For the sake of arguing, I'll say it wouldn't be better because we would never have imagined a world without the name. So maybe we'd feel no more exuberant. On the flip side, maybe we'd be grumbling about all the BS protests we had to deal with throughout the playoffs that somehow the Chiefs skirt so our enjoyment would have been less? Maybe the clean break helped bring in a horde of fans who without the change would not have bandwagoned with us?

One thing I've experienced with this fanbase is that it is very talented at finding things to be unhappy about. I mean we had a very serious thread about whether or not we would even want to win a Superbowl if it cost us a chance to return to the old name (which may have been a valid question it turns out. It's possible if this team was 7-10, we'd feel good about Daniels' progress, but there'd be no explosion of ticket sales, jersey sales, etc. so maybe Harris wouldn't have been so definite about ending the name change issue.)

Point taken but I think we’re talking about two different things here. I could be wrong but that thread (and my previous comment) I believe were not about the longshot dream of getting Redskins back but actually about the very real possibility of getting rid of commanders for something new that wasn’t shoved on us by Snyder.
Very few, if any, of the posters would have given up the Super Bowl for it. But certainly the fly in the ointment of this great season is that they were compelled to stick with Commanders. As I’ve said before, it’s my opinion that they missed their best chance for a fresh rebrand by punting on it last off-season. However many jerseys they sold, I think they would have sold more if they said redwolves or something else instead of commanders. At least one more anyway, which would’ve been me. 😁

Update on this: Reaves signed a contract extension through 2026 today, Way signed a one-year deal, Payne is in a contract year, McLaurin is holding out, and Crowder is a free agent.

Reaves may end up being the last Redskin.

Think of it as a rip the bandaid approach.

We knew the name wasn't coming back. Despite what our hearts want we knew it. The fact that Jayden's jersey was the number one seller in the NFL cemented the fact. They can sell Commanders. There is no possibility any name they chose would please everybody. Heck, there's probably even a decent part of our fan base that wouldn't want to go back to Redskins.

So the best thing they can do is make the best out of what they are stuck with. Besides, they spent 8 billion on the team, another 3 billion on a new stadium, that's a helluva lot of money for anyone to spend. Relatively speaking it'd only be tens of millions to change the name, but do they really want to do that for a name they'd be lucky to get 50% approval on?

OTOH, like Boone says. Every fan deserves their time to grieve and be mad about the name. Commanders is a bad name. They should never have never changed it in the first place, but that boat has sailed. You have every right to be mad. I do think your anger ought to be aimed at Snyder and not Harris. I think Harris played this awful hand okay. If the team had remained crappy maybe they announce a name change with the new stadium, but last year changed that and it changed because the fans spoke with their wallets.

I don't think Letthepointssoar or anyone here, or even most of the fans that wanted a change, actually thought Redskins was coming back.
They just thought we could do better than Commanders.
Daniels wasnt the best seller. Barkley topped the list. Daniels was fourth. I think his jersey would have sold well, regardless.

They made a bunch of money, sold a bunch of tickets, saw a ton of Daniels jerseys fly off the shelves, saw fan engagement and enthusiasm skyrocket as the playoff run went on, etc.

Harris obviously sees that as “what the fans think”, whether we agree or not. Or at the very least, it gives him plausible deniability.

I think it’s very hard to argue with what DieselPwr44 stated. You can rationalize the decision but essentially they either made a business decision, or the league imposed its own desires on the Harris group. Either way, wringing our hands about it now will change nothing.

I have a 10 Elite and I love that thing. It's held up well after all these years, I'll be wearing it to the ATL game.

Exactly. JD had the #4 selling jersey and they are excited. Whoopdeedoo!

RG3 had less of a year, didn't win a single playoff game, got injured twice and his was the #1 selling jersey and probably by a huge margin.

I'm not saying go back to Redskins either but Commanders name, and the jersey design, helmet, etc is just straight up garbage.

I did purchase 2 Defenders shirts a couple years ago. They aren't anywhere near as fugly.

I went to a birthday party during last season for the child of a good friend of mine. It was at a 'jump around' style place geared towards kids. I saw 10 or so jerseys representing our home team. 1 was Art Monk (fist bump kid). The rest were Commanders jerseys. 6 of those were the black alternate version.

I have had every apprehension with the name, uniform, jerseys...etc, but I also think the younger generation, the ones that have parents out there spending money on their gear, are happier with it than we all may want to admit. Elementary school level kids are likely eating up the new name / uniform / logo. They're embracing it because they can play with Jayden Daniels on Madden. They can find his football cards. They are latching on the same way we did when we were their age. I'm 40. I watched the Super Bowl in 1991 and was completely obsessed. I didn't keep football cards that weren't of the Redskins players. I refused to use any other team on Super Tecmo Bowl, and I collected a new jersey for my birthday every year growing up. That's what these kids are doing and the brand is Commanders. It's getting embraced in a different way than us who saw the old way. They don't know it, and they're embracing the now....
