I'd counter with the risk is maybe even higher on draft picks, because they've never played in the NFL before at all.
I'd imagine the 1 year prove-it guys have a higher hit rate than a mid to late draft pick.
Ideally, you want to do both. Draft guys and develop them, sign the guys who are core guys, and replace guys who are not. And fill in the roster with FAs.
We just had more guys to fill in than we should have because we had (I think I did the math) 7 players we drafted on the roster left from the Allen/Ron years. Where they should have been the core, they were just gone.

Agreed. But by the time MOST (Terry = exception) 3rd round rookies are contributing on game day in meaningful way, you're a couple years down the road.
I get the idea of drafting now so we have those guys. I really think the 9 players from last year's draft + 2 UDFAs influenced the thinking of Peters. Also, the fact he didn't see any other way of getting blue chip guys factors in. He needed to do both. I think he's been creative in the way he's done it. If he had just hoarded draft picks, we might have had a good middle of the roster by the time JD5 needs to be paid, but lacked top end talent.
Gotta do both.
If the roster could get to a better blend with players on rookies contracts, it would lessen off season uncertainty add to continuity and a much easier way to build the roster and organization like what Philly currently has. Sadly they are the best run organization on a whole at this time.

And they've been the best run organization for a long time, which provides them with a huge advantage. We are in year 2 of being well run. Howie has been able to draft guys, see them develop, trade assets, get more guys, build a good team, shed pieces, re-stock, etc. etc. etc. for so long it's become a machine.
Give it time. Peters has to prime the pump before he can really get going.
I totally agree with this. This discussion has really arisen over the idea of giving up at least our second round draft pick and cap space for a really good player at a major position. In a normal situation it sounds like a no brainer. However we already made the decision to move in this direction on key players costing the team cap space and numerous draft picks. That 2nd round pick is this teams best opportunity for AP and DQ to create a few more opportunities to bring in "Commander" players on rookies contracts.
IMO, we need that infusion to better create what Philly has. All of this years one year contracts is a jump start that allows us to do so.

According to hogs Haven we’ve met with him now on three separate occasions. Senior bowl, team pro day then listed after that is private workout. I definitely see the correlation that you posted about with the combine interview being extremely key to their possible selections just wondering if three total meetings holds any weight
They go to almost every team pro day. Not a big deal. Senior Bowl according to Jim Nagy who runs it, he says every year ignore all posts about teams meeting with players at the Senior Bowl because every team meets with every player. I'd put more stock in the private workout at U'M if I didn't read the day before that they had another private workout with another player there. So if you are there already, why not? I'd put money they have other workouts with other players there, too.
Is it meaningless? Probably not. There is clearly at least a little interest. But if I recall it has been Hogs Haven who keep saying multiple meetings ANY mullitiple meetings means a lot. However, I believe it was Keim. If not him it was Standig who said this off season its not about any two meetings -- its about the formal combine meeting and then another. But the combine was the common thread. I'll trust Keim over name that random fan blog on the topic. Granted that was last year, maybe this year its entirely different. But if last year was prologue, the formal combine meetings are the be all and end all.

I got to rewatch Restrepo. I was a big McConkey guy last year and noticed some making comps to him so I watched him within that framework and after watching I felt no way. Among other things, he didn't have McConkey's explosion. And I said that here way before his slow 40 time. If he's genuinely a 4.8 and change WR, he's out for me. If I am doing a private workout, I'd have him run again. I can deal with maybe a low 4.7. But 4.8 and change is slow for a TE nevermind a WR.
But I'll watch him soon from the framework of he's likely now am guessing a 4th-5th round receiver. In that range i like Lane for his speed-explosion. I noticed Restrepo wasn't even mentioned in the McGinn scout article -- so at least among the scouts he talked to Restrepo wasn't in their list of top 17 WRs in this draft. So if that has some legs am guessing PFF and those who still have Restrepo going early will end up wrong. But will see.
Per my previous post, as with a private workout, hopefully it would have him run again. While I am not hung up on speed in some spots, 4.83, plus a really high 10, 1.66 is a bridge too far for me for any WR let alone one who is just 5'10.
Arguably, running in the 4'6s is slow for any WR sans big possession type WRs which isn't what Restrepo is. But if he ran in a private workout for me in the 4'6's it would put him back on the table if it were me.
As for the meetings, sorry for being a pain in the ass on the subject. i helped even start the two meetings, any meeting is meaningful drill. But then when one of the beat guys went through the actual meetings and said its not any two but the combine has to be one of the two, I shifted to that.
Having said that, we clearly don't know all of their combine meetings. So maybe for all we know they met with him?

I agree wholeheartedly. I also agree with Hail Raiser . It's a delicate balance between FAs and the draft.

Speaking of Mcaconkey, these PFF guys really like Jaylin Noel and liken him a little bit to McConkey.
I’d be thrilled with Noel or Higgins.
With regards to Kyle Williams, one of the draft talking heads was worried that he basically didn’t break out until his 5th year. I remember you being big on Terry in that draft despite breakout age. I thought Terry was gonna be James Thrash. A high character special teams and WR3/4 kind of guy. What are your thoughts on Williams?

You’ve got a lot of different kinds of guys there! NT’s. Penetrating 3 tech’s. Mason Graham is probably going top 10.
I referenced Grant because I think he ma we’ll fall to 29, has the size to anchor and help compensate for Newton being a smaller penetrator, and because Grant, despite his size, still has the athleticism to rush the passer.
Kyle Williams, interesting projection. Reminds me a little of Felton watching him.
He almost always played against off coverage, so you can't really see how good he would be with releases versus physical CBs. He has so little experience with it, that I gather that will be learning curve in the NFL or you got to start him in the slot where he doesn't have deal with it.
Like Felton he's fast and I trust him more with taking short passes for big gains, WCO than any other thing. Both he and Felton have inconsistent hands, especially when dealing with contact and down the field. Not bad hands but some drops.
They pushed the deep ball more though with Kyle than Maryland did with Felton. He has some potential as a deep ball threat but to me its a bit of a wildcard because he won't be playing against teams like SD State and New Mexico in the NFL where he has all that cushion without interference from a defender.
Williams' super power IMO is he's not just fast but he plays fast. He accelerates quickly. They use him on that front in the backfield and with quick slants. Sort of like the Deebo thing but he's not physical like Deebo but he can do YAC because of his speed. Felton, too. Same brand. Williams has more wiggle in open field than Felton. I like what I saw more from Williams over Felton but Williams had less trash at his feet and had easier competition so he was set up easier for success.
I wouldn't pound the table for Kyle Williams to the extent where I'd take him as early as Chris Simms and some others have pushed. But in the third round range, why not?
Williams and Felton would fit that Dyami type role. Dyami is billed by the local media as a speedster. But he's really not that big of a burner. Felton and Williams have real speed. Kyle Williams looks more explosive with the ball in his hands than Felton. I suspect Kyle will be the better deep threat than Felton. I have doubts either one will be killer with the deep ball in the NFL even though they have the speed to do it, I'd bet more on Kyle of the two of them on this. So that's why Dyami runs through me mind. The 2024 version of Dyami who was a YAC threat on the first level and on occasion would burn you with the deep ball.
I am nowhere near the level that you guys are. I did watch a lot of Miami games this year. Restrepo may not be a burner but the dude gets open, has really good hands and definitely gets the YAC. He was making plays every game.

I watched those same PFF guys talk RBs, Entertaining but long video. Heck, there has been some debate about Sampson and Skattebo on this thread. On that video you got some of the biggest fans of both players. They also explained better than I did why Kaleb Johnson is so good in the open field.
As far as Noel. i guess he reminds me some of McConkey. They sort of have a similar style of catching the ball in stride and when they catch the ball in stride on the 2nd level they run in a similar way. They both are clutch and ballers and better athletes than anyone knew until the combine.
I think McConkey is more physical with the ball in his hands. Noel the better deep threat.
Yeah Noel would be a good get especially if he falls to the third as some project. I think he's a safer pick than Kyle Williams. Williams though with more upside. But if you forced me to take one or the other, I'd take Noel.

Logan and Craig had Jeremy Greene on Take Command. Best draft guest ever - that guy is hilarious, has watched 540 draft prospects and talks with people who work in the league. He joked that we have the same chance of getting Ezeiraku as Abdul Carter, meaning he thinks Ez goes a lot higher than where the mocks have him and I totally buy it. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes before Green and Pearce given the character concerns.
