Why Duroc Is Referred To As 'The Black Angus Of Pork'

Similarly to how different cow breeds produce different qualities of beef, certain pig breeds produce better quality pork than others. Duroc is a common breed of pig that produces high quality, super tasty pork that one might compare to the quality of Black Angus beef. Black Angus is considered a prime choice of beef known for its high level of marbling or intramuscular fat that produces juicy, flavorful meat. Similarly, Duroc pork has significant marbling that delivers tender, juicy, incredibly delicious pork.

I lived on hot pockets from age 11-15.

My tastes have changed over the years. But every now and then, I crave a hot pocket. And Ramen soup which you could buy for $.10 when I was in college.

I do believe a hot pocket reduces your life expectancy by about 36 hours per pocket though. So you have to be a little careful about eating them.

You could always compromise and eat a frozen Swanson chicken pot pie....they only reduce your life expectancy by about 8 hours........

Mark The Homer I bought one of those skirt steaks from Lidl. They come in cryovac packages and this was a little over 1 lb. I marinated it overnight with a mixture of an adobo wet rub paste that I picked up at one of the local Latin markets and some OJ. I did a quick sear on a screeching hot cast iron skillet. Cut it across the grain, diced it up and served it over Nachos last night. It was very tender and flavorful. I forget if it was inside, or outside, but I'm pretty sure that it Lidl only sells the less desirable of the cut. Didn't matter....it was very good.
 
Nice job. I did one a couple weeks ago. Didn't marinate it, just cooked it the normal cowboy way. I didn't think it was quite as good as the last one I did from Lidl - last year or year before. It was relatively tender, just not quite up to par from what I got last time. Also they didn't show the USDA grade which means it was probably select. And yeah I am sure it is the inside they sell, since they don't tell you which it is.

We have a Lidl. But I never been there.
Is it like an Aldi's ?

When I get a pound from my favorite local place, I request 60/40 to the crusty outside.

I'll be at Road Atlanta for the motorcycles on Saturday. Super excited. My former boss (I worked for 10 years in his fabulous Mexican place) is gonna be there with his wife (who I love like a sister, she works for Mission Tortillas). It's gonna be a grillin' day. I'll post if I can.

They're similar - as I recall reading, they are both German owned businesses and very efficient which is how they can sell items cheaper than other stores. Another cool thing is they have items that the normal grocery stores don't stock. For example, I can get Amoroso rolls at Aldi's and they're in stock consistently, but the other stores around here don't normally carry it. And apparently, one can get Wahl beef patties at Lidl, although they were out when I tried to get them there. I'm always amazed by grocery bill total - it's always less than I think it will be. So, either store is worth checking out, IMO. Good luck

Thanks. The one here is kind of 'out of the way'. So I just wanted to make sure it was worth the trip. So that was pretty helpful
 
I'm going to take some of the flank steak I made last night and do a beef pot pie for dinner tonight with carrots, onion, and potatoes.... Super simple to make, will probably just use store-bought pie crust because it's so much simpler than making one.

I made an 6 ingredient, 3 dish meal for the kids while my wife was out of town. Had to be quick and easy because I was cooking and juggling a 6 and 11 year old. I did a cauliflower mash, corn on the cob, and a thin cut new York strip.

The other three ingredients were butter, cream cheese and salt.

1. Cauliflower mash. Just steamed the cauliflower, then put it in a food processor with cream cheese and salt. It was really good.

2. Corn on the cob. Just boiled and served with butter.

3. Steak. I did it in a cast iron pan. 2 minutes per side with butter. Salted the steak beforehand. Cooked to medium. Thin cut steak is hard to get medium rare and the 11 year old prefers medium.

Done. Total prep time was probably 30 minutes.

6 ingredients. I could have added pepper. But the kids don’t love pepper.
