I think this will get sorted relatively soon. Metcalf is a perfect comparison point, as he and Terry have played the same amount of years, same amount of games, and have nearly identical statistics. Metcalf though, is more than two years younger than Terry.

DK just signed for 4 years at a $33M per year. My guess is that Terry would slot in at around 3 years, $32M, with a club option on a fourth year. If Terry, and his camp, are asking for decidedly more than that, they are overplaying their hand…the numbers wouldn’t make sense, and the FO can’t redefine their payment structure for one player, who, while very good, is not a generational talent, or even multi-year all pro.

Because there's always inflation, I can see 34 or 35m/year. Salaries almost never go down. Besides, I'd take Terry over Metcalf.

Of course you’d take Terry, because he’s a known commodity here, and been nothing but an exemplary teammate. Negotiations will focus on production though, and facts are that DK and Terry have almost equal production over the exact same time frame, and that DK is two years younger. Facts are facts, they cannot change, as much as some would have you believe.

That article clearly is speculation - it's openly presented as just some possible trade partners, not inside scoop. I don't think that make's the author a 'clown'. Maybe he is overstating the compensation teams would give for McLaurin, then again, who really knows? But there's no reason to beat on a sports writer because he's speculating and it makes fans nervous - that's what those guys get paid to do.

perhaps i'm being too harsh on this particular individual, because I'm not at all familiar with their full body of work. however, it's a clickbaity premise with baseless speculation built up on conjecture (one that I have no issue with) just identifying potential fits if something were to happen - which is based upon the rumor that Terry is very unhappy with the team and may be demanding an unreasonable contract. it's the "telephone game" of journalism. it happens far too often and it's annoying. all of this is obviously having its intended effect of creating more speculation and giving reasons for fans to give any sort of credence to rumors and get upset at the team and/or players. I'm just tired of it. it's not even interesting speculation.

The track record is promising. Last year, Ertz, Ekler, and most of our free agent signings generated either a hohum or a negative reaction and yet they pretty much all out-produced expectations.

I was actually good with those signings because I knew they had played at a high level in the league. Kinlaw has never done that and is now on his 3rd team. I'm concerned Peters is weighing his pre-draft evaluaton over his actual NFL production.

Keim has reported on his podcast that the staff is excited about Kinlaw, which I would assume comes from Peters’s (or others’) direct experience with the player, not just the draft evaluation.

I’d say that this sort of inside information is a general benefit of DQ’s attracting coaches from all over the league. That’s not to say there’s no reason for concern, just like they couldn’t be sure that Ekeler and Ertz’s production would rebound after nagging injuries with their previous teams.

I do think there's truth to the rumors they intend on using Kinlaw a bit differently. I also think the Jon Allen void will be filled somewhat by Daron Payne and not just Newton.

I think the unit will feel different and play a bit better, but I don't know if that actually is enough to really matter.

If Kinlaw hits then we are getting a player on the rise for a moderate salary. If he misses, he's still being paid less than Jonathon Allen who, though we all loved him, has had a couple of disappointing years in a row. Mind you, all things being equal I would have rather kept Allen and let Payne go. Unfortunately, Allen's was the contract that expired first.

I agree, and Wilson is markedly younger. I think this (including the 4 years) would get it done with McLaurin. And I honestly don’t think we should worry about the 4th year (if us wanting a 3 year deal is the hiccup, hypothetically). The cap will continue rising and he’s taken care of his body so far.

All this depends on the guarantees as well, of course.

That’s the one place I differ. I wouldn’t pay a 34yo receiver $30 million once we are already have the highest paid player in the league, at any position, on our roster.

But just structure it so if there is a 4th year, we can get out of it. And add void years. Be the Eagles.

In a vacuum I agree, for sure. And I agree that we can structure it so that’s not literally what we’re doing, by the time he’s that age. I expect it to be structured smartly regardless of what we do. But I think the parameters are in place now between Higgins, DK, and Wilson. There’s no excuse NOT to get it done within the first two weeks of camp at worst, unless McLaurin is a lot greedier than we all think.
