyreek Hill, and a lot of that was the fact that they had a TE who Al could arguably be a No 1 WR on about 15 teams

Yeah, I agree with all that. Kelce is one of the best ever along with guys like Gonzalez, Gates, Gronk, Witten, etc.

Ertz is not at that level, but statistically speaking, he is in the top ten. He was our second best receiver behind McLaurin last year, hopefully we get another good year or two out of him.

I don’t know. I think Robinson brought us value as a third rounder. He was a good back who came up big a few times for us.

He’s good enough that a second contract will be more than what he’s actually worth. And running back is a position where you can replace moderate production fairly easily.

Dotson… ya I can’t say much there. But I don’t think we should be looking at BRob as a mistake. It’s just time to move on.

If he can’t get a new deal elsewhere I’d take him back in a committee at a slight discount real fast…

Kdaeg has it about right. If Peter’s could turn him into a draft pick that would be amazing. But otherwise go just the route above.

I also wonder if he's just not a schematic fit? He's not an explosive player. Looking around the rest of the offense, they want big play ability. I wouldn't be surprised if they prefer Felton over B-Rob because of his versatility as a backup to Deebo. Felton at 5'9 190, former WR in college, is a guy that can play multiple positions, and he was effective against the Patriots. They may be looking at this offense and knowing it's going to be full damn throttle, and they want speed.

This is a relief to see this floated openly by reputable reporters because to be honest (as much as I loved the value selection of JCM—and I do believe they felt confident they could steal him late) it felt weirdly unambitious watching us contentedly go into year 2 under AP/Quinn with Robinson as the main RB when he’s clearly not a great fit or great producer. It felt strangely conservative given the way they’ve moved. Now you can’t fix everything in two years but the thought of watching Robinson be mediocre every week just felt like choosing to settle, when the rest of the roster changes brought so much excitement and explosion to the locker room.

Hope it’s true.

After watching some preseason running backs, draftees such as Henderson and Tuten, one thing that sticks out is their explosiveness and cutting ability at the line of scrimmage, something that you could never call BRob is explosive. I think we can get drawn into BRob being a decent back because he has been fairly consistent and we forget how an explosive back could look in this offense.

On social media. Not sure what's true and what's not in regards to BRob, but if an accurate quote, doesn't seem to point to them trading him. Then again, this is a coach, not the Front Office, and we know who makes the decisions in Washington now.

I think this is the downside of a true hard core BPA model. It seems like AP (especially after round 1) is a strict adherent to BPA. The way he tries to patch holes is with one-year fixes. Unfortunately, most of the guys available for a one-year contract are never going to be exciting.

Robinson is at best an average back, IMO closer to below average than average. When other RBs, are having career years plaing for the first time with running QBs -- Robinson had another "meh" season.

Like most pedestrian players, its not been a straight curve of mediocrity -- some good games, good bad games, etc,

But in addition to that i am not a fan of the culture he brings. This is the same dude who said publicly that the Commanders are the better team before the matchup against Philly and then followed up his big talk with fumbiling twice in the first quarter. He had an exchange with a Lions player on social media where he concluded its "our time (Washington) for the SB next season."

I didn't pay attention to this but according to the Junkies he was the one guy dressed to the nines on the sidelines in the preseason game, where he came off like he was a celebrity.

Then before the season, nothing about how he's working on improving when asked about what he needs to do the season -- he said its just staying healthy, that's it.

As Clinton Portis of all people pointed out in a podcast, this RB room (clerly referencing Robinson) isn't good at short yardage runs. That's the odd thing about Robinson for a big dude I think he's pedestrian in those short yardage situations -- not awful at it, but just a guy. if its 4th and 1, I'd trust Rodriguez over Robinson to get it.

Not surprisng to me at all. I watched whatever I can for Croskey-Merritt before the draft. I was clamoring for him when we got to the later rounds on the draft thread.

But I don't think its just him. Rodriguez IMO is the better back, too. And supposedly he's had a good camp. i do get why they used Robinson more over Rodriguez and that is Robinson has better hands. I think that's what's limited Rodriguez. But as a pure runner Rodriguez > Robinson and the stats-anaytics clearly showed that last year granted in a snallish sample.

Be interesting what happens then because I think there is a good chance they get no trade offers, I hope am wrong, maybe a conditional 7th.

As to Chris Russell's tweet. Timid is hyperbole. But I get the point. For a big dude, he doesn't always play big. I know some say, he's a typical big back, he gets the tough yards but simply doesn't have breakaway speed. Not true IMO. He's not that great of a short yardage bruiser type either -- he's not bad at it but is just OK IMO.

Remember the Titans game, where Rodriguez came in and started bulldozing players. I recall hearing that it inspired Robinson for a drive afterward seeing Rodriguez power in effect. But yeah to me Rodriguez is the dude without breakaway speed but is a good (not great) power back. Robinson's strength IMO is he's an underrated pass catcher. But as runner there is nothing IMO he's above average at -- that includes power runs.

Thats not exactly a bold prediction on his part.

When a star player is disgruntled, wants a new contract and you start shopping him around, if in the end you give him that contract those wounds can be healed because hes a star player and he got his bag.

But this situation is totally different, hes not disgruntled, because he has no cause to be or leverage.
He's in the last year of his contract and is average at best.

Shopping him around is Sky writing to the world that we dont want him anymore and is just one more reason we'll likely get nothing for him because we all but announced we'll release him if we dont trade him.
If a team has a need for an average bruiser type back they may swap late round picks with us or best case scenario give us a 7th but otherwise I'd bet good money he'll be released when that doesnt happen.

Maybe. But the team isn't telling anyone they are shopping him. If they are making calls, it's staff from those teams that are leaking it to the media. And why wouldn't they? Because telling everyone the team is willing to let him go drastically increases the likelihood he will be cut. At worst, it would lower the cost of acquiring him if there were more than one team interested and they felt it was worth a late round pick.

The team either shops him, or they safeguard how they view him. There's not really a way to do both at the same time.
