We are moving our personal circus (including dog) across the pond on Tuesday. The Helsinki airport is having union-related work stoppages and canceled 1,200 flights yesterday and expects more on Monday. Tuesday looks clear at this point but who knows. I really hope we don’t have to stay in New York. 🤞

You know what's weird? Weather apps will show a 70% chance of rain. But when you look at the hourly predictions, there is never an hour with more than a 25-30% chance of rain.

One of the bonuses of putting in a rhododendron first before the fun was I was able to secure a number or earthworms. Let me explain. On the bike ride I am about to take I go past a stream full of small trout. I like to go under the bridge where they hang and feed them worms because I will always be 18 at heart. This year the pickings have been slim as it's been so dry but I was able to secure 7-8 the other day and I've got plenty more than that today.

They are really skittish when I move so it's a challenge, several worms just drop to the bottom and disappear. Last time they seemed to relax a bit as the worms fell. My goal is to train them to be my friend.

First off, best of luck. Question, do the dogs have to be quarantined once you get to the final destination ? We had considered moving to London many years ago, and were told our dog would have to be quarantined for 6 months. I never looked into it as we quickly decided not to do the relocation.

No, he just needs to have a vet administer a tapeworm treatment (pill) within 5 days of arrival. We secured an EU Pet Passport to get around the other entry requirements, like the nightmare of obtaining a USDA travel document.

Sitting oceanfront on an overnight getaway at the beach. It was raining all the way down, for the first time ever I didn't pack my bike. I kept wondereing wtf we were doing, we'll check in and probably take a nap, then out to dinner before getting up and leaving.

But fuck it, we didn't get to travel as much as usual last night. After dinner we broke the rule and took Niiki on the beach (I thought it was allowed until Memorial Day when I booked). There was nobody there and after running back up to the room to get a poop bag she went into the ocean and took her dump there. Cool, instant flush.

Things look good. The airline (Finnair) was to update passengers via SMS on Saturday about any disruptions and I received none. The local paper reported today that long-haul flights were not affected. Still 🤞

This will be the 4th year we’ve done this. We spend 6-7 months here in Florida and the remainder in Helsinki. We are intercontinental snow birds.

I have only met one Finnish person, that I know of and recall, and after that experience, I can believe that claim

I have only met one Finnish person, that I know of and recall, and after that experience, I can believe that claim

Finland has been rated as the happiest country for, I believe, 3 years running. Finns are amused (if one could tell) and have no idea where that comes from. Friendliest? Not a chance. Can’t hold a candle to southerners in the USA.

Finns are mostly stoic and introverted. Here is an accurate representation-

True about Southerners too. Georgia, as just one of a few examples, just blew me away, time after time, how unrealistically friendly they were/are

Earlier today my toddler daughters were ganging up on me while I was laying on the floor playing with their infant brother.

Play play play run run run...I was fair game, I'm still the living jungle gym.

Now that the draft is over it's always a dead time on team boards. But man I'm retired and have all the time in the world, what exactly will I do now? Talk to my wife? Take up quilting? I'm hoping this thread will become more active for entertainment purposes but it does not have a lot of activity.

IMO, there is never a real dead time with fans.
There is always something.
For example, right now, is the time to debate whether Gabe Taylor will, and should, make the team

I can't believe I missed @markthehammer's post showing the fox. A few months ago we had something by our shed, initially I thought it was a fox but it was too tall, and pretty skinny It could only be a coyote, possibly living under our shed.

But we hadn't seen it in a while until the other day when she appeared with her 4 puppies. Good God they were cute. But now we have a family of coyotes living in our yard with a dog and cats. After many calls I learned nobody from DNR or the state will help us, we were on our own and livetraps are ineffective. I tried an ammonia soaked rag per a suggestion to get them to leave, that evening when the dog wanted to go out I put a spotlight on the shed and was met with 4-5 sets of eyes.

But what I did learn is they are no threat to a German Shepherd, even a mother protecting her litter knows here limitations. They will eventually move on and I see no reason to harrass them, our outdoor cats are on the other side of the house so not at risk so we will be friends with the Coyote family. I only wish I could get under there and remove the ammonia soaked rags.
