Random Thoughts

You know what's weird? Weather apps will show a 70% chance of rain. But when you look at the hourly predictions, there is never an hour with more than a 25-30% chance of rain.

Imma write my congressman.

As mentioned by RW, things do change rapidly, and with it, the hourly. Then it takes them a while to update the daily. I've noticed this. The daily tends to trail behind the hourly.

Also, I think it helps to think of the hourly forecast as a coin flip. For example, if there is a 50% chance of rain every hour for five hours, that's five coin flips, and chances are pretty good that one of them is going to hit. Hence, the daily will show something like 90%. At least it should. But I don't think these meteorologists have quite figured out the math yet.

So a while back, I posted this. And five weeks later, it's had 88 reads, and not a single person has ventured a guess. Come on, man! It's not that hard!

Can you be a true Redskins fan without knowing about strawberry milkshakes and a mop?

I never met my paternal grandparents, they died in a fire before I was born, but today when cleaning my parents basement I came upon photos and some old artifacts like my grandmother's high school diploma and my grandfather's driver's and chafeur's licence. Dad is of the stoic generation and never really talked about him. These are some of my first glimpses of these people.

I have long said the National weather service has a wheel of fortune style wheel in the basement and that’s what they use to predict the weather.

They get predicting the last pretty accurate.

The future? Eh. I think they’re just guessing.

I get it’s a hard job.

Neither do I without googling. Now if he’d said vanilla ice cream…

Well I guess I'm 0-2 because I don't know about any strawberry milkshake and mop and how it relates to the Redskins.
For shame, sir!

I guess you weren't around ES back then. Long ago, a pretty established poster on ES went on an extended rant. The OP ran at least the length of a page. In this tirade, they complained how their partner was deficient, horrible, and possibly the worst person ever born on the planet Earth. The cause of his agitation? You may have guessed it, but when she returned from shopping she forgot to pick up the strawberry milk and mop that he wanted.

This post became a thing of legend and grew to be its own thing. Whenever a poster grew completely unreasonable (and somewhat unhinged) people would ask them if they needed their strawberry milk or a mop. The thread itself wound up being a pretty long one as I recall and the poster dug in their heels a long time and kept doubling down about how they weren't overreacting and how "it wasn't funny." It truly became a subject of ES legend (or so I thought.)

Anyway, all the nostalgia for the history of ES made me think of it. There were some great trainwreck threads over the years.

I'm sure you were there back when you went by a different name.

I'm surprised that even came up with a search.
I figured once that forum went down, so did all traces of its threads and archives.
And it didn't come up for me

I didn’t search it. Probably took place after I left that site.

Thanks for this. I registered on ES long before I became a regular poster. Did the poster stick around or was he shamed into obscurity?

What is it today with "partner" instead of girlfriend? I notice it a lot these days. I always thought partner was used by a gay person to describe their other half and boyfriend was for the straight crowd. I guess the lines have blurred now. No big deal, I find it interesting.

Honestly, I used partner in this case because I couldn't remember if it was his girlfriend or wife.

I think he stuck around for a while. I can't remember who it was. Surprised that Boone doesn't remember it, but looks like Mark may. I'm pretty positive I didn't dream it up lol

Wizards are so unlucky. Dropped to the worst possible draft pick they could get. Feel bad for this perenial loser.

I haven’t followed the Wizards since they were the Bullets, but I hear things every now and again and know they still suck. Is there a worse franchise in the NBA? I know people in NC say the Hornets are bad. But the teams I remember sucking as a kid seem to have had recent success. So their cities have something to hang their hat on. Unlike the fans in DC who have to cling to a championship from 47 years ago with only a handful of playoff series wins since then.

Waiting for AC/DC...the opening band, The Pretty Reckless, kicked ass...
