The 2025 Draft Thread

Most of the prominent mock drafters are. McShay, Kiper, Yates, etc all say they talk to them. I didn't realize until recently how well Yates knows Peters. But none of that is a knock against, Greene, he was wildly entertaining. Great segment. And I am not ruling out he's right. But there is enough mixed info where I don't consider it slam dunk like he does that he won't be there at 29. At a minimum, Mcginn's scouts are usually not wildly off as to what happens on draft day.

McGinn's scouts have often beat the mock drafters, DJ included. I don't recall DJ cited as having one of the most accurate drafts but maybe i missed it. I know Standig has been fairly good in some years.

this dude who does them for Warren Sharp claims he has has the most dead on mock drafts.

pretty sure I would be devastated if this is how the draft plays out in round 1. I would love to know what the compensation we would get from the Pats for a move back like that while James Pearce and Matthew Golden are still on the board. And the fact that Pearce would end up with the Eagles and be a pain in our ass twice a year for the next decade… I shudder to think.

Boy, if you told of us a few weeks ago that Pearce would be there at 29 and we passed...there would one giant uproar.

I have Eze penciled in at 29 for months if they stick at 29. I'd be bummed if he isn't there, at least for them to decide whether to trade back or take him. More and more I am seeing gone in the late teens to mid twenties.

I'd imagine in this scenario, Kliff would have been salivating for Golden

EDIT_Haha RexTomb for hitting the same Pearce and Golden type comments as we posted at the same time!

I wish I can get more video of Felton. From what I've seen and studying his stats, he screams to me Dyami Brown, the better 2024 version of him. A dude who you'd expect based on his measurables to threaten defenses on the third level but rarely does but does on occasion. I know his profile with some is he's a deep ball threat --speedy receiver. But watching him some and looking at his stats, he's more about the first level stuff. Sort of a poor man's version of Xavier Worthy. He's not a big time contested catch guy either. He has his share of drops and has one of the lowest average depth receptions in this class.

But I do like him on those first level passes and YAC and he looks to be a good punt returner. And maybe he can develop as a deep threat?

Kyle Williams IMO is a more dynamic version of Felton on the first level and also has IMO more potential as a deep threat. Lane is a slot. Also like Felton, first level, YAC guy. Also good punt returner. Felton looks more dangerous with the ball in his hands than Felton. But I like Felton's size better and that he can play Z.
If they made trade backs and/or took other positions first and we came away with any one of these players, they would add another welcomed dimension to this offense. I do place a higher value than some on players that contribute on STs.

I will still uproar DWinzit. I'll give an uproar for you. How dare they not take James Pearce Jr.!

On that mock, FIRSTLY, I don't think the Steelers like Dart, so I kinda doubt they take him. How that fiddles with the rest of the board, I dunno.

Beyond that tho, at 29 you've still got:
- Matthew Golden
- Emeka Egbuka
- James Pearce Jr.
available, and any of those 3 dudes is a huge difference maker.

So I do get the trade down, BUT I also would be concerned about it because 3 dudes left we really like is too few to drop back 9 spots, and we see that with 2 of them dropping off the board by 32.

I guess it depends on the haul because I strongly suspect you're dropping the skill level down a half or full tier going from 29 to 38, so I'd expect like, a 3rd this year (69, nice) and 3rd next year to make it worth our while.

My gut is that teams are going to start crushing on Higgins (like me) and one of them will take him at the end of the 1st round

If Pearce is there, you have to take him. I know the off field stuff could be an issue, but Jaylen Carter dropped and the Eagles have a cornerstone piece for the next decade.

Carter's baggage if I recall was doing knucklehead stuff off the field, like the car racing on the streets, etc.

Pearce, if its correct, is about him not being a good teammate, hard worker or coachable.

So i think its different forms of baggage.

And Peters and Quinn have been preaching how important the opposite of those items are to them and this team. I really see them passing. If so I just ope he stays out of the NFCE

That’s fair. My guess is, given his background working for teams and being at the NFL’s media owned properties, DJ just might be the most plugged in of this group. It’s telling that other draft gurus like the Stock Exchange guys look at DJ’s mock specifically for clues.

I understand your perspective on McGinn’s ranking and your take makes sense at a high level. Like anything, there are probably cases where they may just end up wildly off vs the ultimate outcome. My guess is Ez may end up being one of those cases.

It goes back to something Logan always mentions on his podcasts, which is that the philosophy of many GMs in the first round is risk mitigation. Given the character issues Pearce and Green possess and the lack of production of Williams, Stewart and Scourton, there is a strong argument to make that Ez has the highest floor of the EDGE group after Carter

Trade back no matter who is on the board is my number one.

I doubt the Eagles touch Pearce. Them taking guys with character flaws is a fable. If Pearce doesn't like football, they won't take him. They also have Nolan Smith. I know they resigned Baun, but they like doubling down on positions and with Jalon Walker sitting there, that's who I'd bet on. They love those Bulldogs. I could see them take Jihaad there too, which would really suck, too.

As to Ezeiruaku, if I were a betting man, I'd guess he goes before 29. Part of it is for reasons you mentioned, if Pearce and Green fall, makes sense that it will elevate Ezeiruaku.

Just being as much of a mock draft hound as anyone here, I find all these guys someone hit and miss including DJ. i do like reading their takes about players. Never found DJ to be the most plugged in as to gossip. It's usually the national beat guys like Breer, Schrager from my observation who seem to have the most in with reporters. DJ, Kiper, McShay, Brugler, the PFF guys, etc all seem to reference each other at different times and mention they've spoken to different GMs, etc. Maybe DJ above all, is the most plugged in, but I personally never got that impression. But who knows?

My take about DJ over the years, he's one of the better ones at touting some players who come off as off beat picks and he will push they are going in the first. Good example was Jamin Davis, he loved him, and was pushing him to go in the first when others were saying 2nd round.

I'd guess Ezeiruaku goes somewhere from 15-25. But I'll just say McGinn's scouts, dudes who work for NFL teams, tend to be as right as DJ when they have a take that comes off off beat to mock drafters as to what happens on draft day. So my point is simply while I LOVED Greene's segment. It was great. And i don't discount him as a source. But his point that there is zero chance he will be there at 29 while some mocks and McGinn's scouts have him going in the late first or 2nd. I personally don't buy there is no chance.

Yeah likewise i am in the camp of trade down no matter what.

I love Ezeiruaku, Golden, Hampton and if they fall to 29, I'd still want to trade back.

The 3rd-4th round range is very intriguing to me -- and this draft seems tailored towards our needs so I want more picks.

This is usually a sweet spot for most drafts to me but for this one in particular, it is especially a target rich environment. A team with as many as these picks they can get can go a very long ways to building a strong foundation or just augment an already solid roster.

Here's the thing tho, if Peters thought 65-138 was a target rich environment, would he have traded away those picks?

Peters was perfectly willing to move picks for players this year, with the exception of 29 and 61. Usually drafts have some # of impact players, and then after that it's developmental guys with higher miss chances. Last year was stated as being a year with a ton of impact guys bc of COVID extended eligibility, and the initial reactions to this year is that it was worse. Those opinions may have changed somewhat, but we definitely still moved a lot of picks.

It's hard to tell whether Peters was moving picks because "draft class sucks after the 2nd" or "draft class is fine but we need immediate high level players for Jayden's window."

It's probably a little more the latter than the former, because if he felt the class truly sucked he wouldn't have asked for the 4th back and tried to lessen the cost next year (like maybe 3rd this year 3rd next year instead of 3rd this year + 2nd and 4th next year for 4th this year), but he may also view a lot of guys after the 2nd as sorta just JAGs.

We got 3 blue chippers with the picks we traded and now we can recoup those mid round picks with 29, so maybe we're not signing a dozen one year cast offs the following season.

I want to see a trade back but not the one suggested in that Mock Draft. 29 for 38, 106 and 239 (238 really) is not equitable on the trade charts. 38, 106 and 144 is almost even.

Between our roster construction - lots of 1 year players and missing a lot of the homegrown talent due to poor drafting under Rivera - and us only having 5 picks, we might be viewed as having less leverage in terms of trading picks.

It also seems to me that teams looking to trade up are more often looking for pick swaps, rather than giving up multiple picks, especially for a non-qb.

I’m not defending the predicted trade, but just overall, I wouldn’t be surprised if we make a trade that’s maybe a bit lopsided in terms of value. Not that I think AP is desperate to move back and will accept a bad deal.

Regardless of the fairness of a trade back, I really like AP having more picks - not just for more bites at the apple, but also because it allows for more flexibility in terms of maneuvering throughout the rest of the draft.
