Just watched the latest episode of Commanders Log, season 4 episode 3. Draft heavy episode, no individual player focus but some behind the scenes type stuff. Also free agents brought in. Well put together 16 mins for anyone jonesing for some Commanders talk. Youtube.

If the idea really is to win now, though, I'm a little concerned. Do you try to "win now" with Brian Robinson as your starting RB? You've convinced me that this (starting RB) is an area of real concern. A quick aside, but if we are really trying to win now, who do we have at playmaker other that Terry? I'm just wondering. I get beefing up the D, especially the line, but we need playmakers and....I'm just not seeing them.
I would add WR to that list. Ive heard Keim say the team are looking at receivers - he dropped the name of Tai Felton as a mid round pick in his last pod and he doesn’t drop names he’s not heard around the building. Did say though he wasn't sure they had the picks to get a WR in the mid rounds unless they trade back.
We won now with Robinson as the starting RB last season …
I think the case could be made that we won despite Robinson, not because of him. Imagine if we had someone besides JD as a competent runner.
He’s a JAG. He had some good games though before he picked up the injury, was never the same player the rest of the season. But the point still holds we went to the NFC Championship game with running back by committee.
I’d love to add a quality back. But I’d put Edge, CB, OL and WR as positional needs ahead of RB.
I think the best quality player at 128 will be a running back, I am going to be real interested in who they sign as undrafted free agents

Always a challenge in finding a trading partner in the draft. Yes, the QB situation will be our best shot. There will be the enticement of a player possibly falling to #29 also or even moving our #61 for a couple of 3rd rounders (i.e., SF with #75 and 100) or a 3rd and 4th (i.e., KC with #66 and #133), for example.

I've only seen the youtube highlights on Jacory Croskey-Merritt but he seems to see the holes and can get to them quick.

Brian Robinson was pretty good early in the season. He could not get into a groove at the end of the season. Logan Paulson on the TakeCommand podcast answered a question about that during the late season about Robinson's decline in quality of play. He said its a bit of a few things. Early in the season the run blocking was good and Robinson was trusting the run blocking which is how everything is supposed to work. When he was struggling at the end of the season the run blocking was inconsistent and Robinson didn't always trust it. So on some busted runs it was on the run blocking. On other busted runs the run was blocked for four yards, but Robinson didn't trust it and wasn't patient enough and got 2 yards when the run blocking was good for 4 yards. But early in the season was the run blocking was consistently good and he was trusting it he was good. He would get what the play was blocked for and due to his physical style get a yard or two extra a lot of times. Our offense was really rolling.
To me Brian Robinson is a better running back than Chris Rodriguez. But by the end of last year, it wasn't obvious because Robinson had trust issues that Rodriguez did not and thus Rodriguez was more likely to get what the play was blocked for. Rodriguez is pretty slow, slower and less agile than Robinson (and Robinson is not fast or particularly agile), but Rodriguez like Robinson is a physical runner (maybe even more physical than Robinson) so him just trusting the run blocking made him somewhat effective.
Its easy say spend a second rounder on somebody with more juice. And I find that tempting. But we have bigger needs in my opinion. Even if you get a guy with more juice if the run blocking is inconsistent, it would not surprise me if they develop some of the same trust issues that Robinson had at the end of last year. Its analogous to watching a rookie QB develop bad habits if the run blocking is bad.
They could be onto something with RBs trust because he did run with confidence unless there was a big hole in front of him. He was also going down a lot on first hits and not braking tackles. Earlier in his career he did a little more of that but still not a lot. Rodriguez would try to run through defenders if they got in front of him creating some broken tackles making him more effective. Neither of them are anything great.
Could we win with our current RB room? Sometimes. We could with our current Dl or OL or WR room too. We do however need someone who can find seams, get through them, not go down on the first hit, fall forward for more yards when going down, is good in the pass game and can pass protection. If they can take it to the house, thats a big plus.

I think 4+ go and that's in the top 12 or so. That's a run.
Watched some Jahdae Barron last night, wow, the instincts this dude has. He is all over the ball and feisty as heck as far as disrupting plays. Makes some great picks including one that was called back. Baller.
Starks for example, nothing jumped out in the 2 games i watched but I need to watch more. But Barron just jumps off the page.

I don't think there is anyway Barron is near 29 SIP. He's CB1 for me. Will Johnson refusing to run a 40 cements that. Could go as high at 12 to Dallas, but won't get past the Rams at 26. He'll be long gone IMO and will be the first DB drafted in the draft.
Yeah I did mention that I think somewhere in a different post, Though as you mentioned he said it in this context, he thinks in a trade back, if they pick up more picks and flat out said he's not sure they will have the luxury to do it as for taking him in that range -- suggesting if they trade down and pick another pick. Feels like Keim is saying WR is the next position after the others i mentioned but isn't a given.
Also he left room that BPA could end up anything.
