The 2025 Free Agency Thread

I think those guys are 4’s or 5’s not 3’s. If Terry or Deebo is out it will be Noah Brown or KJ, maybe even McCaffery who would be likelier to come in imho.
Perhaps I should have been more verbose. If Terry is out, Noah and Luke would obviously have an expanded need, but so would Gallup as a true downfield threat. Whereas Crowder would best be suited as filling in for an injured Deebo. So in the Crowder vs Gallup debate, I think some of the answer lies in how they would fill a need as a backup, and how important that need is. In the scenario of picking up some of Terrys snaps Gallup wins.

If Terry was out for a game or two, who would you need the most to fill that gap? I'm thinking Gallup over Crowder
Yeah this is how I see it as well. I'm fine with the WR room as well but if Terry goes down they really needed a vertical threat so I like the Gallup signing. But they need an explosive RB far more and I'd be shocked if one is not drafted by Day 2. Sorry for the draft comment Boone but as mentioned FA and the draft kind of go hand in hand.

Totally different skillsets, but I think the same position on the depth-chart. So, it is literally a "which of these adds more" deal at that spot on the depth chart. When you talk about WR1/WR2, you are talking about specific skills (which one excels in what exact skills varies, but usually the combination nets you speed and on at least one excellent speed, great hands usually on both, great route running usually for both). When you are talking about WR3, you are generally talking about a chain mover, someone who is I think more typically a must-have good hands type at least. When you get to WR4/5, you take what you can get in the skillsets. It really depends. A lot of times here, as usual down the depth chart, you want ST contributions. So, we got some really good ST contributions from Crowder *when healthy.*

There is one other lens that I analyze bias and signings with, and this was particularly troubling with Rivera: do other teams actually want this player, or are you the only one? This may not be that bad of a thing sometimes (fit is better, or you just know something about the player), and sometimes it can be absolutely horrible (pure bias/friendship, blinding). This was the case in the FO *a lot* with our team in the past. As for AP/DQ, I have not seen this problem in my mind much at all.

I am not overly concerned with Gallup at all, for all of the reasons you have said, and I will definitely give the benefit of the doubt, but professional orgs who are bent on winning I think tend do a lot fewer favors to buddies than others. So, I just hope he showed something legit at the workout, and I certainly accept it on faith right now.

OK - there is some personal animus for me against having so many former Cowboys; MY bar is higher and my bias is against it! I hate reading articles like this: https://athlonsports.com/nfl/dallas...-rival-commanders-in-signing-dan-quinn/roster

Yeah, literally a kick the tires/Doing you a favor for old times kind of contract.

(It is crazy to me that bare bones vet minimum is over a million dollars)

If he were, I’d feel better about the D as a whole, but also I’d feel a lot better about potentially foregoing drafting a DE early.

I think I’d still take a DE early but it’s tough to count on a rookie DE taken outside the top 20 as an impact player year 1. Having a guy who generated 60 pressures last year just provides a lot of comfort to your point.

I know his run D is bad but, fine, use him in a rotational role then.

I know the guy has moved around a lot in his career but I don’t think it’s character issues. The only time he was on a non winning team was his rookie year. I don’t think a bunch of winning orgs would have him otherwise

I must say, since this IS the Free Agency thread, I’ve been a message board free agent for months now with the ending of ES, but I’ve signed with BGO and it feels great to be with my new team with lots of my old compadres…

the culture is damn good here and I feel as though my messaging career can fully develop into multiple probowls… but I’ve got lots of work to do to reach my ceiling, but my floor is high, and intend to train my dad bod as I look forward to a long term deal…

Yeah, I wouldn’t avoid drafting a DE early if we added Smith, just would feel a bit less pressure to do so.

Me too, I was hoping for a flight out on Harris’ jet, but an Uber to the bus station was all I got from AP…

Giants had Rodgers and Adams in New York, unemployed, and couldn't get either of them.

They wouldn't of even had to move, same damn stadium, couldn't get it done.

Womp womp.

How did the giants get Winston at 4 per and we're paying mariota 8?

Am I missing something, statistically speaking Winston is better in almost every category.

I know stats aren't everything but something seems off with Winston at 4 and mariota at 8.
